Newcomer / Intro Planet Minerals

With this new change in Odyssey how do you find the Bio and Geo spots on planets surface to collect or farm for raw mineral?
Can anyone help me out in how to do this now?

Thanks for any info or advice...o7

I gave it a go - didn't much like it as there isn't the "clumps" that you get with Horizons - they are spread out in the heat-map area. So I just do it in Horizons.

That, plus now the geo sites don't have higher chance of dropping rarer mats. I think they now have the same probability as a common outcrop.
It's better and more reliable to hunt for metallic meteorites using SRV's wave scanner.

...or to switch to Horizons, I guess.

Dang, like you said before Chris, I was hoping that we could at least still see it on the nav panel. Guess we can cross our finger ya, at least they still have it in the FSS so hopefully they might bring it back after bigger problems are finished...o7

Thanks again for the replies you guys...:).o7

Geo's are definitely borked at the moment. I've only been getting G1 stuff from cobbles, crystals and clusters which isn't nice. As Chris said, metal meteors are better but they are fewer and further between.

Another option is laser mining. You can get raws from these as well but, again, not common.

I'm saving my raw materials until I really need them. I just hope a fix is in the pipeline :(

You can get some top grade raws from the crashed Anaconda site though.

I think the whole surface stuff in Oddity is a complete mentula-up. I have not done a lot of surface work in it but (apart from the fact that one can at least travel without wrecking the SRV since the Alpha) I find the rest of it completely underwhelming. I think doctor kay needs to have a serious rethink about what their much-vaunted surface features update is actually doing because to me it is complete pants.

Yeah, I'm scratching my head about that myself. It looks horrid. I can see the grids in most cases, and the little squares of texture they put in there. It looks like minecraft or something. Blocks on blocks. They don't blend well, and every stinking little square is anti-aliased by the graphics engine, resulting in constant flickering and false motion.

I can't believe they worked hard on this. It looks like a shamble to me, untested, incomplete.

I really hope they manage to fix it up.

And then there are the invisible rocks you can hit in your SRV that warp the chassis.

(Not to mention the auto-land computer sometimes lets you touch down at a 45 degree angle with part of your landing gear pointing up in the air somewhat).
