Pirating Void Opals

Does anyone know if NPC’s carrying void opals spawn reliably in a particular system/state?

I’ve had incredible success pirating LTDs in ariculture/industrial/anarchy systems and I was wondering if anyone had figured out how/where to find NPCs carrying tons of void opals.

I've checked Elite Couriers tonight but all they have are these Ai relics and Antiques.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has attempted to pirate players for void opals of late - the "dedicated" pvp crowd all seem to spend their time "jousting" - great at blowing an opponent up - very poor at disabling and robbing.
Stopping someone and getting cargo out of them seems the hardest "risk\reward" thing to do in Elite - which is a bit of a shame.

Pirating players for void opals is definitely possible, but harder than it was when the gold rush started. In the beginning there were only a handful of known systems selling them for max value. Now there are dozens and dozens to choose from, so your odds of finding a player inbound to sell opals are greatly diluted.

When it works, it's hugely fun. You don't need very many units to make it worth your while, so you can fairly reliably dispense with intimidation or trying to disable them and just launch hatchbreakers instead.

Never seen a AI ever use deep core mining equipment, they only use laser mining, none of the AI T9s have the Pulse wave scanner or rock blasters or rock breaker realy hard to do VOs with out them.. so no. only LTD only show on ships with refinery no refinery no LTD on the ship...

Megaships transport cargo from system to system in bulk.. you can find LTD on them as well... this is why pirates raid the mega ships.

It's what I've been doing for a while now, almost exclusively. It's great because each unit of cargo is actually valuable.

You can also use the sites that miners use to find where to sell them for high values - and them hang out in those systems waiting for targets.

Was 'Pirated" the other night, diddnt have much at the time but had a situation at home and had to dock for the night, my keyboard was acting up at the time so it took abit for me to drop the load. Forget the name but he was from The Cure and was not being a jerk at all, even said "Hey you dropped all of it" as I was leaving.
Nice to come across 'Decent" "bad" guys =p

The basics were T9 NPCs transporting Void Opals and Low Temperature Diamonds from high population agricultural systems with ringed planets. Follow their wakes until they enter an Anarchy system then engage without legal problems per security systems. There was a YouTube video on it.
