🐾Planet Zoo: Tropical Pack arriving 4 April🐾

There is some truth to that. But what drags SA down really badly is the almost complete lack of its most essential animal group : monkeys
Its like africa without zebras and antelopes or australian without kangaroos
but, South America does have a monkey? The capuchin...

Meta-wishlist cannot be a benchmark for what the community wants because it was conceived on the wrong principles of composition. The number of votes for an animal was extracted from everyone's personal list. Only very few have placed the Tasmanian Devil, for example, as the first animal they want to appear in the game. For many, the Tasmanian Devil is perhaps in the middle or even at the end of the list. But because it comes first by the number of appearances in everyone's lists, the Tasmanian Devil gives the impression that it is the animal that the community wants the most. It was easy for each member of the community to psychologically suggest to himself that the priority animals of each are the ones given by the order in the wishlist.
When Frontier started to take into account the hierarchy of wishlist animals, they mistakenly believed that they were fulfilling the wishes of the majority of this community. Following that list will continue to lead to a wave of disappointments.
The meta-wishlist never worked that way. You would provide the 20-25 animals you want, period. You would not provide them by order of preference.

Yeah, 1, thats why i said it lacks it almost completely.
There's only one zebra though. I don't think there are any antelope species outside of Africa. Although I agree that we need more monkeys even if I personally could take or leave them. I could say that Africa south of the Sahara is lacking in canid representation. We only have the Wild Dog...

Honestly, I do not get the disappointment with this pack.
I agree that the pack is getting a lot of undeserved criticism. The two toed vs three toed sloth outrage in particular is kind of ridiculous to me tbh and i don't mind at all that the species they choose is the brown throated sloth, i'm just happy we'll get a sloth.
It's almost has if everyone has their own individual priorities. I'm glad you two are happy with it, but for those of us that aren't, our criticisms and disappointment are just as valid as your praise. I could just as easily as that I don't get the excitement and that the praise is undeserved.

Regarding the sloth, I don't understand what's so confusing. Many of us are animal nerds, and zoo nerds, and both, and our preferences lie in species that are actually held in captivity. Three-toed sloths aren't. If you don't care about the exact sloth species, then why do you care that others would prefer a different species?

Ok hear me out, but for those who disappointed by the Sloth species choice, I can tell you that probably in the future we would see another sloth, because all the criticism about the sloth, so I can tell you that probably Two-toed sloth would come to the game at some point

Now about the dlc, I get where people are coming from with the criticism about the Tropical Pack, listen every dlc that we going to get or every pack that we already got would have a criticism, which it means there will be packs that you would love and there will be packs that you would like less.but I'm sure to telling you it, but not everything is surrounding by you and we can't think only about ourselves. For example even the most requested dlc, Aviary Pack if we will ever get dlc like that even this dlc would have a criticism, for example I would love to see more birds in PZ, because they are very lack. But I don't want to see an full pack with birds I would be really happy for those who want to see more birds, I also want to see more birds yeah don't get me wrong I just don't really into a full pack with birds. But as I said I still would buy it and I'm sure, I also would have fun with dlc like that and I also would give to dlc like that a chance who knows it can be one of my fav packs, even though I have my doubts if we will see even an Aviary Pack (I just use that as an example).

So to sum up,what i trying to say is that you firstly need to give a chance to the dlc, and then decide if you find on it something that would be useful for you or not, and for example I never use anything from Arctic Pack, really!
But I still have it, and to support frontier. And also maybe in the future you would find a use in animal/piece/pack. I'm still really looking forward to see this pack, I'm 100% I would find a lot of use there, and even if you don't find it's ok! Because again Frontier don't looking on what is everyone's priority, and also if you don't find anything in this pack well, you don't have a lot to wait until a new dlc, and maybe in the next dlc you would find useful stuff in it!Anyway, hope you all still exciting for the dlc!🦥

So, now that I've slept on it, I think the Tropical Pack is a fairly good, all things considered. These are my thoughts, including a ranking of the animals:

Red river hog - 9/10
- A colourful and commonly-kept wild pig that should theoretically be able to be mixed with lots of other tropical and savannah species from Africa; definitely my top choice.
Fossa - 8/10
- A new family within the Carnivora is now represented, with a species I have seen a number of times and always enjoy seeing. A very solid option.
Asian water monitor - 7/10
- Definitely one of the finer 'reskin' choices; the fact that it adds underwater swimming is great. Maybe not the most original choice, but in Europe they are more commonly kept than the Nile monitor, so they have that going for them.
Lar gibbon - 5/10
- Not a bad animal in itself, but surely there could have been a monkey or bird that would fit instead. I'll probably use the lar a bit, but still would have preferred something like a spider monkey or, say, the ocellated turkey (which could be easily made from the peafowl).
Brown-throated sloth - 2/10
- Still disappointed with this being chosen over one of the two-toed sloths. Trying to think positively, at least we know sloths are possible, and (hopefully) their babies won't be visible, so I won't have to pretend they can breed.

Plants - Really looking forward to the pitcher plants especially; I wonder if they were added because Chester Zoo hold the UK national collection for these plants. The Rafflesia cannot be cultivated (it is a parasite of a single very specific vine), but I can just pretend it is a concrete plant, so no harm done.

Building set - I remember very early on (soon after the game came out) that I wanted to see an Angkor Wat building set. It isn't quite perfect, but there are a lot of very useful pieces. It's probably one of the better building sets, in my opinion.

Were the brown-throated sloth swapped out for a two-toed sloth, and the lar gibbon had an alternative (preferably South American) primate, this would have been one of my favourite packs so far.

To those saying yay this new monitor.

Nile monitor:

Asian water monitor:

But also consider the way the nile monitor looks in-game:

The colours are way too saturated, its patterning doesn't closely resemble a real nile monitor and the texture quality is average for a base game reptile (ie not the best).

FIKqb2i.png

Compare that to the small glimpse of the Asian water monitor we've gotten - it's in a completely different league.

Is the Asian water monitor the most unique possible varanid choice? Absolutely not. But through providing an improved alternative to the subpar Nile monitor of the base game as well as a much more widespread and typical Asian monitor, I'd consider it a pretty great choice for a "reskin" species and definitely not a redundant pick. Plus, we may not have gotten the push for deep diving monitors without it.

The meta-wishlist never worked that way. You would provide the 20-25 animals you want, period. You would not provide them by order of preference.
But, psychologically and involuntarily, when you make a list of preferences, you establish a hierarchy. And the argument that the list posted by everyone does not represent a personal hierarchy does not change the fact that the wishlist does not reflect the primary preferences of the majority of community members. Rather, common general requirements such as flying birds or South American monkeys reflect a general preference. There are many members of the community who take advantage of the wishlist to vocally promote their preferences. Perhaps a successful DLC would contain one animal from each category requested by the community.

Your argument is valid. But wouldn't it be better then, to fix the first one. Instead of giving us a second one with a prettier skin

My point was, people complaining about no bird after just getting a bird is seemingly ridiculous. We should definitely have more birds, but I’m a bit more patient about it.
Those people requesting birds is very reasonable as the game only has less than 10 birds after launching for more than 3 years. Also, bird is a big part of a zoo. Apparently, animal choice of this dlc can be more diverse if frontier choose a bird e.g. ibis instead of a monitor.

It would be, but it's pretty clear at this point that Frontier isn't going to go back to fix base game animals (and even if they did, the nile monitor would probably be low on their priority list given few people are complaining about it compared to animals like the lion and wolf), so this is better than nothing.

"doesn't frontier see that animal A is on the top 10 of the list?" "according to the meta-wishlist frontier should have..." "Animal Y is on the first place of the wishlist so frontier will include it on the next DLC"
It is ridiculous how people genuinely believe that frontier carries the holy (bible)meta-wishlist all the time when making decisions. They don't. That list was just a fun fan-based exercise. Whatever frontier decides on their office is up to them. That meta-wishlist is just spreading false expectations and frustration among the community because some people are not capable to see things rationally.

I have no hope that frontier will fix old models. I just hope that they can give deep diving to Nile monitor.
