Say we could only get 1 of the bison, would people care if the American bison wasn’t in the base game?
I would be incredibly miffed if this were to happen. I’m sure it’s just because I’m American, but the American buffalo is so, so much more iconic and visually appealing to me. If there were a tier above Essential, it would be in that tier on my list.

Animal #33 - Wisent
It's not one I personally need, and I don't view it as essential to the base game at all. It is important to Europe, though, so I would probably save it for DLCs or as an oddball base-game pick. It made people happy, and it should probably show up at some point. The American bison is the big one for the base game, but this one is neat and different enough to be very justifiable.

There are legitimate reasons to prefer the elk over the red deer, primarly prefering to build in an north american or european setting or to just generally prefer the range of north america and north eastern asia over europe, Western asia and north africa, but calling one "ugly" and prefering the other because of that, when they look very much alike with just light changes in fur color and pattern just makes no sense.

Ofcourse you can prefer ones appearance over the other, but the different isnt large enough to make one "ugly" and the other not
Where did I say that the Wapiti is not ugly? Every deer is ugly compared to the Fallow Deer.

The American Bison is just too historically significant to the plains tribes and an icon of the Great Plains as a whole for me to not prioritize it over the Wisent. Then again I also don't live in Europe

The wisent meanwhile has one of the historically most important conservation efforts as it simply was one of the very first and arguably most successfull.
It shaped the way ex situ conservation has been done, which makes it in a zoo context far more historically significant then the american bison.
They are also among the creatures most commonly depicted in cave paintings and other prehistoric arts and craft, with one of the oldest artistic object found, dating 40.000 years ago, being the small figure of a wisent.
Both have their place and both are significant in their own way so Statements like the implied larger historicy significance of the american bison most of the time are more backed by the lack of knowledge over the other creature then the knowledge of the one presented.

I don’t see why we can’t get both in base game. I mean, we absolutely SHOULD get both in base game to stop people from complaining when one takes up a DLC spot. As many ‘clones’ as possible should be in the PZ2 base roster. Give us both, make everyone happy.
no.

Which category does it fit into?
  • Essential for Planet Zoo 2 Base Game
  • Save for PZ2 DLCs/Deluxe
  • Doesn’t need to make it but sure
  • Can be left out entirely
For me is a Doesn't need to make it but sure. The model is great and i understand for europeans are a icon of conservation and local fauna. But if the sequel comes with an updated american bison i really don't care if the wisent is back in the game or not.

As long as clones don't take away spots for more animals.

I mean we have two versions.

VERSION ONE, I HATE THIS VERSION.
We get 100 animals in the main game, two tigers, two bisons, Wapiti +Red Deer, 4 Lemur's all being part of that number 100, they take precious spots of more needed unique looking animals. Imagine missing out on Secretary Birds and Walrusses again in the main game because we need Bonobo, two tigers and a freaking double bovine-animal in the main game over them.

VERSION TWO, I LOVE THIS VERSION
We get 110 animals in the main game, the 10 being easily made clone animals, like the ones i mentioned above, they don't take up extra spots as they are added as free extra's and don't keep more interesting animals out of the main game OR dlc.
