šŸ¾ Planet Zoo: Africa Pack arriving 22 June šŸ¾

tell that to the Malayan tapir. Poor guy
Yes, but they literally did not change the model of the tapir - it's an unfinished animal. I'd also say that there's no way to really know how easy it is to change an animal's skin from Frontier's perspective. I don't take the modders at their word on this because they clearly operate on different terms.

In any case if you think a dromedary camel is just a different coloured Bactrian, then mate, you need to have a Google. šŸ˜…

As to your other examples, leopards behave differently from any other cat in the game, and look very different too, so not a 'clone', and the Nile crocodile is also very different from the saltie. As I said in another post, the Arctic wolf wasn't free and wasn't thrown in, and to get the dromedary, leopard, or Nile crocodile you'd need the same amount of effort, really.

NZFanatic is right there really is no such thing as a simple reskin. No doubt some are easier then others to make something from a certain animal but still requires time and effort. As far as the dromedary being released with 1.6 it really doesnā€™t matter tbh. It would be great if it was a surprise but if frontier didnā€™t release any free animals for the entirety of PZ thatā€™s ok too as we weā€™re never promised. I do believe the dromedary gets in the game somehow and even if it doesnā€™t thereā€™s a very nice mod of said animal. I still believe frontier will give us a free animal at some point like a dromedary which does make perfect sense but if not thatā€™s ok too Iā€™m just happy to finally have these three highly requested animals in game and the penguin makes a nice addition as well.

Yea, no big deal, I am willing to pay for additional animals. I just wish there was some way to boost the animal roster beside the regular packs that probably wont get bigger and more expensive, so even something as a possibility of additional dromedary did excite me.

I dont see the dromedary as a reskin, but it surely is less work than an animal with very unique rig/animations. If there was a possibility of animals like this on a monthly basis, would gladly pay for them. (It was an excellent suggestion by @markun , but cant find the thread as its burried somewhere).
Stuff like dromedaries, american flamingos, white and ruffed lemurs...Just to have a bit of variety, just to not have all zoos display the same species of flamingos etc. While leaving the more unique animals for the big packs.

But like I said I dont demand anything for free, it was just a unique situation of seeing that piece because it basically never happened in any other packs.

On another note, I'm really looking forward to the dev diary on Monday (I think it usually comes out on a Monday, a day before DLC release?). Those are always so cool and insightful. I wish we could get more little bits and pieces like that. It's interesting to see the process of creating the scenery, foliage and animals, and how they decide what to include. :)

Honestly, I still lve the monthly animal idea and it would also be a perfect way to support this game long term when tradtitionally DLCs aren't a thing anymore. The reviews of the SEA pack should have showed Frontier that yes, a good portion of players play this game for the animals.

I'm pretty sure if their modelling suggested it would be financially viable AND they had the Dev staff then they probably would release more animals regularly but they have got other games to make and other things to do and as I've said before I'd rather they put resources into new mechanics alongside more unique animals, especially as the modding is really getting going now. I doubt they are sitting there going 'oh we could make more money and make our customers really happy but we really don't want to'. I suspect that Frontier has some highly skilled animal modellers and animators that are pretty specialist in the industry and have an intimate knowledge of the cobra engine - we saw that in the video where they showed how they were not just working on new animals but also trying to speed up the process with new techniques. I don't think it's the kind of things where you can just hire more people even if it is financially viable and some of that talent will undoubtedly be working on JWE2 as well. It's not like each individual employee is likely to be working on one single project and the PZ DLCs are the only thing they have to get on with much though we would like that to be the case.

I do get where you are comming from. Of course, they are free to do whatever they want/find viable, but I would be not true to myself if I stopped asking for things that I want in game. After all, we are all free to express our opinions and wishes for the game. Frontier does not have to listen (but I believe they DO listen, as shown in alot of updates and recent animal choices for the packs are also great), or they might not grant us that wish because of financial reasons but in the end we can tell to ourselves that at least we tried to ask and I will continue to do so, even if it may annoy Frontier, it is comming from a good place, no hate on them or anything. :)

I really liked the idea from the start but there's an argument against doing this: A lot of people look at other Frontier games and expect certain features or similar treatment as that game.
If you are going with the monthly DLC, people from other games will expect the same treatment. JWE2, F1 manager game, Warhammer game and maybe a future PC2 or PZ2.
It's tricky.

Oh yes - I know and I think it is a positive thing that we are vocal about wanting more and I agree. It wasn't really criticism just my thoughts on why it may not be possible. I think asking for what we want - more animals, more scenery, more mechnics, qol improvements and giving them feedback on the ones we have is what we are supposed to do on this forum. I just worry sometimes that we sound too much like we think it's easy to do. I just don't want anyone thinking we undervalue their work by saying they ought to be able to produce new content 'on demand'. Apart from anything else it's really clear that the community is pretty diverse in it's opinions about what should be a priority! Sometimes I think if we all have minor complaints they are probably on the right track with balancing their efforts :D

You are righ, sometimes we might seem like that. At the moment, PZ is basically the only game I tend to play, so I naturally would love to get the most out of it. New features and improvents are of course equally needed. I certainly did not mean to sound ungrateful or anything. Like I said, I think Frontier have been listening to alot of our feedback and its great. And even if the idea with monthly animal would not be possible, I hope Frontier at least looked at it and considered it, even if the outcome would be negative.

But yeah, there are so many wishes, and they cant make everyone happy, that is true.

I'm not really bothered if they did this monthly animal thing or not, I mean it would be great if they did because I'm always hungry for more animals in the game, but it's not something I expect at this stage.

I will say though, in your argument here, isn't this exactly the opposite of what your argument is for why PZ never should've expected something like an anniversary? Just because PC got one, doesn't mean PZ should/will because they're separate games, right?

So even if they did decide to do a monthly paid animal, their other games should have no bearing on that decision, right?

It's far from the opposite. It's adding to the argument.
In short: People shouldn't expect them but for some reason they will do it. (Frontier forum is somewhat unique in this)
So don't give them a hype/expectation. The whole camel discussion was clear on not creating expectations.

  • The anniversary update is only one of the reasons why don't want to create expectations, especially if it's not even a grounded one
  • JWE2 is another one, people are already expecting similar features as PZ
  • 3-4 month DLC, they never announced this. It was only based on the PC DLC experiences. People got upset because PZ didn't do the same last year summer.
  • Console version: People don't want console because PC dlc support stopped after they did this.
  • JWE2 will be getting aviaries/large aquatic animals, people are already assuming this will come to PZ.

At some point it's just easier to avoid such situations or ignore them but that will create communication complaints.

So even if they did decide to do a monthly paid animal, their other games should have no bearing on that decision, right?
It should but based on PZ experiences that's not going to happen.
Also seen too many comments about people commenting that PZ is neglected or gets less attention than their other games, so people can't make a distinction.

Ok, I see what you're saying, thanks for elaborating.
