Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

Makes me hopeful that the sequel will also have better inside building.

So... Aviaries, aquariums and nocturnal houses plus scaling, mirroring, and better path system in PZ2? Well now that is a sequel worth buying then.
 
So following the awesome announcement of PC2, let's discuss PZ2. Here are soem questions:
  1. What do you think will be in PZ2?
  2. What will be the key new features?
  3. How much of the current roster will transfer to the sequel?
  4. What are your hopes?
  5. What do you hope not to see in a sequel?
  6. What feature from what's announced in PC2 will you want in PZ2?
  7. What do you think will be the base roster of the sequel? And how many species?
Given that PC2 is bringing in water parks. I believe PZ2 will bring in Ocean World so that aquatics and marine life will be able to be added beyond crocodilians, seals, otters and penguins. It would be nice it PZ2 also would bring in also flying fowl which is a possibility.

Hoping for a greater roster allowing for them to support the game for a longer period of time with more variety of animals with those that will be returning. Hoping for more variety of things we are able to add to each enclosure. Again going back to PC2 with the level of customization. This would be a greater addition to PZ2. Other variations of water rides, ziplines, trains, rafts and such rides would be nice additions.
 
So, looks like Coaster 2 includes all the DLC rides and coasters from Coaster 1. That's kind of crazy to me, because what else is there to add in a coaster game? At least with Zoo, if the sequel comes with (at least most) of our current game roster, there are still myriad birds and some aquatic species to add to keep things moving in terms of DLC. The first thing that came to mind for Coaster for me was 'dark rides', but IIRC they were already in the game, albeit a little janky due to the god-ray problem. Maybe log flumes and the like? I never played Coaster 1 so I have no real idea what was actually in it beyond the basics.

I think PZ2 DLC will look a lot more like JWE2 DLC. Each pack will be divided between two 'regular' habitat animals, one flying animal, and one aquatic animal as a basic model (plus an exhibit animal, whatever form that ends up taking in the sequel). Potentially there will be outliers with a DLC for only aquatics or birds or regular animals.

The theme parks are constantly innovating and there are new rides and coasters that didn't exist back when Planet Coaster 1 was developed. Also, I always found the flat rides options very limited in the original game. Something that could be added are dual stations for rollercoasters (most Disney coasters have these dual stations for example).

In addition, they can still add drone shows, parades, more water slides and a lot of new building themes.
 
Yea if we can get freeform pools... Something I really didn't expect it gives me hope that a similar system for exhibits could become feasible. Especially for aviaries or aquariums this would be amazing.

At that point such a tool would just make it easier for habitats, not for exhibits 😂

If you use the pool/path draw setup from PC2 and autogenerate an aviary which you can adjust some of the curves and the poles from, then you basically have what you need to make habitat(-like) aviaries instead of the exhibit system, which would honestly be much better.

Didn't think about that but that is true and would definitely be amazing. I think my brain instantly went to exhibits as we are stuck with the one size.

  1. New darkride themes. I know they already have dark rides, but with the improved lighting I really feel like they can dive into it. They can do a number of themes now: pirates, ghosts, castles, mineshafts, dinosaurs, etc.
  2. As you mentioned, the log flumes and other “prepared to get wet” rides.
  3. With the new improved time system I hope we can get some seasonal stuff. This is what I would be most excited for: do what Universal and Disney does and you can have some haunted houses! Maybe you can hire staff and even get some spooky decorations. Maybe you can set up a number of scare zones? Likewise for Christmas maybe you can get a Santa figure, and some other cute decorations.
  4. Maybe indoor rollar coasters? Likewise my local amusement park has this indoor ride that really whips you around. It’s very fun!
  5. Ok, I hope no one gets to angry over this. But maybe they could add a handful of animals. Like really basic stuff like peacocks and petting zoo animals.
Other than that, I am also not too sure what else they can do, I haven’t been to an amusement park in a minute.

Edited to add something else I just thought of: shows! Music, dog shows, pyrotechnics, comedy shows. A know a number of amusement parks that do this! Also 3D/ 4D rides. Like the bugs life ride in animal kingdom!

I think a disney park esq dlc is also possible, likely even. You know whimsical fairytale stuff, thats something pc2 doesnt really have at all yet

That’s absolutely a possibility. In Bush Gardens in Virginia they have a “dragon land” near the Germany and Oktoberfest section (this amusement park is based around Europe). So besides the obvious fairytale inspired stuff, maybe we can see children areas and claimable structures for guests.

Like making it more realistic in terms of when the animals are most active.
You could split them into 4 categories:
-Diurnal, mainly active at daytime: Chimpanzee, Monitors
-Nocturnal, mainly active at nightime: Fennec, Kiwi
-Crepuscular, mainly active at dawn and dusk: Raccoon, Deer
-Cathemeral, active whenever really: Lions, Elephants and other large herbivores
Obviously this doesnt mean that you should never see nocturnal animals out at daytime, since that for one would kinda suck because you dont see your animals, but also because they are still out during the day from time to time, especially in zoos. Just tendencies for when they are most active.
Ideally it should be tie to the lightlevel instead of the actual daytime so you have active nocturnal animals in a dark nocturnal house for example even tho its daytime

Yea this would be a really cool management feature. It would also be nice to see animals actually sleeping at night and such.
 
I would like to talk about something that hasn't been discussed much: namely, barrier options. I feel like most advanced builders refrain from using the barriers and instead use a null barrier and objects, but I'm really hoping PZ2 will give us barriers that can work to make a functional and realistic habitat. That's why I have some things I would like to see:

  • First of all, more barrier types. Ideally we'd get all or most fence pieces as a barrier and vice versa. I also think all construction sets should have one barrier to give us more flexibility. I'd also love to see path railings as separate barrier objects.
  • Less striking barrier posts: especially for concrete and brick walls, it would be great to have posts that are smaller and can easily be hidden.
  • Leaning barriers: I would love to have the option to have the barrier or at least part of it leaning into or out from the habitat (see images below for examples). I know this can be done with objects, but it gets ugly when the barrier also curves on the horizontal axis.
  • Alternatively, we could have more design options for the climb-proof edges on some of the barriers.
  • The above function could potentially be used to also create domes or aviaries.
  • Having underwater tunnels as an in-game feature.
  • Having the possibility to place barriers directly at the path's edges and vice versa.
  • Being able to paint barriers, i.e. through advanced flexicolour options that allow you to upload an image such as we have with the billboards. I don't think this is realistic but it would be amazing to have.

I was thinking of having more environmental interactions in animal entities.
Eg. Now in PZ1 animals avoid rain and snow running into shelter. But in PZ2 some species have enrichment bonuses in different weather, like polar bears and penguins getting more bonus in snowfall or elephants and rhinos getting more bonus in rainy weathers.
I'm not sure how plausible this is but just a thought 😂😅
 
-Fish and other fully aquatic animals (like fully aquatic amphibians like the greater siren, aquatic inverts like horseshoe crab, etc. And instead of just generic fish, please also give us some weird/unique looking fish like eels, lungfish, bichirs, etc. Also octopus and/or squid, some type of stingray, and some type of shark are a must.)

-Flying birds/aviaries

-No exhibit animals. Every animal is fully interactable, even the snakes, bats, insects, etc. Now you can make reptile houses, bug houses, and nocturnal animal houses.

-Focus less on subspecies and more on main species. Even as a wolf lover, I would gladly give up the Arctic Wolf (which is just another subspecies of gray wolf) if it meant getting the coyote in-game. I know coyote doesn't fit in the Arctic Pack, but my idea would've been that the Arctic Fox would've been in the Arctic Pack instead of the Arctic Wolf and then the Coyote would've been in the North America Pack because there now would've been a spot opened up for it.)
 
I want Frontier to take a leaf out of Hitman's book and have it so that if you bought an animal in a DLC pack for PZ1, then you have it in PZ2 (if it's not a part of the base game already)...So essentially PZ1 DLC also becomes PZ2 DLC.
Connect the games and then have future content for PZ2 be concentrated on aquatic/aviary/so far unrepresented habitat animals.
