Planet Zoo 2 Launch Roster Poll

Since most of us agree that Frontier is working on Planet Zoo 2, and there have been a lot of different opinions about what the launch roster would mean for each of us, I thought it might be useful to collect some data on how we'd react. This is a simple poll to understand how the number of animals at launch might affect your decision.

Same roster: buy immediately
160 animals at launch: buy immediately
120 animals: buy immediately
80 animls: wait until we get the full current roster plust extras

Not to throw things off on this, but a lot of this, for me anyways, would need to take into account if we're getting flying birds and fully aquatic species as well.

For instance, I'd probably immediately buy a 100 roster game with 40 standard habitat animals, and 20 each of flying birds, fully marine animals and 20 exhibit animals. Whereas if it were just a 150 animal roster of what we've gotten in PZ1, I'd probably wait until those type of animals came out.

If PZ2 is going to just offer the same roster but with upgraded U! and building tools, but no new types of animals, there is no point for me to get it at all.

Do you mind if I put the 80 in 3–4 years? Two doesn’t seem enough to get everything plus extras. Or I can just leave the 80 out

Yeah, I know it’s not perfect since we won’t know the roster until launch, so there’s at least one more year to go. We have to consider what’s plausible for example, in a 100-species roster, it’s very unlikely we’ll immediately get 20 new species of flying birds plus 20 fully marine animals.

This post made me realise that my bigger source of umbrage is the act of re-paying for PZ1 species as opposed to them just not being in at launch. If they save some to ge given out for free as a teaser to an upcoming DLC pack (similar to the Malabar rose), then I'd be fine. But it they start costing money, that's where I draw the line.

Yeah, we have the same red line, but I don’t see them starting at with something like 105 and then giving the other half for free. Most likely, there’ll be DLCs with resells, since the game has a lot of big names. But maybe they’ll actually import the species to PZ2. I mean, a lot of companies and games have done that. They did it with JE, too (though the info you gave me about the new one took away a lot of my hope).Sometimes companies surprise us in a good way. I still remember Square Enix giving all players several free weeks (maybe even months) just because of long queue times during peak hours.

So long as we get a decent roster, upgraded versions of the animals, new features (PC2 building tools and then some), and the whole thing doesn't feel like a step backward from the "final version" of PZ1? I don't see myself waiting at all.

I want a sequel to be better but parity in species isn't something that's necessarily required for that to happen. We might get ~80 animals but if 60 of them are existing and 20 of them are fish and birds? That wouldn't be great but you can see how the vibe might be different compared to, say, if it were just all of the original base game animals and nothing else.

Full roster: Buy immediately
160: Buy Immediately (if they promise they’ll be back in free updates)
120: Buy Immediately (if they promise they’ll be back in updates
80: wait 1-2 years see what they’ve done
