Pilots and Squadrons of the galaxy - we need YOU - 2HOT2MESSY is ON.

Can I make a plea. As with the first hot mess, this is an astonishing opportunity to get a visual on every single station and its location. Can we encourage people to maybe record (screenshot and brief description) any particularly notable ones in some central location? (perhaps this forum thread?) The first hot mess threw up Cortes base, an astounding planetary port perched right on top of a Pomeche like ridge which became something of a mecca for the racing comunity. If there are other amazing locations out there it would be such a shame for them not to be celebrated and catalogued for possible future use.
Another cluster. Three this time. 242km and 345km

A narrow, precipitous ridge here at Chung, going off in two directions from the settlement.

Five weeks in and we are a gnat's gnadger shy of 20,000 muggings. Interestingly, we passed the 10,000 mark for 'new' i.e. previously unknown, unvisited and unloved stations - certainly where no mug has gone before.

Wow. Things in Alpha Centauri are good! Just docked at Hutton Orbital.
Centauri Mega Gin: 42 available
Hutton Mug: 102 available.

Except... it seems that inflation has reared its head. Mug: 3437cr, Gin: 4047cr.
Last trip it was Mug 747cr! Gin: 3613cr.

It's ok though, because it's all FOR THE MUG (and Gin)!

Let the loading commence!

Thanks. I made most of my early credits mining void opals and LTDs in that system, before they were nerfed a couple of years ago.

I've mainly been focussing on "virgin" systems like this. It might be an exceptional one, but it started off at just 35 targets. That has got me wondering just how far off some of the numbers are, and potentially how many ports are being missed. The biggest aid for me has been the new system summary feature, which should give the correct number of dockable ports if fleet carriers are filtered out, you're in a small ship, and there are no active conflict zones.

I have a feeling this exercise is going to take quite a bit longer than anticipated!
Odyssey release patch notes mentioned "400K+" settlements and "8,000+" planet ports.

Are the prizes only available in certain countries?

Also, I have Cognitive Impairment and I'm tired and struggling to understand this page at the moment: https://hot.forthemug.com/hot_mess_2
Can someone please explain to me what it all means? I'm not dumb, my brain's just slow and gets confused easily sometimes. If I were to participate in this, I assume I only take mugs and gin to stations that haven't received them yet? If so, how do I use the page linked above to work out where to take mugs and gin? Can the Hutton Helper (EDMC) do that instead? TIA!

Essentially, you need to take mugs and gin to the ones that haven't been highlighted, AND any you notice that aren't in the lists yet. Some are highlighted in grey, which I believe are unpopulated Horizons settlement that occasionally slip through, and a handful of red ones where the markets are offline. Wars can make Odyssey settlements unavailable for a time and affect the count of dockable ports. I've also come across a couple that don't appear in the list after they've been visited.

Yeah, there's a fair bit of "cognitive load" working out which settlements need to be done still, especially when they're new ones. I actually threw together a script to grab all the pages from the manual range selection and scrape the names and target counts for the 20k+ populated systems and put them in a spreadsheet. The plan was to visit them in order of distance from Sol and check for missing settlements, and I was still finding quite a few in the first 50.

Anyway, I needed to take a break from it for a while. I'm waiting to see what the Stargoids do when they get to the bubble. If they knock out a pile of settlements and stations, it might change this whole thing dramatically! It seems to have slowed down a lot the last few weeks, so maybe I'm not alone there.

If
  • you run the Hutton Helper in EDMC
  • you have registered and logged into the trucker's website
then that website will look like this (Azzie Elbub is my Bubble alt - and yes, I've been neglecting 2HOT2MESSY for a month now):

ggPfNyB.jpg

So, you can see which stations have already been mugged around your position, and which stations are still suffering. The Hutton Helper in EDMC will update this table in near realtime.
In this example, I'd first complete the Odyssey stations in Jin Sho Bao (yes - one of the things I did in that month was to switch to Odyssey on two accounts), then jump to HIP 76256 to mug the stations there. When all those stations show up green, continue to the next system - with an occasional trip back to my carrier to refill; my MDS (mug delivery ship) is somewhat more capable of dealing with the occasional interdiction than my cargo haulers.

Just for completeness: Houtman Vision (grey) in Jin Sho Bao is a base that EDMC took from my journal and added to the table. Unfortunately, that's one of the market-less small Horizons settlements, so no mugging there (unless I drop them from my cargo hatch - but that wouldn't register).

So i went to the Megaship Fisher's Rest in Aldebaran, which has a market, to fight the local populations MODS ... but it does not look as if even stationary megaships are tracked by 2HOT2MESSY using the Hutton Helper.
is that intentionally or due to technical limitations or an oversight?
