Hi coaster friends!

We know you are eagerly awaiting more news on our 1.4 Anniversary Update, announced at this year’s Frontier Expo... With the game’s anniversary on November 17, we’d already hinted that the update would fall around this date. After taking into account some really valuable community feedback we received during and after Frontier Expo, we are happy to tell you that the 1.4 Anniversary Update will make its way to you on November 22, 2017!

Planet Coaster’s 1.4 Anniversary Update follows our free Winter, Spring, and Summer updates with new content, rides, and features. During our fantastic Frontier Expo we already showed you the following things:

  • Scenario Editor – giving you the tools to create your own custom scenarios and share them with the community through Steam Workshop!
  • Three new rides – the Weisshorn (a classic fairground ride), the Hop The Gaps (a rickety side friction ride), and the Cascade (our first water coaster).
  • Staff Management building – a place for your staff to rest and receive training.
  • A host of picnic benches – allowing you to create food courts and plazas!
  • Interchangeable coasters – this lets you switch coaster trains to other types of track allowing for maximum flexibility.

But wait... we’ve got a little bit more!

Firstly, due to much community feedback after the Weisshorn’s reveal at FX2017, we created the Monte Leone. This ride is a smaller and more compact version of the Weisshorn; it has the same mechanical cover and sequences as its bigger brother but it has no roof and a smaller control booth to allow you to customise your own look and feel for the ride.

At Frontier Expo we mentioned one more ride for you, so meet the Zenith coaster! The Zenith is a master class in rollercoaster engineering; it’s a hydraulic launched coaster with a top speed of 175mph that roars vertically up an enormous ‘Top Hat’ element that’s been custom made with a complex support system to include vertical incline and drop rolls for the ultimate thrill for your guests. The train has a sleek, high speed design to make this the complete package.

As well as the much requested picnic benches, you can also decorate your food courts with themed canopies, as well as a few new autumnal trees! We cannot wait to see the beautiful plazas you’ll create.

Last but not least, there are a heap of special management and UI improvements based on your feedback and reports. You’ll get a full list of changes in the upcoming patch notes, but here’s a few notable mentions.

  • Regarding custom biomes, you will now be able to swap the background as you see fit. This will allow you to create whatever vista you want!

  • We are now allowing for custom text on coasters; whatever you decide to name your coaster will now appear on the coaster car.
  • Some updates to triggers will now allow you to toggle objects for a certain time and at certain intervals (e.g. to create strobe lights).
  • We are also adding some kerbs and barriers to our pathing system to allow you to control the flow of guests.

To go into more detail on the Scenario Editor, its possibilities, and all of the UI and management additions, we’ve planned a special livestream on Wednesday November 15 which will feature a live build of the 1.4 Update (do note we will focus on the Scenario Editor only). Lead Programmer Andrew Chappell and Gameplay Programmer Bradley Pollard will tell you all about how it works and what you can achieve with it!

On Wednesday November 22, Lead Artist Sam Denney will join us for the launch day special and will play the update and talk about the process of making it all come together.

We hope you’re all excited, and just want to say thank you again for all your support.

[heart]
Bo

Pleasant surprise with the additional coaster. I hope it will be executed with high-quality standards.small additional improved listed are also very welcome, but i´m more curious about the UI and management changes. Looking forward to hear more about this. Thanks Frontier.

Thanks a lot for the info Bo. Really looking forward to see all the management and UI changes. Let's hope many adjustments are made to current system (security, prestige, priority pass, etc.) and many QOL fixes. About staff leaving stand and staff buildings, I hope we'll have staff-only paths.

Thanks for the hard team work and I hope for the best.

Looking forward to this release. Can't wait to get my hands on the Scenario Editor and see what we can bend it to do [wacky]

Cool! Custom Backgrounds to biomes was a popular request, still hoping for an ocean and space background
The Monte Leone was also a popular request, great to see your listen to the community [up]
Custom text on coasters? what!? thats cool!
Swapping cars yet another popular request :)
I'm really excited for the scenario editor thats #1 to me!!! but I also really want to know more about the management/UI improvements cant wait for the 15th to see more, also I really hope to see the ability to set land ownership and property purchasing rights with the scenario editor

"We are also adding some kerbs and barriers to our pathing system to allow you to control the flow of guests." Im so exited!!
I wonder if this will allow for staff only paths? or one way paths?

I don't know where to start :D

As much as i love the rides, its the small things that make me really happy :D ... The picknick table's, new tree's, etc.

This one is also a huge surprise to me :

EDIT :

"Some updates to triggers will now allow you to toggle objects for a certain time and at certain intervals (e.g. to create strobe lights)."
Does this also mean we can decide now how long triggered doors will remain open? Would be amazing if that's the case!!

What is exactly meant by this?

Next to that this update seems a great addition to the game. New trees. Picnic tables and the water coaster are the best additions for me. Also thank you for listening and removing the roof from the flatride

Hey Bo. Thanks for giving us more great news. And again, thanks Frontier for giving us more than we bargained for.

The autumn trees are a really nice touch. I can't wait to play around with the new features. One question. We've been missing an Intamin launch coaster with a more generic train from the get-go and this new coaster looks great. Will we be able to make it invert and alternatively have a normal lift hill, or is it going to be really similar to the Race car themed one, that's already in game?

Either way, it looks gorgeous.

The good: Glad you decided to include a version of the flat ride without the huge structure around it. The third coaster is a good addition, much better than what had been speculated about (the heartline coaster), but still wished it would've been an intamin blitz, but it's ok. The ability to control guests paths with curbs and other stuff is a very good feature, very happy about that. Not exactly sure what changes to management and UI we'll see, but any improvements is good in this regard. Actually all the additions/changes listed are definitely welcomed.

There are a couple of question marks for me though: Are you still not doing any improvements to the path building system? Making nice plazas with a bunch of tables to sit on will be almost impossible if the system is not easier to work it. It's still the games' worst aspect, and I really hope you are planning on fixing it. Also, what about getting rid of curbs on elevated paths? This seems like such a simple thing that should be easy to take care of, and would improve people's parks immensely. There are other things too, but the paths have been such a pain for such a long time... I really hope you decide to fix it.

Definitely giving kudos for the extra stuff you guys threw into this update though! Makes it feel a whole lot more significant compared to what was shown at the expo.
