Planet Zoo 2 Keep/Not Keep Game

A fun little game.

If Planet zoo 2 came out in about 4 years from now.

Which 10 animals would you want to keep 100% from planet zoo 1 (they came with you to the base game, not DLC)
Which 10 animals would you dump and don’t take with you to planet zoo 2 (they never come to the game, also not in expansion packs)
Which 10 animals still not in planet zoo 1 would you want in the base game roster as new faces?

This brought an interesting question I didn't think of. If we get a PZ2, how would the DLCs work? They've already developed all the animals, and just porting them over in new DLCs would feel sorta cheap. And they obviously can't just include all of them in the base game, so what would they do?

Honestly that has been my question for awhile. I really want birds, but I seriously don’t think birds have the buying power I hope they would. I know planet zoo is a niche game, but making packs dedicated to birds and only birds, for a sequel game just feels like it wouldn’t do well.

In Planet Zoo we are already using up all the ABC popular animals (mammals mostly) in our dlc. So I couldn’t even imagine what dlc for Planet Zoo 2 will like. Also I don’t think people would be happy with having to rebuy animals after they already spent a lot on Planet Zoo.

How about just no planet zoo 2?
I bet theirs nothing frontier couldnt manage in planet zoo 1 when they flex their creative muscles, see modular giftshops for example, so why should their be a sequel?
Its also not cost effective, the current dlc and support model works so why break it?
They must innovate big time to make planet zoo 2 worth it and not just planet zoo but they cut some animals and you cant keep your progress and why who you even buy that again?

I had assessed this earlier in another thread but:
I think Frontier kind of screwed themselves for PZ2.
I cherish so much what they did with PZ, gimme birds and manatee, but they over developped PZ in the wrong direction to give a PZ2 with the same support model.

Frontier removes parts of the animals:
Will I happily pass on PZ2 having what we gained over 4 years gone? Nope
Will I buy again some animals in the DLC? Nope
Result: resentment and maybe not buying

Frontier keeps all the animals, and add birds, freshwater aquariums:

Will I be happy to pay again (anyway) for the animals I already had + birds? Not sure
It doesn't remain many important and key land species to have now, so will I buy birds and aquatics for 3 or 4 years? Not sure neither, even less sure than casual players would do it.
Result: I spend less in PZ2 than PZ.
I am pretty sure I am not the only one feeling this way so I would fear for Frontier in any case with a PZ2

For the future, I think it depends how much the community is ready to accept that birds and aquatics would be mostly looped behaviors in modulable tanks and aviaries and not free swim and flight. (I would take it with pleasure to be honest).

And for this game

Same way as they work now.
I seriously dont get logic behing most comments. If there is not enough content for PZ2 DLCs then there is not enough content for 2024 and go on. It is simple as it is. I get it some people are against sequel, which is fine, but also arguments used against it are often straight up stupid lol.

Edit: perhaps the most sensible argument I ever saw against sequel was long wait period.

I agree with the rather not worry about PZ2! I think the only thing that PZ needs is better time scale... and... maybe animals to have their own personalities! (for personalities though I would be fine even if it was just a cosmetic descriptor in an animal's bio...) I mean, I already give my animals personalities and stories.
PZ is itself near perfection! Good graphics, good selection (as far as broad types aside from primates and non mammals go), good updates...
I wish for another canid for PZ I'd hope before the end of the game's official support we could get an animal maker's toolkit... Even if it was just as simple as flexicolor for each markings...

Keep:
  • All of the “essentials” for a typical zoo.
Replace (Base Game Only):
  • Black Wildebeest —> Musk Ox
  • Formosan Black Bear —> Asiatic Black Bear
  • Himalayan Brown Bear —> Eurasian Brown Bear
  • Nile Monitor —> Nile Crocodile
  • Springbok —> Southern Eland OR Greater Kudu
Add to Base Game from DLCs:
  • Komodo Dragon
  • Thompson’s Gazelle
  • Polar Bear
  • Jaguar
  • Capuchin Monkey
  • Red Kangaroo
  • Koala
  • King Penguin
  • Clouded Leopard
  • Southern White Rhinoceros
  • Meerkat
  • Moose
  • California Sea Lion
  • American Alligator
  • Alpine Ibex
  • Capybara
  • Asian Small-Clawed Otter
  • Przewalski’s Wild Horse
  • Red Fox
  • Raccoon
  • Blue Wildebeest
  • Emu
  • Lar Gibbon
  • Dromedary Camel
  • Black Rhinoceros
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Wolverine
  • Wild Boar

I don’t necessarily get all the hate for PZ2. I understand people want support to continue, but it likely isn’t going to go on forever. If the option is Pz ends support soon because of the new CMS game coming out and never releases a PZ2 or releases a PZ2, I’ll gladly sign up for PZ2.

I would also hate to pay for the same animals again, but for those saying there isn’t much to add:

1. Unique animal personalities and traits. Something I thought this game would have upon release, but sadly not every animal was unique. Animals would have different attitudes. Some are shy, others aggressive. Etc.
2. Expand on the unique skin and fur textures already in PZ. Think varied antlers with some being broken. Or an elephant tusk missing. Etc. shaggier fur for one orangutan as opposed to another.
3. Greatly expand animal interaction. Not just adding more per species. Have more interspecies animation. Gibbons and orangutans playing. A boar chasing off a deer because it got too close. They could also add the enrichment items to all suitable species.
4. Guest-animal interaction. This would make a petting zoo more palatable for me(and I’m against it). Tug of war vs lions with 8 guests. Feeding animals. Using a hose. Ambassador animals being carried around the zoo by an educator.
5. A revamp of all base game animals to fit the quality of those in dlc.
6. Full aviary capability.
7. Full marine capability.
8. Exhibit overhaul.

And many are gonna say they could do that in PZ1. And admittedly, you’re kind of right. However, many of the above would be in a free update. They wouldn’t be making money for massive overhauls that the team probably can’t support right now. Revamping all base game animals for free? Never gonna happen. If you add 4 or 5 of the above, I’d gladly pay for the game again in 3 years.

-dwarf goat
-chicken
-pelican

  • Formosan Black Bear
  • Sable Antelope
  • Dama Gazelle
  • Bonobo
  • Baird's Tapir (I'd rather have the Brazilian one)
  • Arctic Fox
  • Arctic Wolf
  • Dall Sheep
  • Spectacled Caiman
  • Dhole

Dishonourable mentions:
  • Grey Seal
  • Quokka
  • Pronghorn

No offense to anyone, I really am not a big fan of European and North American animals

Oooh, I'll join in this game since this has been on my mind on species to keep and carry over to Planet Zoo 2 and which ones shouldn't even be in the game in the first place.

My 10 "Keeps":
  1. Southern cassowary
  2. Emu
  3. North Island brown kiwi
  4. Red crowned crane
  5. Platypus
  6. Black rhinoceros
  7. Capybara
  8. Asian small-clawed otter
  9. Cuvier's dwarf caiman
  10. Colombian white-faced capuchin

My 10 "Deletes":
  1. Black wildebeest
  2. Brazilian salmon pink tarantula
  3. Giant burrowing cockroach
  4. Giant desert hairy scorpion
  5. Himalayan brown bear
  6. Lehmann's poison frog
  7. Llama
  8. Mute swan
  9. Proboscis monkey
  10. Yellow anaconda
It was hard for me to choose which animals I wouldn't want in the game. I can only pick three DLC animals that I don't see myself using anytime soon in the game. I had more issues with the choice of base game animals than I did with the DLC animals.

My 10 "New Faces":
  1. Any large macaw species
  2. Any New World monkey (that's not a howler)
  3. Any of the two ground-hornbills
  4. Any pelican species
  5. East African grey crowned-crane
  6. Grévy's zebra
  7. Greater kudu
  8. Impala
  9. Secretarybird
  10. West Indian manatee

Frankly, I just want more birds in the game. Aviaries are just as much a backbone for zoos as are the charismatic hookstock and large carnivores.

I don't feel like doing everything, so I'm just going to do the ones I want them to keep for sure (and none I want to get rid of or are neutral on)

-Caracal
-Cheetah
