Planet Zoo: Eurasia Animal Pack arriving 13 Dec ❄️

Wild Boar-2/10 Can't say much about that, It looks good but, it's the same tier as Red Fox- animal you can just meet anywhere by accident, not well represented in zoos, and overall the most boring pick in this year (i'm not afraid to say that)

Really stoked about this pack! The wolverine and takin are two critters I've wanted in-game from the jump; the mute swan and sloth bear are both exceptional additions that I didn't know I needed; and both the boar and wisent will add some variety to more "temperate" zoo areas. I'm less excited about the saiga and the tortoise but it's still great to have them in-game!

Between these new species, the scenario map, and the new update features? This might wind up being my favorite pack/update of 2023.*

* - Or at the very least, it will be tied with the Tropical and Oceania packs. :ROFLMAO:

Okay so, my opinions of each animal:
  • Sichuan takin: Incredibly excited we got them. Most definitely my most wanted animal after the Przewalski's horse got in last year. What they have shown is just so good, I'm just very very very excited. I don't have much else to say, just look at them.
  • Mute swan: A duck. Waterfowl. More birds in this game. What else can I say??? I'm super excited for these guys!!!!! Such a good zoo animal too, can't wait to have some just inhabiting the moats of my exhibits. And what can I say for modders??? I'm so happy to see what they do with them!
  • European bison: The only way Frontier could make me angry about getting them would be if they replaced the takin ahahaha. When the trailer notification got to my phone and saw the bison on the thumbnail my hearth broke for a sec, because after the very good theory SalamAnders posted I was convinced that if one got in, the other would be out. But when I saw BOTH were in the pack I screamed a little of pure joy. The wisent is such a good animal for a zoo game, and one I see in so many collections. It's a must have European zoo animal and I'm so happy that we finally have them in THE zoo game!
  • Wild boar: Another amazing-looking model. Wild boars are pretty much at most zoos around me (The native subspecies can be found very easily at any Spanish institution) and I think they make an amazing display species. I also really like suids and I was missing them, in general, most European species are welcome in my book to the game.
  • Wolverine: Been waiting for these for a very long while too! Alongside the takin, the wolverine was in my original meta wishlist submission back before the Europe Pack was even released! They are an amazing representative of boreal forests and another representative of the great variety mustelids can have. Incredibly happy we got them.
  • Saiga: Now we get a lil bit more... controversial. I'm not as big as a fan of the saiga as I am of the rest of the pack, but I do love saigas. The lack of proper captive populations always conditions my feelings thorwards which species we should get in the game, and saigas are known to not do that. By the same measurements, I love the idea of this lovely gazelle reaching more and more public through PZ, I'm always happy if an endangered species gets in. Would I have preferred something like a markhor or muntjac? Yes. Am I upset we got a saiga? Not at all.
  • Sloth bear: This one is just... weird. We have an entire pack of European, central-asian and north asian species and we suddenly get a species from the indian subcontinent? I won't be complaining though, the sloth bear is my favourite bear species and I'm very happy it's here, although when it came to bears I was ready to just close the box if the Andean got in. Would I have replaced them with something else? Yes. Am I upset we got it? Nope.
  • Hermann's tortoise: How I wish they were a habitat animal. I love myself some small tortoise enclosures, too bad they are confined to the box! A very cool species nonetheless.

Back when we were still speculating the Europe pack, I was one of the few that was saying that Europe needed a whole Animal Pack. Now, after all the time and additions we got with DLCs and updates, and this pack alone, I can safely say that European fauna has been made justice. And the takin too, I'm incredibly happy with this whole roster. Can't wait for it to release.

I hope: that psuedomelanistic tigers can have white base in addition to the orange base... and by extension cross foxes could have more variation in their lighter markings? Like ranging from white to the typical orange to brown.
I know they're controversial but I like color morphs. :)

I feel like the Herman's Tortoise is too small for habitats, especially since Frontiers smallest requirement for habitat species is 180m. It would be lost so easily. I don't think I've seen one over 6 inches (15 cm). I think exhibits are a good choice for this species

Alright... I have mixed feelings about this pack.

The takin was on my personal essential wishlist and I'm so happy about it ! I'm also excited about the wolverine and the wisent although I could have lived without them.

The swan is a nice surprise as we need more birds. However, let's be honest, it's not really a zoo animal. I will use it to decorate my ponds but there are dozens of birds I would have prefered to get in a zoo game.

The wild boar and the Hermann's tortoise are meh. I never considered the wold boar as a necessary addition but I can't deny it was requested. Now that we have it, I might use it. The Hermann's tortoise is not the most exciting exhibit animal but I guess having a smaller tortoise will be useful.

The sloth bear, well. It is a nice animal but it was not really needed IMO when we already have two asian bears. It was my least desired of the 3 remaining bear species. Maybe I will warm up to it when I see it...

The saiga is a bad choice. Proboscis monkey 2.0. I'm the biggest ungulate lover out there but the saiga is barely kept in zoos and does apparently not do well in captivity. To be fair, Cologne Zoo had them for several years until 2009 so it's not totally unrealistic I guess... But why pick a species that is barely kept in captivity when we don't even have a common Asian antelope in the game yet? This should have been the nilgai or the blacbuck or a muntjac.

So, 1 animal that I really wanted. 3 I'm also excited about. 2 meh. 2 I'm not happy about. Not a bad pack but could have been better.

Bald Eagle or Snowy Owl in the walkthrough exhibit
It still amazes me to see that people really would consider bald eagles as a WE animal. They are very dangerous, I’ve worked with BEs and I can tell you they are very dangerous. I’ve been in an aviary with a snowy owl who hit me multiple times, it was pick on the new guy day and didn’t hurt that much but still don’t think would be appropriate to let guests close to them.
I do agree that attractions are a must for the future of PZ.
Maybe with the swan, this will be the foundation for waterfowl in the future.

Yeah there's definitely birds that could fit in WE, but not Raptors, in addition to aggression they would be type of birds to build custom big aviary for.

So if we ever get Raptors in PZ, I hope they come in form of a habitat animal

Well...that's something I guess. The sloth bear and swan are the only ones in this pack I'm remotely looking forward to. Everything else is just...very, very, very meh. Well, the takin sits somewhere in the middle - not an animal I was really desperate for but at least one I'll probably use. I can't believe they're making us pay for the wisent, it's just like the blue wildebeest; should have been an anniversary animal. Still no blackbuck! Instead we have the saiga. I feel the same way about the saiga as I feel about nearly every super rare in captivity species. And to everyone saying "at least it's unique", is it? How is it more unique than any other antelope? They all look wildly different from each other. There's no new challenge in building for it.

Anyway, the most exciting part of all this for me is the swan. Not because I'm going to build deliberate, unique habitats for it - I'm not - but because I can now actually put something in the ponds and lakes I like to dot around my zoos. Here's hoping for a pelican next year, too.

I feel comfortable that this isn't our last pack, at least. It would be a bit like going out with a whimper instead of a bang.

A great pack!
Love it all!
Personally I like to see unique looking animals in the game as well, and so I'm very happy with the Saiga too, and curious to see the tortoise!

The new shop seems fantastic and more Tiger colors are great ..... Despite all unhappy things going on ,there has been done great work!(y)(y)

I really like how all the animals in the pack are looking, I may not use a lot of them, but for me, any species is a valuable addition to the game, because you never know who may really appreciate the inclusion of some of these species, I know for sure that some European-themed zoos will certainly be able to expand a bit further with animals like the Wisent, Wild Boar, Wolverine, Mute Swan and Hermann's Tortoise. All these animals were also above 100 on the 2023 meta wishlist, so there was a great request for all these species, it also shows the Planet Zoo team really reads that list.

Other than Latin America and Antarctica, I think our regional DLCs will be done after that
