Title: Kumo Crew Commanders Emboldened

Location: Harma

Description:

Emboldened by their defense against not just one, but three Imperial powers powers, Kumo Crew commanders pledge to expand into new territory.

It is apparent that weeks of defensive measures have not hurt the Kumo Crew's supply of contraband and only seems to be opening up new smugglings routes and production lines. They continue to influence nearby systems while gaining in capital with which to infiltrate independent worlds.

Demand is high for what many deem illegal goods, such as narcotics and battle weapons. These in term, serve to fill the coffers of Archon commanders who vow to continue their pursuit of independence from the Imperial regime.

Title: Smuggling on the rise in conflict strewn Pegasi Sector

Location: Pegasi Sector

Description:

"Let's just say, I'm not flying a small ship anymore!" laughed one commander, pledged to the Kumo Crew, when asked about the ongoing conflict in the Pegasi sector. "We all know that these Imperial types have been flying around and ransacking ships in our space, but what have they actually achieved? Archon Delaine has consistently shown us that, under his leadership, we can repel any fleets thrown at us and make an absurd amount of credits in the process. Who is really losing this fight?"

It is certainly hard to argue with the commanders' logic. The combined Imperial fleets have continually undermined Kumo Crew territory, but are yet to make any significant headway into smuggler controlled space. Reports show us that illegal contraband has risen at alarming rates since the conflict began and an unusually large amount of credits have made their way into Kumo Crew space from their aggressors' territory.

When asked where these seemingly never ending credits were flowing from, the commander had this to say: "I'm a supplier of goods, some legal and some... not-so-legal. People don't care about a line drawn in the sand, they want their 'trinkets' and 'toys'. War is good for business, and business is good."

With no end in sight, it certainly seems one group will be making the most of their situation while it lasts.

Title: Kamadhenu Citizens' Forum Re-Establishes Imperial Inquisition

Description: In response to concerns about corruption both at home and abroad, the Kamadhenu Citizen's Forum has re-established the Chapterhouse of Inquisition, to focus those seeking Justice for the Empire on enacting widespread reforms. The Chapterhouse of Inquisition seeks to support the clientela of the Empire in regions loyal to Senator Lavigny-Duval, by establishing Tribunals to cement Patronage and Feudal governments into positions of power in all systems loyal to the Senator.

Currently, the Chapterhouse of Inquisition is calling for volunteers from the Pilots' Federation pledged to Arissa Lavigny-Duval to form Tribunals in their home systems. The Senator's cause can best be expanded when the systems loyal to it are clear of corruption and focused on the single goal of supporting their patron. The Chapterhouse of Inquisition believes that Tribunals will be most efficient and effective with as much autonomy as is legally allowable.

Title: Political Tensions Mount as Imperial Wedding Approaches.

Description: While all of the empire is overjoyed with the Emperor's recovery, it seems that a dark cloud is growing over the upcoming Imperial wedding. Reports of domestic disturbances, and in some cases, full blown brawls, are starting to crop up throughout Imperial space. According to police reports, these are the result of heated political arguments between citizens who support Arissa Lavigny-Duval becoming heir to the Empire, and those who believe Aisling Duval should have that honor.

We contacted several supporters of both sides, who shall remain anonymous due to safety and privacy concerns.

"The last thing the Empire needs is a continuation of the status quo." A member of Aisling's Guardians told us. "The recent actions of Senator Denton Patreus has opened the eyes of many Imperial citizens of the current state of Imperial Slavery. It's time to stop pretending that it is still used to help citizens restore their honor and escape poverty! The system has become so easy to abuse, that we might as well be putting chains on the poor! I thought the Empire was founded to break away the corruption that had infested the Federation!"

"As for Arissa herself," the pilot continued, "where was she during all this? Where was she when Quivira was being strong armed into slavery by Patreus? While Aisling's Angels were pouring their heart and souls into saving them, Arissa flat out ignored their pleas for help, content to let Patreus pervert the ideals the Empire was founded on! Honestly, I have no idea what Aisling sees in him."

While it's clear that much of the tension stems from moral disputes, others have questioned Arissa's ability as a leader. Despite their hesitancy, we managed to get some more insight from a passing trader within the He Xingo System. "I was there when the fighting broke out. There was some kind of unwritten treaty between agents working for Arissa and Aisling, something about avoiding any interference with each other. Aisling's Agents were supposed to set up shop here, but some of Arissa's men pushed them out. It was ugly, Arissa's agents started attacking each other, several members of Ailsing's Angels got killed... if Arissa can't even keep her own agents under control, how is she going to lead the Imperial Navy?"

However, there are two sides to every story, and we sent out several reports to contact some of Arissa's more vocal supporters. We got several responses, and many of them had some not-so-kind words regarding the People's Princess.

"Did you hear what she said a few days ago about Senator Blaine? What a spoiled child! She's far too immature to be in charge of anything, let alone to be crowned Empress! The only reason she has the support she does is because she has a pretty face, and a decent PR team."

"The Emperor has made it very clear that he wishes for Arissa to inherit the throne." Said a passerby at Bell Terminal. "These people have no right to question the Emperor's will! It's borderline treason, is what it is!"

While the Emperor himself has not made any statements regarding the current political divide between his heirs, it's clear that beneath the surface, not everything in the Empire is as upbeat and cheerful as it seems.

A Treaty in Tatters; Aisling and Winters Prepare for War!

Legate Andariel, of Aisling’s 13th Legion, has officially ended the cease-fire treaty held between The 13th Legion and Winters’ Wolves. After a large number of reports of Winters’ supporters undermining Aisling’s control systems, the Legate made the decision to dissolve the treaty. A press conference was held aboard Smoot Station in Chona where Andariel explained his position.

“It has become apparent that Winters’ Wolves, while claiming to follow the treaty, have done no such thing. I have received many reports of Winters’ supporters, some of them well known Wolves, undermining our control systems.

I cannot stand by while Winters undermines all that we have worked for in the name of Aisling Duval, doing so would make the 13th Legion appear weak.”

Whilst no names have been disclosed, it is clear that these breaches of the treaty are unacceptable. The treaty was originally signed on July 17th, 3301 to allow the 13th to focus on the Imperial offensive against Archon Delaine with mixed responses from other Aisling factions. With Delaine’s forces all but melting away, it has been speculated that the 13th Legion is using false-flagging tactics to get the treaty removed so they can resume hostilities with Winters.

"Treachery is to be expected from Imperials. Will and of them ever prove this statement wrong? Not Legate Andariel apparently."

Title: Wolf 1230 Dynamic Industries still expanding
Description:
It's only been a week since the conquest of the system Nenexo, that the corporation Dynamic Industries expands its business in a new sector.
The system in question is Yukoukha: small economy of refining and political anarchy; although apparently it seems a system with no interest, industry voices speak of very low prices for some metals.
Is currently a war going on in the system for the control of an outpost.

Behind this new expansion and war it is still present the work of the corporation of private pilots DaVinci, which operates in support of Dynamic Industries for at least 5 months.
The private corporation in the last month has developed different divisions for the sectors of fighting, trade and exploration. Unofficial reports also speak of a division of espionage, which works against the nearby galactic powers.

In this regard, it seems that the state of Undermining of Hiranyaksha is due to the actions of this corporation, that sees in Delaine a possible threat to their territories.

Group Name: DaVinci Corp.

Title – Police Infighting Under the command of Arissa Lavigny-Duval

Description –
Arissa Lavigy-Duval is known for her ideals of justice, this is the reason why it is surprising to hear that the system defense pilots do not stop fighting each other in the worst situation even under her command. Police (or System Defense) infighting is a common issue in all systems, especially the ones that contain resource extraction zones.

The reason of these conflicts are usually hidden away, but investigations do not help too much either, or do they? The system defense pilots create a report at the time of engagement whit a program developed by the Sirius Corporation, investigations reveal the weirdest results: the engagement notes contain results varying from "Stole my sweet roll" through "Revenge for the shield" to "Alien scout detected". (Some of these are codes for certain illegal actions maybe?)

"The situation is terrifying." - parts of a conversation recorded with a pilot who wished his name not to be shown - "Sometimes the System Defense pilots are scanned by pirates while they fight, then the pirates go and seek out poor miners to kill, while these fights last. I've seen many fellow miners fall due to these fights."

"We do not tolerate such action." - said Arissa Lavigny-Duval during an interview - "We are issuing huge fines to such pilots when we find them, but currently the quality of these pilots are limited due to certain operations we are running. Some members of our Shield of Justice are continuously in search of the said corrupt pilots and keep reporting their actions, while they try to defend any civilian or other ships that are in need of defense."

- CMDR Tallsword

Inspired from the amount of police ships just trying to kill each-other for no visible reason. Eagle vs Eagle... Anaconda vs Eagle... and so on...
Is it still "Arissa Lavigny-Duval" or did she drop her "Lavigny" name yet due to the marriage?

C.O.N.T.R.A.I.L Returns to the Catun Sector

Title - Contrail Returns to the Catun Sector

Article Type – Local Galnet

Systems Involved – Catun, Mau, Chan Mina, Tastis, Nganji, Benapus

Date – August 2nd, 3301

The CMDR’s of C.O.N.T.R.A.I.L have once again returned to their home sector after a long and fruitless hiatus, fighting under the banner of Archon Delaine. The battle hardened CMDR’s accepted their employment by the Delaine front in the hopes of creating a mutual partnership to further solidify their position back in Catun. It became quickly apparent however that Delaine’s only interests were his own and that little would come of continued cooperation with the Kumo Crew.

Their reception in Catun has been a varied affair. The common Catunian worker once again feels empowered by the return of their combative representatives, not soon forgetting Contrail’s work in crushing the Catun Mafia’s crippling hold over the political landscape in the sector. Representatives of the Catun PLC and their federal cohorts were less than thrilled however. Since Contrail’s departure from the sector the Catun PLC has once again fallen into disarray in outlying expansion projects, and they staunchly blame Contrail for their own Blunders.

Title - Empire Commanders Closing in on Secret Smuggling

Article Type – Informative

Date – Week of August 2nd

Rumor has it that several Imperial Commanders are closing in on a well known smuggling route between the Torval and Delaine owned systems. Imperial slaves are illegal within Delaine space but sell for a small fortune on the black market. The Empire hates this because it removes, what they consider indentured servants and citizens, from a life time of Imperial service into a life time of forced labour. Commanders who use the secretive route have plenty to say about the prospect of impending Imperial intervention. A certain Commander Infinity+1 added;

"Ain't it funny how we're 'sposed to be the bad guys, but the Empire has so many slaves they're practically giving them away!"

When pressed to reveal the systems he runs between Infinity stated, "No, I'm not telling you about my favorite route, but let me just say 'Thank You' to the honorable Zemina Torval"

Profits allegedly run up towards 4,000 credits per slave. Time will tell if the Imperials can break the back of this illegal trade route and round up the smuggling ring, but one thing is certain; until the Empire fixes the problem of Archon Delaine there will be other runs to take its place.

Title: Sirius Corp. Commemorates Imperial Agreement

Description:
Senator Arissa Lavigny-Duval and Li Yong-Rui recently held a joint press conference following a highly successful first month of partnership.

Li Yong-Rui offered the following praise for the partnership, "The establishment of embassies in Heverduduna and Sietae has fostered understanding and cooperation between Sirius Corp. and the Empire. We have engaged in joint R&D projects, including silent running combat vessels. We have worked together in a humanitarian capacity to free slaves held by the Kumo Crew in the Pegasi sector. This partnership has even permitted us to add the Gutamaya Imperial Clipper to our portfolio. The good Senator has, at my request, provided military support to fend off the aggressive encroachment of our mutual enemies. I personally consider our partnership a great success that will continue to pay dividends."

Title: An Empire Without Slavery?

Text:
"A few months back all the 'elite' policy discourse in the Empire was totally dominated by the supposed crisis facing Imperial Slavery," stated famed economist and political commentator Kaul Prugman on Sunday's Meet the Imperial Press."These 'very serious people' were all assuring us that history's greatest menace was the threat posed by Aisling Duval's abolitionist sentiment."

"What Aisling has accomplished," he went on, "is nothing short of a miracle. She's taken hundreds of systems in the Imperial South with billions of good Imperial citizens and utterly eliminated slavery as an economic institution. The results are astounding." Dr. Prugman is only the latest in a string of high profile Imperials to question the necessity of slavery in the Empire.

Far from the widely predicted economic collapse as Imperial Slavery ended, systems in Aisling Duval's territory are flourishing. A cursory search by GalNet of dozens of systems failed to turn up the expected crises of mass unemployment, starvation, and unrest. Indeed, people galaxy wide are taking notice of Aisling Duval's economic miracle as Commanders flock to her territory to engage in lucrative trade of high value commodities. Moreover, The People's Princess has enjoyed widespread support and a strong standing among the galaxy's most prominent citizens.

Commander name: CMDR Quade

Rationale: 1. ALD is getting a lot of press lately but Aisling, the no. 1 power for 2 cycles now, barely gets a mention. 2. The big differentiator between Aisling and other Imperial factions is her abolitionist stance. It deserves some mention that she's succeeding despite the supposedly crippling mistake of banning slavery.

Title: Unknown Arterfact, a beacon?
Description: People in secret communities all over communications have been trying to figure out what the object only currently know as a unknown arterfact is and have simply asked the question, "are we over thinking it?" In which some people have said yes many times but can't still come up with a solution, that is simple. However as theories and speculations have bounced back and forth between minds in these communities, which the current biggest one is only referred to as the "Cannon" who are focusing on the facts. Galnet has gathered the currently confirmed facts which are: it does a sort of sonar scan of the closest celestial object or station and then sends out (chittering) sounds which are a highly distorted Morse code which represents that body while in open space but inside a ship's cargo hold it corrodes the ships modules until ejection.

Due to the facts someone has asked "any arguments to say it's not a beacon of some kind?" To which people have said about the corrosion that happens to ships who have currently carried one of these objects, but some believe that the corrosion is part of the power source of it as for something to do what it is doing would require a power source of some kind. For now people are continuing discussions as the members of "Cannon" are still chasing other theories while some try to continue to disprove the beacon theory.

People part of the "Cannon" are trying to reach out to those who have experience with or currently have a unknown arterfact to meet up at Timocani System Sunday on the 9th of August where a group effort to solve the mystery will be attempted by finding mass amounts of unknown arterfacts to test the more dangerous theories.

Hi everyone,

I’m sure you’re all familiar with the GalNet newsfeed in game and how we’re using it to provide updates on the various storylines currently active in game. We want to expand the newsfeed to include more player generated news and particularly upcoming events. As part of this process you can submit a news item for consideration by posting in this thread. To submit a news item simply post with the following:

- Date and time for the news item/event
- Title – this should be brief and include the location
- Description – This should be no more than 150 words

title = Independants Of Tetonang political update.

The election in Maityati continues to go well with the opposition (Maityati leagues) influence being at only #MLcurrentInf% compared to the IOTs amazing #IOTcurrentInf%.
Our resident political experts are quoted as saying "things are looking good for the IOT winning this election."

The drop in influence % in the system of Tetonang is to be expected with the main work being done on the election in Maityati.
Our political experts see no reason for concern over the small drops in Tetonang.
The Civil War in Tetonang still rages on between the Official Tetonang Liberty Party and the Tetonang Purple Dynamic Group, with the OTLP having a .6% lead over the TPDG at the moment.
Speculations are quite high on whether the IOT will attempt a take over of Yapping Dock once the smoke clears and while the OTLP are still recovering from the Civil War.

In Karaces the WAR between the Peoples Natrians Resistance and the Karaces Crimson State Partners continues to escalate.
Current standings are PNR at #PNRcurrentInf% and KCSP at #KCSPcurrentInf%.
Our political experts are still in talks over, if the PNR getting a strong foot hold into Karaces is a good or bad thing for the IOT, taking into account the amount of trade between the IOT and the PNR.

This has been an IOT public announcement from Cmdr BL1P.

title = Faces of The Many

Celebration turned to outrage in Utopia, as the once silent group The Many apparently used Time of Chaos mercenaries to deliver a violent message of disapproval to the Utopian scientists and engineers currently undertaking ‘Project Sothis’.

The Many, an as yet unidentified group supporting Utopia, shot to prominence after bolstering recent Utopian expansions, but have resisted attempts of diplomatic relations since, leading to rampant speculation as to their identity and motives.

As unconfirmed reports of attacks appeared on system newsfeeds, commander Pheyes speaking for the mercenary group confirmed events:

“Time of Chaos was hired by The Many to send a message to your commanders: "the needs of the Many outweigh the needs of the few.” Other mercenaries had been quoted as warning, "The Many do not approve of the Sothis expansion".

Controversial from its inception, Project Sothis has divided opinion with its huge technical challenges, but can it now survive this new threat? Using antiquated English, one of the architects of the project responded to the day’s events: “If this really is the Many, I say sod them”.

The stakes are high as Project Sothis nears completion; will this latest intervention mark a turning point for Utopias relationship with The Many?

Title: Imperial death wings claim millions of lives

Location: Pegasi Sector

Description:
In a brutal escalation of hostilities this week, it appears the full might of the empire has been thrown into the conflict-riddled Pegasi sector.

The death toll has been mounting in all Archon Delaine controlled space as Imperial supporters have been interdicting and destroying Archon Delaine ships at an unfathomable rate. These transport ships are accused of taking so-called marked slaves to the Harma system.

“I can’t believe they would do this, they were given no warning, no option of surrender, just blasted away like animals.” sobbed the newly widowed wife of a transport captain.

Officials in the Pegasi Sector had the following to say - “How can they do this? These monsters said they were here to free the slaves, not murder them!”

“If indiscriminate murder is the empire’s tool of liberation, count me out.”

“This imperial princess needs to reign in her dogs”

Truly, this is a dark chapter for the Imperial military.

Children of Liberty call out Alliance hypocrisy

- Description

A group calling itself the 'Children of Liberty' has made a public statement concerning the Alliance and what they deem its "rampant hypocrisy." The group claims that a "huge gulf" exists between the Alliance's professed goals and values and the reality present in many of its member systems.

"For an organization that purports to be so devoted to the ideals of liberty and self-determination," the release stated, "The Alliance certainly tolerates a great deal of despotism and tyranny within its own borders. It's about time the Alliance addressed the rampant hypocrisy of allowing dictatorships, as well as other restrictive, undemocratic forms of government, membership into their supposed 'bastion' of freedom and liberty."

The statement went on to list a number of Alliance-sponsored autocracies in various systems, and called on the Alliance and its supporters to sponsor serious democratic reform in said systems by backing democratically-aligned factions over autocratic ones.

Would be fun if ED automatically read the RSS news feed (say from the BBC world service) of what is happening in the world. It could dynamically change any dates to be 1000 years in the future and countries to be star systems etc. This would mean the Galnet news is live and dynamic.

Perhaps even limit this to the top 10 most read as I can appreciate it would flood the Galnet otherwise.

They just need to hire a writer who's full time job would be to make up these stories. It's a great thing to involve players, so they could post their own findings, happenings, made up stories about kittens ;) etc, but there should be an expert until this stream of news from players dries out. We can make things up of course all day long and some would probably do it for a while, but the stream will dry out, and if there is no one paid to do this, we will lose our fun news, to read every day for a chuckle or two.

Title: Political analysts unconvinced by displays of Imperial grief

Description:

Even as the Imperial High Command finalizes the wording of it's official response to the Emperor's assassination political analysts across the galaxy are speculating on the darker truths that lie behind the veil of unity.

Few seem to believe that Patreus is the real culprit. While ambitious, the Senator is known for more open and direct action to achieve his political goals and it seems unlikely that he would have a hand in assassination while still trying to shake off the fingers of accusation that were turned towards him regarding the earlier attempt on the Emperor's life.

While Imperial spokespersons have been quick to suggest the involvement of an external power they were even swifter with attempts to bolster their own claims to the throne. Messages such as "Arissa for Empress!" and "Bask in her Glory" have characterized the internal response and stand in stark contrast to the public statements offering messages of sympathy.

Galnet's chief analyst summarized the political situation as follows:

"Despite the public tears and outrage it seems clear that many powerful figures within the Empire are privately rejoicing at the news and hoping it will bode well for their own Imperial ambitions. There is little doubt that behind the scenes a complex and dangerous political game will be playing out for some time, as those who seek ultimate power within the Empire use every means at their disposal to secure it. Whether the tension and machinations will spill out into direct conflict and civil war is unknown at this point. It is equally likely that the key players will choose to project an air of unity while pursuing their real ambitions with more clandestine actions."
