- Date and time for the news item/event: This week
- Title – this should be brief and include the location: Empire Navy honor CMDR Seantier with title of Earl
- Description – This should be no more than 150 words
Earlier this week CMDR Seantier were honored with the Empire Title of Earl for his outstanding service record in the Imperial Navy. Not much is known about our latest Earl, but he has been seen delivering humanitarian aid in several systems. Latest helping out Princess Lavigny-Duval with her humanitarian aid in the Persephone system. Other, more dubious sources, hints of a more darker background for Earl Seantier. Going so far to say that our newest Earl is in fact a Federation Post Commander set to spy on our Navy forces. The Earl him self were not available for comments regarding this matter as he was last seen preparing his ship for an expedition into Alliance space.
- Commander Name: Seantier

PS: It would be nice to see a list, as in Weekly announcement or so, of CMDR reaching the top navy rank - they all worked hard for it.

Empire-wide News

Quiviran Refugees Suffer Outbreak of Disease
It seems that even the good things don't last long for the Quivirans. On the tail of their military defeat, a generous act of goodwill by the supporters of Aisling Duval helped them back on their feet, and Patreus pardoned them for the failures of their government. Unfortunately, limited access to medical care during their flight has lead to an outbreak of treatable diseases among the populace.

Aisling's Angels call on all loyal Imperial citizens to help our Imperial brethren in the People's Quivira for Equality rebuild from the fate they have suffered and regain their health and standing, running missions to delivery much needed medical supplies to the scattered populations in Persephone, Summerland, and Quivira itself, lest they be forced into servitude after all their trials simply to stay alive.

Title: Benapus to Nganji, Takeover Declared!

Article:

Formal hostilities have been declared against the CMDR’s of C.O.N.T.R.A.I.L over their resources along the Benapus – Nganji trade run. A famously lucrative route; it was once held in a state of protection by the security wing of C.O.N.T.R.A.I.L CMDR’s, but after the slow and nefarious intrusion by members of the BBfA, it has since been closed to all not directly related to the conflict. All pilots in and around the area are urged to fly with extreme caution, as misidentified targets will be treated as hostile and killed on site.

CMDR Tomski of the BBfA had this to say, “Since yesterday evening at 2100, the Nganji - Benapus area is until further notice a colony of the BBfA! Only pilots of our own squadron will be tolerated, Contrail or the FB will not. We will shoot all of their pilots without warning.”

Since this declaration, little has come in the way of fighting, only small skirmished engagements. The CMDR’s of C.O.N.T.R.A.I.L remain optimistic yet cautious, knowing that an enforcement of BBfA’s imperialistic decree is an almost complete certainty.

Date: For Immediate Release
Location: Liaedin

Headline: Terrorism claims against Wolzan, Shadow Navy denounced by Crimson Fortune Company

The Crimson Fortune Company salutes Commander Wolzan and the Shadow Navy for their efforts to keep the Liaden system in a fair balance of power. A spokeswoman for Crimson Fortune stated, "As you all know, our influence was waning in Liaden, we believe this destabilizing work was done by thuggish supporters of the Empire... possibly the East India Company. That was when The Shadow Navy stepped in."

The EIC are accused of blockading the system and attacking any who entered, killing Federal, Imperial and independent pilots alike.

With the blockade now over Wolzan's team appear to have faded back into the shadows. Whether they return to Liaedin or set their eyes toward other goals is yet to be seen.

Title: Underground fighting club rocks Aulin
Description: At approximately 2100 hours a slew of armed Eagles began to congregate towards the rear of Aulin Enterprise station and proceeded to take part in a series of 1 on 1 fights. Much whooping and cheering was heard over comms chatter for a little over 2 hours at which point there were several congratulatory messages directed at CMDR Bodmans who appeared to have been the victor of the organised carnage.

Shortly after 2 Imperial Clippers joined the fray and the battle descended into a chaotic free for all of dog-fighting around the station's central superstructure.

Snatches of comms chatter caught by passing pilots make reference to a "Friday Fight Club" along with rumours of involvement by the pilot collective known as "XYZ".

Station security have confirmed that several fines were issued but there was no damage done to the station and also stated that "This old girl can withstand a few out of control Eagles crashing into her!"

Is this an isolated incident or the start of a new trend? Only time will tell.

Title: Battle of Nganji, Freedom Fighters BBfA!

Article:

The war for free trading around Benapus and Nganji once more escalated. First galactic battle with over 20 fighters was held in Nganji. BBfA was brutaly attacked, losses on both sides inevitable. Beraeved families home needed to be informed about their brave soldiers died in the "The Battle of Nganji".

President Zylark of Contrail said: "Let us get one thing straight: Nganji - Benapus - whenever profits go down, we close it (the route)."

In an interview CMDR Tomski from BBfA made it clear: "In the name of all free traders, BBfA is fighting for their right so everybody in this galaxy can trade peacefully on this important route!"

Our correspondents expects that this major battles around Benapus/Nganji will go on for the next days.

Title: Attempt on Imperial Senator's Life
Description: Yesterday Senator Drew was spotted traveling incognito through uncharted systems, escorted by an equally mysterious group of combateers representing all three major powers.

The Senator's vessel came under attack, but the attempt on his life was thwarted by his companions.

It is unknown if this attack was incidental, or a deliberate assassination ploy. Senator Drew appears to have some tangential connections of unknown strength to Senator Kahina Tijani Loren, who was lately called to Achenar.

Asked about the encounter, the Senator answered shortly: “Trifle with a Senator at your own great peril, rank does not preclude an ability to deal death from the cockpit of a starship. My compatriots joined me shortly after the fight broke out and it ended poorly for the agressors.”

Senator Drew wasn’t available for a further statement but it has to be assumed that the Empire will look into the matter closely.

Title: All we want is peace
Description:

The Independents of LFT 133 have been making strenuous efforts to expand in to the Teshub system.

The lone planet in the system is a natural paradise which was first discovered by an ancestor of Commander Kerrash in 2276, when his FSD drive malfunctioned and he was forced to make a crash landing on the planet.

A pirate clan, known as the 'Ronin of Amarak', has set its sights on the system and are attempting to take it over. Whilst this does present the new pilots with plenty of target practice, the causality rate is starting to increase. Local authorities are raising a 'call to arms' to help bring the system back to a state of peace.

Stabilizing the system will bring the potential of a new station in the system and it will send a strong message that the Pilot Federation will defend its pilots wherever they are.

P.S. Credit for this story goes to Cmdr. FireyToad I merely edited it to fit the limits. Thanks Toad

proposal for reporting

This isn't an actual news item per se that I have to propose, but more like a journalistic challenge. (And I don't know where else to propose this to the Galnet team)

Currently there's quite a few senators, famous and infamous characters that the media follows in the empire (makes sense, royalty attracts paparazzis). But there are less famous figures on the federal and alliance side of things. The public would benefit from knowing a bit more about the alliance and federal power brokers.

For instance, how about an update on the alliance workings, since they're still working out kinks on the treaties that unite their system? Maybe a popular politician is trying to take credit for the alliance successes around Lave, builds some media cred through that?
On the federal side of things, it seems some expansionists were remarkably sneaky in the last hundred year or two. I see systems that are under federal control within two jumps of Achenar, which would worry many imperial citizens in the light of the cold war boiling up a bit. Historically, how did that happen? What if reporters were to dig up dirt and unearth some discreet federal power brokers or corporation heads with a hidden anti-imperial expansion agenda? Folks trying to stay out of the spotlight of course... This would give the community a federal mirror-figure (or two) to Senator Patreus perhaps? (And maybe help his credibility, he can't be the only warmonger in the galaxy)

Just a friendly proposal to put some media spotlight on new faces, good and bad. Alliance and Federation. Good job galnet team btw.

Title: Fustration on the Frontier!

Description: Several commanders were recently spotted ramming the Christopher Mines outpost in Kalana but they managed to boost away before the system authorities could apprehend them. When the outpost management was questioned they explained that prior to the incident one of the group had requested access to the station's ventilation system to recover an item that they claimed had fallen into one of the vents following a cargo hatch malfunction.

GalNet tracked down commanders Ratking15, Red Wizzard and Wishblend who explained that they had been carrying an Unknown Artefact that was suspected to have been stolen from a Federation Military Convoy. These items are known to degrade ship components and when the cargo hatch malfunctioned and the object fell into the ventilation system the commanders immediately contacted the outpost authorities to seek to recover the item, not wishing to expose the outpost to the artefacts unusual radiation. But they refused to tell the management what it was as no one knows what it was still and in fear of them refusing to let them undock so the Federation could apprehend them.

When the request was denied they were left no choice but to tactically but in a fustrated fashion ram the outpost until the vent cover detached and they could recover the Unknown Artefact. Once it had been recovered they left the system immediately as security forces closed in on them. The commanders apologised to the Christopher Mines outpost regretting any damage caused but the outpost has yet to comment.

Angels Offer Assistance in Securing Imperial Space
Aisling's Angels would like to express gratitude for the support of the Lavigny family in these difficult times. We completely understand how limited Arissa's reach is nowadays, and why she had to call upon independent pilots to help maintain order in the Empire rather than using her own forces. The goal of saving loyal imperial citizens from the predation of criminals is a noble one. One good turn deserves another, and the Angels volunteer our efforts to the cause.

With the humanitarian crisis under control, our forces are now available to commit fully to the cause. Working together, we can surely can discover why violence and law-breaking has been on the rise in the Persephone area. Already we have leads that access to a ready supply of illicit armaments has played a strong role in inspiring the criminally inclined to pursue their nefarious dreams. With further investigation, we can surely discover the source of these weapons. Angels are no stranger to fighting the criminal element, and are sure we can succeed here. After all, our efforts to maintain order in Cemiess saw us disrupt more than one powerful criminal organization, and that was without the financial incentive Arissa is providing today.

While I think Galnet is a great feature with excellent content I want to voice my support that there needs to be more equal coverage of goings-on amongst the factions. As a staunch supporter of the Empire myself I sometimes even forget there are two other major factions out there!

And surely Patreus, while no ahem... "Angel", is not alone nor perhaps the worst in showing and wielding his strength. It seems to me to be a case of too much news on one individual having a disproportional detrimental effect on public image. I'm sure the Federation has its' fair share of shady characters in high places, it is the Federation after all that is meant to have a reputation for endemic corruption and a general lack of values. I want some journalistic exposes on some of these figures, we need a Glenn Greenwald or Bob Woodward equivalent desperately!

Excerpt from from Newsletter #22:

The media drives a culture of celebrity. Top ranking politicians, social commentators, entertainers and super-rich all command a great deal of media attention. This provides a massive distraction for the populace, to the extent that foreign wars conducted by the Federation on their behalf get little media attention.

Lets get a look at some of this "media attention"!

Title: Wolf 1230 Dynamic Industries in expansion.

Description: Continues collaboration between the Wolf 1230 Dynamic Industries and the private corporation DaVinci.
After taking full control of the system WOLF 1230 at the expense of the Federation, the Wolf 1230 Dynamic Industries continued its business growth by bringing the system in a state of economic boom that has attracted new investors and business activity.
New investments and the concrete support of DaVinci Corp., led the Dynamic Industries to expand its business in NENEXO, industrial and mining center of the Federation; despite the absence of stations directly controlled by D.I. , the corporation has become the most influential faction of the system in a few weeks and does not seem to have plans to slow down its activities.
Sources closeto the DaVinci, assert that the objective of Dynamic Industries is to take full control of NENEXO in order to have direct access to raw materials needed for terraforming of two planets to WOLF 1230 and finally give a home to 400 million people who live in the system.
Group Name: DaVinci Corp.

Gilya Rebellion Causes Headaches For Halsey

Gilya Rebellion Causes Headaches For Halsey

In a development sure to shake confidence in the already beleaguered office of President Jasmina Halsey, yet another outlying system now threatens to succeed from the Federation fold.

Ever since the Mars Congress pushed through measures to regulate the arms industry decades ago, the Gilya system has suffered waves of political disquiet; Once host to one of the Galaxy's most prestigious weaponsmiths, Gilya's high-tech economy was ruined by controversial measures designed to limit civilian access to military-grade weapons. When advanced arms manufacturing ended much of the population was plunged into years of poverty and discontent.

Despite moves by the ruling Gilya Vision Organisation to rejuvenate the sector economy over the years, popular support has steadily shifted to the upstart Gilya Law Party, whose promise to leave the Federation and reopen Gilya's weaponsmiths is proving highly attractive to the masses.

Reports are mounting that independent Commanders are descending upon Gilya to take sides in the Gilya Civil War, although whether the majority seek to support President Halsey, or are instead working to restart an arms industry considered rare in its quality throughout populated space, is not clear to this reporter at the time of writing.

League of Hel and Vikings in Space?

Grimnir Allfadderung, one of the Leaders of the League of Hel Confederacy, finally stated excitement and confusion about the latest surge of traders, explorers and warriors, pushing the influence and wealth of the League of Hel to other systems.
"We were a small unionist group, doing quite well without being the most influential group in our system, when suddenly a group of independant Warriors joined our cause and started pushing our influence."

The group, known as Cosmic State, have been titled by the local inhabitants of the system as "Space Vikings". Donar Leifson, a local miner, said the following when questioned:
"I have no idea where they where coming from, but all of a sudden, there is a bunch of combat ships in the system, they call them "Dragonboats" and "woooosh" we get wealthy and new equipment and stuff. And the Mead! I have no idea how they managed it, but there is Mead everywhere! Sure, they seem to look barbaric, with their beards, drinking all the Mead and some of them even carry axes, but they tend to stick to themselves, while being honest, good guys."

The League of Hel itself has seen a surge and boost in income in the last couple of weeks, that they even managed to expand to another system and, with the help of those...Vikings, were able to establish a solid power base there too.

"Seriously, Vikings? Today? Isn’t that outdated? Ah well, to Hel with that, they care for us and defend us and seem to be eager to protect us against any ill-doings, quite contrary to the big guys out there.”

“We have since decided to assimilate them into our local militia.”

Barnard's star - Diplomats and representatives stand for peace
Representatives from all over space arrived today in Barnard's Star. Lance Dion-Tanaka from princess Aisling's Angels prepared a newsroom that was joined by an eclectic who's who: famous LiquidCatnip of EIC, FatHaggard of the federal Merchant Marines and Rhea of the independent XYZ Black Fleet joined the impromptu diplomatic meet.
Their statement on the news: "We come pay our respects for the loss of your president, and in these trying times to extend a peaceable hand to reassure federation citizens that no ill will is intended by its neighbors. That current troubles need not be premise to undesirable conflict. We commend lady Winters in her swift action towards maintaining order and wish her the best of luck."
The Empire contingent had few comments about Hudson's suggestion of Imperial involvement: "A baseless assertion undoubtedly motivated by grief. There is simply no motive or evidence to support it."
