The wisent meanwhile has one of the historically most important conservation efforts as it simply was one of the very first and arguably most successfull.
It shaped the way ex situ conservation has been done, which makes it in a zoo context far more historically significant then the american bison.
They are also among the creatures most commonly depicted in cave paintings and other prehistoric arts and craft, with one of the oldest artistic object found, dating 40.000 years ago, being the small figure of a wisent.
Both have their place and both are significant in their own way so Statements like the implied larger historicy significance of the american bison most of the time are more backed by the lack of knowledge over the other creature then the knowledge of the one presented.
You make an excellent argument and I apologize for selling the wisent short. It really is silly to argue which is the more historically significant animal. Still, I have no doubt that the American bison is the more popular animal and would be prioritized over the wisent almost assuredly. Both should indeed be in the game, but the wisent just screams "DLC animal" to me.

Completly understandable opinion, its just an important thing to remember from time to time that even things that seem not that interesting or similar can be very different in reality and the bisons are just a great example for that.
+ i doubt that most people here were botherd by a reminder of some of the wisents qualitys

Essential. Definitely one of the most iconic and essential species for Europe. I didn’t mind it not being in the base game and in a later pack for the first game but I think it should make it right away in the second.

Animal #34 - Giant Otter
View attachment 410816Which category does it fit into?
  • Essential for Planet Zoo 2 Base Game
  • Save for PZ2 DLCs/Deluxe
  • Doesn’t need to make it but sure
  • Can be left out entirely
Essential, we need pretty much all the south american animals we already have in the base game, plus its a favourite of mine
I'm of the same line of thinking. Anything from SA and Ocenia is essential in my eyes (for the most part). But i can see this one coming back in an Amazon DLC in remaster glory so i'm going to say Save for DLC / deluxe in this case.

Id say DLC/Deluxe, still could also be base game material depending on how many spots there are
Asian small clawed is definetly the essential otter to get imo
To elaborate: I just think there are alot of more important animals to get for SA, both already in game and those rather likely still to come. Stuff like jaguar, capuchin, tapir, capybara, one each of the caimans and camelids plus whatever of coati, rhea+mara and second monkey we may still get are what id say are the core essential SA animals. Than depending on how many spot there are id start tapping into what is left including the giant otter

Yes i agree. Although the Baird's tapir is no the essential tapir imo. And tbh i don't want to wait for the bear to take up another slot again in DLCS so now that we already have it and in goos quality i'd say keep it in the sequel's base game as well. Peccary is also pretty basic tbh.
