Planet Coaster - Spring Update

There are features in RCT3 that are missing in PC. Even now, PC still feels incomplete compared with RCT3. But PC's rides are better looking than the default RCT3 ones, but there are some good looking CFR's and CTR's for RCT3. It is more difficult to make perfect ditches with PC for paths to go below ground level but not in a tunnel, in RCT3 it is easier because the land is on a grid and you can make slopes and cliffs real easy. PC it's more like trial and error when working with terrain and paths together. You won't get smooth vertical walls with land in PC. They will still be jagged.

Terrain and path interaction could be a lot better in Planet Coaster, I agree with that. There are also some systems from RCT3 that we would expect to be in Planet Coaster because they are kind of 'standard', like synchronized stations or shuttle mode for transport rides, etc. However, keep in mind that PC is not trying to be RCT3 and tries to improve the genre in a different way, namely getting rid of the grid system. The grid makes making paths and terrain really easy but it also removes almost any form of freedom.

PC's path and terrain systems are both very powerful and fairly complex give us a lot of freedom. A possible downside of this is that it can be difficult to get the hang of those systems. I say 'possible downside' because personally I don't mind spending some time to get that hang of those systems. I am not saying the path and terrain systems are anywhere near perfect, but when you actually take the time to learn how those systems behave etc, they aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

The same thing could be said about the coaster builder. RCT3 had pre-made pieces that align with the grid so making a coaster is very easy and quick. In PC we have the spline based system that except for the silly limitations the devs put in place allows us to make the track in any shape we want. It does take more time and is more difficult to use, but again that's the sacrifice you have to make if you want to have a more complex system.

Since I've played Planet Coaster, I cant go back to RCT3. I have tried, but after playing PC the grid system in RCT3 feels so limiting I cannot enjoy the building aspect anymore (I never really played these games for their management so not going to comment on that). So give me the freedom of Planet Coaster any day over the very limited grid system in RCT3 despite it makes 'some' things easier to do.

Is there any word on synchronized coaster dispatches to enable racing and dueling designs? I feel like this has been a big thing missing since the game launched. I'm surprised it hasn't been included yet. I was hoping this update would include it.

Remember there is a live stream this evening at 1900 BST that will showcase the upcoming spring update 1.2

nice post

(though I still 'need to get the hang of it', I appreciate the changes made)

(I personally wouldn't like the grid being reintroduced but I also feel however, that if certain things often keep receiving other requests and they'd make adjustments accordingly, I would understand. I'm all for the game being enjoyed by the largest amount of players :) I just hope people give it a fair chance :) )

Probably been asked already, but can you disable Security Features for scenarios? Because I'm not sure about that, if you can. I think security should be forced on for scenarios. It should be considered an integral part of the management mechanics.

I'm quite sure that like the winter update, the new mechanics only apply to the three new campaign maps, and are optional for challenge mode.

They said you can disable it, just like the prestige system. So it's up to you whether you want to use it or not. As it should be, imho. A creative game like Planet Coaster should always offer options so people can tweak the gameplay to their own liking.

They did say you can disable security, though I thought they said "in sandbox mode"

I'm not sure but I think security will probably only be included in the 3 new scenarios and challenge mode

Can't wait for this Update to come out. Sounds like it will be really fun! They have lots of new flat rides, and security staff. It's Monday April 10th 4:12 pm NZT. Friday this week is a public holiday so can saturate myself in Planet Coaster and all the new features in the April this weekend + Friday.

Not for career/scenarios etc. Sandbox on the other hand should have every option in a pre-screen UI like other such sandbox games do where you want to turn things on or off to suit your personal play style or try something different.

If in career/scenario you can just turn things off then you are not completing the goals that the scenario sets out with the challenge of those said mechanics introduced to the game.

Someone remind me what time of the day they usually roll out big updates? The anticipation is making me oo. [big grin]

Nevermind... Just saw the other 2 threads asking the same question. Ha ha.
