It is so funny that most peoples opinions are mostly straight opposed to mine, animals/characters/dinosaurs/gemstones/whatever I like, is mostly not liked by others, must be some form of curse

I think red deer looks standard and vanilla for a deer, I like Fallow Deer, Muntjac, Pere Davids, Moose and Reindeer to make it into the game, after that Elk, after that, meh. I know many Americans crave for a white-Tail, but those are even more vanilla than Red Deers

There is nothing wrong with ugly animals, most of my favorites are ugly animals. But in the case of the red deer, wapiti or elk is a FAR superior species that is bigger, so in this case better. I love Fallow Deer though, togeter with Red River Hog and Peacock they are the Vanity Smurfs of animal kingdom.
There are legitimate reasons to prefer the elk over the red deer, primarly prefering to build in an north american or european setting or to just generally prefer the range of north america and north eastern asia over europe, Western asia and north africa, but calling one "ugly" and prefering the other because of that, when they look very much alike with just light changes in fur color and pattern just makes no sense.

Ofcourse you can prefer ones appearance over the other, but the different isnt large enough to make one "ugly" and the other not

I don't really care too much for deer anyways, I don't think I've ever used them in the game. But their one of the first animals I would think of for Europe, so I would say essential.

In my original placement I had it in save for DLC and the red deer in base game although I do see that the fallow deer may be a bit more useful than the red deer as many have said. So it goes into essential.

Ugh im gonna say essential for everything :ROFLMAO: . Like I want a Bison, I don't really care which one. The other one is nice to have but at the same time I don't want to pay for it again.

For an animal representing European conservation efforts, I would say essential.

Despite ungulate fatigue I was excited for this one, due to aforementioned conservation success.
