Planet Zoo - Update 1.1.1

It reminds me of people who say “I don’t like zoos but safari parks are ok” even though historically - I accept that this is now changing in many cases - safari parks often did not have a focus on conservation or education and only kept a small number of species, not always in appropriate environments or social groupings.

It’s a well meaning sentiment but one that is deeply flawed.

Okay, so, since this update, it is now MUCH harder to obtain high quality animals in Sandbox mode, as I can no longer buy and sell to refresh the market... because for some reason, despite this never occurring in Sandbox previously, a bunch of animals are now bought with injuries, which means I have to /place them in my zoo/ before I can get rid of them. This is extremely time consuming and inconvenient, especially for a SANDBOX mode. Please revert this, give us back the ability to buy animals WITHOUT injuries, solely, on Sandbox, or at LEAST make it toggleable, that way I don't have to wait literally 3 hours before I can FINALLY get a gold-ranked wolf. This is kind of ridiculous.

Thank you, i hope the fix for work zones is what I complained about in the issue tracker, I gotta check now.
If what you complained about is that the list showing you the names of buildings and habitats in the work zone were greyed out and not displayed, that is what was fixed.

If it's something else...dunno, as the above is the only UI bug for work zones in 1.1.0 that I am aware of.

This confused me a bit, this isnt a NEW thing that these screens etc arent working properly, you are just now getting messages to tell you they are not working properly. Not sure what needs fixing other than the placement of education in your zoo. After the patch I had about 30 notifications, so I went around and fixed them all, now guess what, i dont get notifications anymore. But sure if you want to turn them off and leave your education setup broken, go for it. Please dont come back with "it was working before the patch" it wasnt, you just didnt know it wasnt.
I gues you misunderstood me, what i was saying was that we now cant have education corners in our zoo where we have education screens with all our animals like you see in real life zoo's because if you do you get these messages because they are not close to the habitats. Also you get these messages if you sink a speaker into the ground, it shouldnt matter if its below ground or inside a piece of wood etc. Its still next to the habitat.

Ok, run down for this one.... I made a 60 min this time....
  • there seem to be real improvement in stability of the game and less zoombie behavior (zoombie keeper, zoombie pregnancy not seen in my test). Did get a zombie snake (anaconda) that was dehydrated in an exhibit, call keeper button wasnt working too... weird weird. Reset by tranfert to the trade center and back = fix it.
  • exhibit animal social tab is also a bit weirded out. You get the %, not the integer numbers anymore. View list does what ? Sometimes it opens management/animal, sometimes does nothing.... Anyway. Inconsistante UI = weird.
  • I got a poor little panda that have fallen into the ground "escaped" - everyone flee in fear waahhhhhhh! (well tought to deactivate the refund beforethe fix, but you still get $$ penalty when the inspector is there, maybe take that one off as well, for now).
  • Keeper stat still not updating information on the job done/poop cleaned/food filled. Follow them around looking at them work, stat of job done stays the same. It updates on reload.... or something like that.

Still, I think it's back to playable if the zoo is moderatly small... that's what I wanted for xmas! :D

Good idea for that option, also would like to see the refresh list changed, when we click refresh list it should simply refresh not having to buy in order to refresh.

Same problems, also having lots of animals going dehydrated while they are right next to water source.

I use to get that one in habitats too, didn't during this test - I didn't play that long tho, maybe it's still there, but i never got dehydrated in an exhibit before, that's new, I think. Your habitat animal starving next to food or dehydrated while swimming, I call them zoombie! lol!

I don't think Frontier is being deliberately obtuse about it, and I think they have good intentions, I just think they're a little misguided.

For one thing, you can't say "polar bears need x amount of space to be truly happy in captivity" because very few real zoos are able to achieve that. To me, it kind of poopoos on real-life zoos that are doing important work with polar bears and other animals, and working with other zoos and the AZA to try and ensure their polar bears have the best possible care. Polars bears are at an extremely high risk, because of climate change, and we need zoos to ensure they survive they pull through on the other side. As it stands, the space requirements for the polar bear in Planet Zoo send the wrong message. We don't want a generation of people going to zoos and thinking "these polar bears would be better off in the melting Arctic than they are here" because they might have heard the wrong message.

Halving the requirement feels like a weak compromise, but I'll take it.
That was my point - sending the wrong message. I have no doubt they had good intentions when doing so, but the end result is anything but a good message. There is still an opportunity for them to fix it.

At the end of the day our intentions don't mean anything unless the result is good enough.

To be honest half the original amount, the original amount itself, or double the original is all the same to me. As long as it is inconsistent with the rest of the animals, it doesn't matter how much it was lowered.

I would understand if they require twice the space a grizzly bear needs, but nothing more. This in itself is enough a challenge as well as a good message for welfare and conservation.

Isn't this a valid notification? If it's below the ground it's sound is muffled/not properly working. Yes it's next to the habitat but not like it's supposed to be..

Why would it be ? In theme parks i seen speakers sinked into the ground covered up with tiny holes, in theme parks i seen speakers covered up in all kinds of ways. In Planet Coaster it works so why the change now all of a sudden in this game. Besides it is a game. If they want usto have visible speakers then atleast give us smaller speakers instead of these big chunky ones give us speakers like they have in real life the small tiny speakers and flat speakers even or like in real life give us screens that already have speakers.

There's a big difference with covering something up and putting it below the ground..
Imo, it shouldn't even work when you put something underground.

Why should something buried, be something that functions the same as above the ground ?

You can still have your screens too far away from your habitat and speakers underground they will just not do anything, like they didnt before, you just get told about it. Turn of the notifications and you can live in peaceful ignorance about it.

You guys do realize this is a Video Game right?
I don't know what exactly you were referencing to but personally I like how Frontier pays attention to detail, it definitely increases immersion.

However if you particularly meant the habitat size issue with the polar bears, I agree it is an overkill even with the new values.

So glad they scaled back the space requirements for the polar bears. It makes me want to have them in my game now. 🐇
If people want that hyper-realism, they can increase the size of the habitat themselves.

I would argue that hyper-realism would mean something very different. You can have humane, rich and stimulating polar bear enclosures that are much smaller than the requirements of the game. And that would be hyper-realistic.
