Pilot Ejection Table - For those who want some risk in their game!

Therefore I think that this table, or my program, whichever you choose to use, is about the best solution. Now if they wanted to incorporate this as part of a conditional Iron Man mode, that would be fine, but dead is dead just wouldn't work; most people would not play in that mode. And if they change it where that was the only mode there was, they would lose most of their players.

Don't underestimate Iron Man fanatics ;) It would be instantly popular, I assure you. Sure, MOST people wouldn't play it... but a lot would. But they'd never change it so that was the only mode. No chance of that.

If there was an Iron Man mode, I suspect it would be like a separate startup setting (ie Open, Iron Man, Group, Solo), and once you died would kick you back to Open (if you wanted to go back into Iron Man you'd have to wipe your save).

Of course this format would turn Iron Man into Elite: Highlander in my opinion, where everyone would be striving to be the last one there. Hell, they could make that into a separate Elite competition ;)

Also, I would add that if your ship is destroyed as the result of a crime you committed your insurance doesn't pay out (on a 10-20 you take the sidewinder).

I've taken that idea and added another table (A Pirate's Life For Me?) which increases the "loophole" window based on how much the bounty on your head is. This would certainly add to the risk of those who want to become notorious.

I'll be happy to change this if I can find out what the range of bounties on most pirates tends to be (not the outliers on the Top 5 list, but the general range)

Hey, Mossfoot, I was just checking the front page and the link that points to my program is invalid. The link in the text is valid; if you copy it and paste it into a browser address bar it will find it, but if you click on the link presented it will take you to the beta2 link which is no longer valid.

Added a Wings table as well. Short version, flying solo now gives a -1, while flying in a wing negates that (or gives a +1 if the wing is full). This is due in part to my feeling that perhaps the chart as it currently stands skews things a bit too strongly in the player's favor.

What do you think?

Please note that since the Pirate table and Wings tables are very new I'm open to feedback on how well you think they'll play out. So feel free to post here with your thoughts.

Asp almost loaded up. Interdicted several times and my canopy was shot out. I eventually got away but not with enough time to dock. Rolled low and died. It was tempting to ignore it and pay the insurance, but getting there was half the fun!

Back to the sidewinder

I salute you, sir! May your next commander live long and get rich :)

Elite Dangerous Ironman Random Generator V1.2 is now out. There is now included a section for Wings. I figured I'd keep the numbering scheme of FD to make it easier. You can download it by clicking on the link below.

Mossfoot: Feel free to include the link above in the original post as the old v1.0 program is no longer available. As always, the archive contains links to the TotalVirus and Jotti malware/virus scan results.

Thanks KellyR. I've updated the link on the front page. Will you also be adding the Criminal factor for expanding the insurance loophole range?

Also, I've changed the wording on a few things to clear things up

- a station crash doesn't just mean on the inside, but on the outside hull as well. The point being that the station pays close attention to anything hitting it.
- the Wings and Criminal sections have been cleaned up a bit and made part of the full table.
- examples at the bottom have been modified to include both Wings and Criminal examples.

Didn't realize inside and outside was the same thing. I'll correct that in the next version. I will also be updating the criminal element as well. Just have to find a place on the interface for it. Might (probably will) have to expand the interface a bit.

So today I was doing a bit of hunting in a RES, and an important VR call came in over the link, in my excitement over said coms, I either forgot to zero my throttle, or my cat bumped it forward while knocking things off of my console (he is VERY good at that!) Long story short, My seat blew me right into a camouflaged airlock on the very asteroid that crushed my ship! Turns out it was a home away from home of a deceased miner, a sort of waystation. I quickly restored the communications and called for a ride back to port.

Since I am a bit of a gamer geek, I Do have a full set of polyhedral dice in my desk drawer, remembering this thread from a short time ago, I decided to give it a try, and unbelievably, I hit a natural 20 with my first roll! on a whim, I rerolled and got a 14 with the modifiers of +2 for RES, and -2 for d rated life support, still allowing me to rebuy, but without the cool story!

Nice! I must say I haven't had a chance to use it lately myself. For one thing I'm a careful and cowardly pilot, so if I'm using it often I'm not playing right ;) Also I'm exploring deep space (coming back from SagA) so there isn't much opportunity for destruction (mind you, I am down to 90% hull and lots of subsystem damage from some heat accidents and accidentally dropping out of Supercruise poorly)

Fantastic work! I was playing with the program and played out a few senarios from a recent close shave in a CZ and I went a bit cold.......death is never far away in Ironman, and I don't want to lose my Python!

a) suddenly taking on that fight that you figure is 50/50 goes from "Eh, why not? I'll risk it" to "Ah, hell naw! Evasive maneuvers, get us out of here!!!"

b) that's when you feel most alive

;)

As much as I love the table and the work that went into it, what would be nice is if FD are working on an Ironman mode and if there was an update as to the progress of that. I do 100% agree with your premise that if the consequences were clear save there would be a lot more "normal" and sane players in the mode.

Oh, I'd love to see an actual Ironman mode as well - but this is a decent enough substitute until such a day in my opinion. :)

I actually don't expect to see an "Iron Man" mode. Were I in Mr. Braben's shoes, I'd be thinking, "Would there really be enough users that would use this mode to make it worth the time and effort (which translates into money) to make this worthwhile?" But the prerequisite to such a mode would have to be at least 1 more commander slot so you could have 1 commander in Iron Man mode and 1 in regular. With only 1 commander slot, I just don't think it would get used much. Oh, sure, some would, but only a small minority.

You are probably right. I mean, I'd still like to see it, but honestly doubt if it will ever happen.

So until then... there's always the Pilot Ejection Table :D

Well, with 1.3 on the way I thought I'd remind people about this, and remember to spread the word any time you see someone complaining about there not being enough risk in the game ;)

Not to mention I had to use it again myself. Sigh... I keep forgetting that the Asp is NOT very maneuverable, and boosted myself into wall pizza on the outside station hull. ANY other ship I have I could have pulled out and avoided a crash. Not the Asp.

Rolled a 9, had a +10 bonus due to the variables, so ejected safely... and no doubt got laughed at by station staff.
