System: Jotun

While Cosmic State is probably the most prominent Space Viking power in the universe, they are far from being the only ones.

Lately, a small clan of vikings from the cold north have assembled together to bring mead, ale, axes and viking combat to Jotun, home of the fabled giants from the old earth mythology.

Although the giants are no more, Jotun is still a hostile environment, perfect for honing the skills of a warrior.

Unfortunatly for the “Sons of Ymir”, Li Yong-Rui as recently started to try to claim Jotun for himself. Little does he know of the strong-willed denizes of this dangerous system. He might expand there, but he will never own the hearts and minds of the mighty vikings calling this system home.

Grimnir Allvadderung, CEO of Hammer Arms has recently announced to help the Sons of Ymir against their struggle with Li Yong-Rui, stating that he will “embrace any viking or worthy fighter out there” and has said to hereby claim Jotun as “officially under the protection of Hammer Arms and Allvadderung himself.”
To help with their efforts, Allvadderung is said to have send his ordo militant, the vikings of Cosmic State.

Interestingly, this seems to be not much of a deal considering his announcement in helping out Li Yong-Rui. Insiders aren’t sure if this is just a ruse of Allvadderung or if Allvadderung and Li Yong-Rui did had some secret talks behind the scenes about this.

Very misleading for the article that was published today, about a new Power called "The Armada" forming in Hudson space. There's nothing in the article to indicate it's fan fiction, and with the term "Power" being used to describe the group, the assumption is that it's a full fledged power that will take control of systems from Hudson. These articles need to be curated a bit more closely to make sure proper terminology is used.

This is a bit more of a suggestion than news, but would it be possible to have a monthly roundup from Universal Cartographics giving an update on how many new systems/bodies have been discovered in the past week/month along with any interesting exploration events?

Conflict over Manite

The spokesperson for the Workers of Manite Labour Union, has informed GalNet that the people of Manite represented by the WMLU will not accept exploitation of their home world by a foreign company calling itself Purple Central Industry. PCI, a corporation based out of the system Pand, has chosen Manite as a destination for future operations. Pre-emptive operations within Manite ahead of the scheduled political entrance of PCI is occurring through the PCI-Syndicate with military backing from the mercenary XYZ Black Fleet.

“Our forefathers laboured hard to turn Manite into what it is today, a cooperative society granting freedom and a life in dignity to every individual on the planet. We will not give up our way of life without a fight, especially not in favor of a reckless corporation that never did anything for the benefit of our people, nor has earned a place in our society. We, the people of Manite, will not be slaves to their greed for profit!
Today I have called on Valentina Tereschkova, spokesperson of ENOSIS, for aid to protect us from the violent invasion of our system by PCI.”

Valentina had this to say when interviewed by GalNet:
“We have helped many communist systems in the past to resist falling under corporate dictatorship. This case seems to be one of the worst examples of a corporation disrespecting the most basic human rights of an entire world’s population. I will call on the space-faring branch of our cooperative, Communism Interstellar, to help the people of Manite. Moreover I have already sent out diplomats to our allies across inhabited space to ask for further aid in this conflict. PCI will soon find out that invading Manite against the will of its rightful owners will be less profitable and far more costly than what their anticipated profits suggested.”

Whilst negotiators are remaining tight-lipped about the diplomatic discussions there is evident frustration from the CI representative with the bellicosity and intransigence demonstrated by PCI thus far. By way of illustration, the following dialogue was recorded.

CMDR Jane Turner said:
We would be willing to assist your expansion amitions from Manite, subject to a non-aggression pact and the guarantee that XYZ Black fleet is kept away. We happily assisted in a similar enterprise to build a new space station in a previously inhabited system in a cooperative venture with the Mercs of Mikunn

CMDR Sloan Kettering said:
How can we make ourselves any clearer? Any proposal that does not include CI leaving Manite is unacceptable to us. This is how diplomacy works: The strong have leverage, the weak do not. We have demonstrated the vast superiority in comabt of our pilots. We will not budge on the Manite point because we do not have to. We are willing to offer concessions in return but you have rejected our overtures. CI in Manite is over. If you continue with your current stance we are eager to escalate things further. The only acceptable outcomes to us are you leaving Manite.

CMDR Jane Turner said:
Its a great pity you have taken this intractable stance, there are good candidates for terraforming in the surrounding systems that would have been a great joint goal.

LittleJP said:
Let's get this party started. I have a fully kitted out FDL, Let's roll.

Two brave ships of the Black Fleet lurking at the back of the station waiting to ram traders

Sources on the ground say that the situation is worsening, with an attempted blockade at Irens Dock in the Manite system, with several large ships being destroyed by the station and a number of CI traders being interdicted and destroyed by the so-called "Black Fleet".

24/6/3301 - 28/6/3301 (or whenever the next Zeta Fornacis civil war inevitably hits) - Zeta Fornacis/Empire wide/Galaxy wide

Civil War lands at Zeta Fornacis yet again!

It seems the locals of the Zeta Fornacis system can’t stop fighting amongst themselves! There have been no fewer than four civil wars in the system in the last few months, and maybe more that our correspondent was not aware of.

A factor that may have influenced this most recent civil war is Zemina Torval’s recent influence on the system. The Imperial Slaves in Zeta Fornacis tend not leave the system, as the system’s refineries are an obvious place where the labour is required, and many clans would prefer to have their members return quickly after the term of servitude ends. Zemina’s influence has put many groups in fear that their loved ones in debt will be shipped off, while others see it as a new opportunity for trade and prosperity; this has violently re-opened the ‘slavery debate’ there.

These largely are jostles in station ownership between the factions in the system: mainly two local companies and the imperial assembly there, who all in turn represent different portions of inhabitants of the system. The population mainly lives on the terraformed world in the system, and the main economy is centred on agriculture. What is unusual about it is that it is not run on the massive Imperial-slave run plantations owned by patrons that is common throughout the Empire, but instead they are divided to the family clans of the world, each staking out their own land and raising livestock on it, which was in place before the system was joined to the Empire, and remains around despite the system otherwise adopting traditional Imperial governance, with a Senator and Patrons all the way down to Imperial Slaves, who in pre-Imperial times would be captured members of clans that had not been ransomed back and forced to work for their captors. Now the Imperial Slaves generally are more similar to other areas of the Empire, as voluntary servitude to strike off a debt, and the majority believe this is preferable to the old ways, especially as the several groups within the system disagreed on slavery.

This clan system is often the cause of local conflict, as the borders are pushed close to each other, territorial disputes are common, as is a bizarre local custom known as the ‘duffing’ where a clan will sneak in and steal the livestock of a neighbour; these raids have the tendency to turn violent, but the natives seem to keep this custom and have turned it into some kind of honourable tradition. One clan chief (and patron) stated so much as “If you can’t keep your livestock secure, you don’t have the honour of keeping them yours.”

Another factor that may have influenced this most recent civil war is Zemina Torval’s recent influence on the system. The Imperial Slaves in Zeta Fornacis tend not leave the system, as the system’s refineries are an obvious place where the labour is required, and many clans would prefer to have their members return quickly after the term of servitude ends. Zemina’s influence has put many groups in fear that their loved ones in debt will be shipped off, while others see it as a new opportunity for trade and prosperity; this has violently re-opened the ‘slavery debate’.

Due to the closeness of the local corporations to the family clans, the battles have gone interstellar; between the suns of Zeta Fornacis, they vie for power among the stations and jostle for superiority as the Empire Assembly in the system there tries to keep some law and order there.

Emperor's Grace Captures Vargerson

Today the 23rd June 3301, forces loyal to Admiral Brennus stormed Browncoat Refuge, capturing the station on behalf of Rishair Emperor's Grace and Imperial forces took control of all major cities on the planet Miranda II in the Vargerson system. The military action was undertaken to protect the rare and endangered Vargerson Platypus, which was being cruelly exploited by the Communist led Left Party of Vargerson.

Speaking from Sefrys where he is presently a guest of the Mercs of Mikunn, Admiral Brennus declared that the people of Miranda II who are renowned for their love of furry animals, wanted the Vargerson Platypus protecting and their demands had fallen on deaf ears, when the leadership of the Left Party of Vargerson had started a program of imprisoning animal rights activists. Vargerson being deep in Imperial space, it made the need to take control of the system all the more pressing, not only to protect the local wildlife, but to remove the scourge of criminal gangs from the Vargerson system.

System: HE BO

Piracy seems to be on the increase in the Alliance System of HE BO. It appears that the pirate faction of the HE BO Brothers have been acquiring more advanced ships than their usual Sidewinders, Eagles and Cobras. Miners in HE BO's many extraction sites have been reporting an increase of both Diamondbacks Scouts and Imperial Couriers, which have been causing real difficulty with the independent mining community. The main concern appears to be where they's acquiring these new ships. Miners are worried that with the success the HE BO Brothers are having with the new vessels, then the outlaw faction will soon be able to afford something more expensive and deadly.

'For me, it's great! ' says CMDR PhoenixDfire, a prolific Bounty Hunter. 'I'd say business has certainly picked up. But you've got to feel sorry for those miners. Spending days extracting and refining the ore, just to get shaken down at the end of it. They're going to have to increase the security patrols.'

There was no comment from anybody at the Krylov Ring Station.

Patreus loyalists restore stability to Atfero

Today marks the end of a bloody civil war in Atfero between the governing corporate entity Blue General & Co and the local Empire League, with Blue General & Co announcing it has stood down it's corporate security fleets and ceded control of Atfero to the Empire League supported by forces loyal to Senator Denton Patreus.

Atfero was recently identified as a strategic strongpoint for the Senator's operations, with loyalist forces moving in to protect the economic interests of the system. This led to reduced confidence in the security provided by Blue General & Co, who responded by targeting the Senator's vessels in system. Despite this show of strength, Blue General & Co's corporate security forces were grossly outmatched by the Senator's battle-hardened fleets, who quickly quelled the uprising. Blue General & Co executives are expected to face treason charges resulting from the conflict.

CMDR Jmanis Catharg

(Out of Article)
Atfero is a Patreus control system which was ruled by the generic Imperial corporate faction Blue General & Co, and Atfero Empire League is, according to the ingame text, "A member of Senator Patreus' Coterie". When I first got to Atfero, the Empire League didn't have much in the way of influence, but held up to 70% (now 69%) in recent days, triggering the civil war ultimately flipping control of the system to Empire League and making Patreus' influence certain.

It's never late to give a hug

Space is dark, empty and cold - yet Commanders throughout the cluster show a strong affinity to hot spots. And in the heat of battle it happens ever so often that a beam of light goes astray and does not hit what it was intended to hit. While today's sophisticated friend-foe identification systems are well up to their task, they cannot predict every bold manouever Commanders undertake to gain the upper hand.

Mankind always pushed to the limits and we at Faulcon DeLacy see it as our challenge to provide the best equipment for the safety of all pilots. But when you push beyond the limit, remember: If things go wrong you can always communicate and apologize for a shot gone astray. It's never late to give a hug.

Title: Peace restored in Leesti - Alliance retakes control of George Lucas

The Alliance Defence Force has announced today the success of Operation "Twisted Sunshine", a combined strike of the ADF, the Alliance Diplomatic Corps and independent pilot squads to restore peace in the system and take back control of George Lucas Station.

Last week, Commodore Helena Stone had delivered evidence about Reynhardt Intellisys hiring a pirate group to wreak havoc upon the system, which eventually had allowed them to take control of George Lucas. Public protests after the disclosure were countered by Reynhardt with a violent lockdown, causing the ADF to launch the operation.

Stone, who coordinated the operation, told our Galnet News reporter that she has been commissioned to establish a permanent presence in the sector dedicated to protect the people and traders in the sector from piracy and crime.

The Fight For Pancienses

- Date and time for the news item/event: June 26 3301
- Title – this should be brief and include the location: The Fight For Pancienses
- Description – This should be no more than 150 words: In the early weeks of "powerplay", local independent commanders clash with rapidly expanding Imperial powers.
- Commander Name: Cmdr Eran Mintor

In the beginning of June 3301, major "players" of the galaxy began to coalesce their forces, seemingly anticipating the others plans. Soon these "Powers", as they're called now, asked for more support from independent pilots. Many rallied to their calls, aligning with whomever they agreed with the most or had offered the most. In only a few weeks these independents helped spread the influence of these powers by hundreds of light-years.

Each side vied for more wealth and influence than the other and small skirmishes soon broke out. Some even saw like minded commanders come to blows before any cease-fires could be arranged. These mercenaries and loyalists were zealous with their charges.

Thinking ahead, a collective of commanders known as "Lavigny's Legion" decided to push Arissa Lavigny-Duval's influence into an area of space surrounded by independents and near Federation territory, providing a very useful strategic Forward Operating Station.

This system is known as Pancienses. The operation is known as "Operation Key."

At first the push went unnoticed. Over one hundred pilots helped to deliver Imperial reports to Pancienses, claiming the system was under a corrupt government. Federals were busy fighting the Alliance and each other, giving Empire commanders plenty of space to do as they pleased. Many Federals even shrugged off the notion of staving off the Lavigny supporters from Pancienses. Only as the Imperials urged the local minority into war against the then dominant corporation, Social Pancienses Future, did outsiders begin to take notice. Several independent commanders who lived nearby realized the dire situation and informed others of the threat this Forward Operating Station would pose to everyone.

This group of mercenary commanders call themselves the Independent Pilots Consortium, or IPC. Fearing that the Imperial presence would bring turmoil to their home system of Mandhrithar, an independent system only about 35 light-years from Pancienses, it was decided to oppose the expansion. Some other groups offered to spare a few forces and more began to spread the word. Members of the IPC began to collect as much intel as possible while trying to raise awareness of the situation. As the Federals and Alliance realized the risk that the station posed, they refocused their attention from each other and attempted to undermine several systems that Empire Powers were trying to expand their influence to, including systems such as Pancienses and Haroingori. At the same time, Imperials were making moves of their own, signing treaties and calling for all available pilots to report to Pancienses.

The fighting started out slow, but soon pilots from all over the cluster began to flock to Pancienses. Lavigny's Legion was crucial to maintaining a strong organization of Imperial forces, with most of the Imperial pilots flying in wings together; as the combat grew more intense they were determined to stick closer together to support each other and you could even see as many as four or five wings of Lavigny forces patrolling the system. On the other hand, opposition was not getting nearly as much support. Occasional Federal and Alliance wings, such as Dark Echo and Adle's Armada, would fly down but they were also needed at home and elsewhere and therefore could not spend as much time in Pancienses as the otherwise uncontested Empire.

As days went on, thousands and thousands of ships were destroyed, making it one of the bloodiest systems in the region. Imperial Support ships and Shield of Justice members were hunted and destroyed to try to curb the tide but over the weekend a large contingent of Imperial pilots made huge gains in their fight against the system authorities, making it seem almost impossible for the independents to win. Efforts remained but it became increasingly more obvious that the battle was over and the Imperials had won. The outnumbered independent & Federal pilots could only do so much with their hit & run tactics against the Imperial fleets.

During this same time, Zemina Torval took control of a system only about 60 light-years apart from Pancienses. This system is known as Haroingori and will act as a FOS for Torval supporters. It seems the Empire has already drawn the proverbial line in the sand, establishing a front line far from their home-worlds. How these systems will stand the test of time and battle remains to be seen, but it is likely that the area will remain a hotly contested and bloody region for the foreseeable future. The mercenaries of the IPC claim no allegiance to any of the major factions and how they will respond now that they are surrounded by several Empire Powers has not been revealed at this time.

Title: Li Yong-Rui and Arissa Lavigny-Duval Open Embassies

In a press release issued to GalNet this morning, Commanders of the Pilots' Federation
affiliated with both Sirius Corporation and Princess Arissa Lavigny-Duval have announced
the completion of discussions leading towards the imminent preparation of embassies near
each power's territory.

The systems to be used for this trial run are Sietae and Heverduduna. Sietae will
allow Sirius Corporation to obtain a substantial increase on Bounty Hunting income.
Heverduduna will allow Sirius Corporation to gain access to the Imperial Clipper, an asset still
missing from their portfolio. In return, Sirius Corporation's scale will allow substantial
shipyard and outfitting rebates to Commanders aligned to Arissa Lavigny-Duval.

Should this investment be profitable to the Corporation, a well-informed employee of the
Corporation has told GalNet that Sirius will extend the offer of cooperation
to all interested parties.

Imperial Enlightenment Arrives in the Pancienses Sector

20:10 Saturday, June 27, 3301 Holdstock Enterprise, Pancienses System.

Supporters of the Crown Princess, Arissa Lavigny-Duval, released a statement earlier today:

"Since the triumph of Imperial forces over thugs and marauders hired by the corrupt Social Pancienses Future regime, millions have risen in uprising around the sector.

The colossal battle that took place last week, in addition to nearly eradicating Social Pancienses Future, has given heart to the oppressed peoples in multiple nearby systems.

With the promise of swift support from Crown Princess Lavigny-Duval's forces stationed in Pancienses, uprisings have begun in 5G Apodis, Chelidones, Chujohimba, and Sak Nicopa against their oppressors.

Years of Federal neglect and independent corruption have left the area's populace brimming over with a militant desire for something new.

Supporters of the Crown Princess are, at this moment, flocking to the sector to help bring peace, justice and prosperity to this troubled region."
