News for Jaque's Station

DATE: Today
TITLE: Repairs to Jaque's Station Completed
DESCRIPTION:

In February, we reported that Jacque's Station was making its way through HIP 110079. At the time, many commanders who visited the station reported that its various facilities were offline. These days, Jaque and his station can be found in GLIESE 1269, so we talked to Commander Jak, who recently had a drink with the cyborg bartender.

"Yeah, we chatted. Jaque says the station's workshops were offline for a while during repairs. They suspended trading during that time, but services are now available. He apologizes for not posting a sign. Anyway, I saw ship upgrades for sale and reps for the various political figures, and even heard rumors of an underground market. Apparently Trinkets of Hidden Fortune are a thing. And of course, those stills Jaque makes are available. I sold the man some cartography info and repaired the damage I took from pirates during approach. His mechanics did good work."

TITLE: Empire representatives call for calm amidst people's disquiet
DESCRIPTION:

As news of the Emperor’s passing spreads through the streets and back alleys of the Empire one word is on everyone’s lips.

“Why?”

Emperor Hengist Duval was dearly loved by his people and there was great rejoicing and anticipation at the coming wedding. That elation has now succumbed to doubt, fear, and most dangerously to anger. The people of the Empire search for answers, and for targets to lash out at. Already there is reports of looting and small riots in border worlds. Even in the backrooms of the power players of the Empire there is a sense of unease. As aid’s murmur rumors to each other and other’s still bring in what reports they can and compare it with intelligence of past events trying to find a pattern.

As the public cries out for answers, for names, the respective Press Secretaries of the Empire factions held an emergency joint teleconference broadcast across the airwaves of the Empire.

“The loss of Emperor Hengist Duval is a tragedy not just for the Empire but for all of humanity”, said the representative from Arissa Lavigny-Duval. “While we do now know a person in Denton Patreus’s wedding party was the perpetrator of this foul act we do not yet know what their motives were or on whose agenda they acted. We ask for calm in the coming days as we search for these answers, justice will be had but revenge will lead only to further needless death. We ask that the people of the Empire stay strong and stay vigilant so that the truth can be rooted out.”

A speaker from Denton Patreus then solemnly added; “On this dark day our hearts are filled with regret, confusion and anger. We are as shocked as any amongst you that someone in our delegation could commit such an act. We assure you this person does not represent our people or our desires and ask for patience while answers are sought.” This was followed by the Zeminal Torval representative who stated; “Even with our differences we are all an Empire United and we must not let this tragedy change that. Do not fall prey to whispers and half truths. Stand fast and let tradition and trust in the Empire lead the way.”

As the teleconference was concluding a reporter asked if the Aisling Duval official might have any insight into what happened, to which the reply was; “Aisling of course sends her deepest regrets and condolences to all people of the Empire. But we know no more than any of you and as always desire only for a peaceful outcome. We ask only for patience as others have said here today, on this matter we are one.”

With representatives for all the Empire factions calling for calm whether or not the people would head this call is a matter still to be decided, and that decision will greatly affect the future of the Empire.

Title: Imperial Officers Pay Their Respects

Description:
Dark storm clouds hang over the Fragrant City, a fit reflection of the hearts of Imperial Citizens. Drops of rain mingle with tears of mourners holding a vigil at the site where the Emperor fell.

In stark contrast to the sea of black funeral garb is a row of white dress uniforms. A wing of Imperial Naval officers bearing the insignia of Lavigny’s Legion stood at attention, paying their respects to their fallen leader.

As they replaced their hats and turned to board a nearby courier we asked them to share their thoughts on this solemn occasion.

CMDR Rockser - “The Emperor's reign was a peaceful one, enjoyed by many. In this time of mourning, my only hope is that we don't let his final call for imperial unity fall upon deaf ears.”

CMDR ZATZAI - "I will miss Emperor Hengist Duval, he and his dream for the Empire will live on forever in my heart and through my actions as an Imperial citizen."

CMDR Corrigendum - “'We live in times that hold great promise for our beloved Empire.’ Those are the last words I remember the Emperor saying. My hope is that his vision for our future is not lost with his passing.”

The last commander did not share his callsign but provided this terse, yet heartfelt statement - "We send our condolences to lady Arissa and lady Florence."

Title: Ewah Joins Utopia

After two months of violent protests and raging conflicts the system of Ewah has elected to join Pranav in Utopia. The system
has been plagued by a group of rebel rousers working out of Guayambaan, who have been working to claim the system for their
own needs. Despite the call of the citizens to join Pranav the Agents of The Future of Guayambaan have been terrorizing Ewah and
taking part in violent protests against Pranav. The Utopian government had it's hands full with Sothis and other expansions and
was not ready to face the AoF, who had threatened Pranav's followers, in open conflict. It is reported that Pranav hired the mercenaries of the Independent Pilots
Consortium to strike out against this rebel faction. After contacting I.P.C. high command they had this to say: "While we can
not state who the contract was from we can say yes we were there. We ran direct attacks on AoF and supported the citizens of
Ewah in their struggle. We have had conflicts with AoF before and knew full well what we were getting into. CMDR _Han_Solo_ is
to be commended for his actions there, he was a source of great inspiration to all those involved."- CMDR Chef-Jitsu. The
future of the Ewah is still uncertain and the war torn system will need time to recover. Only time will tell the fate of this
tattered system.

Title - The Kumo Crew Stands in Unity While its Opponent Appears Divided

Date – August 6th 3301 (Or Cycle 10 [6th-13th])

Under the overwhelming pressure and odds of the Imperial offensive, the Kumo Crew still avoided turmoil and even gained a controlled system after the ferocious assault by the Empire. With the Emperor's death and the slow moving of Operation Davy Jones, the chasms between the Imperial powers become more conspicuous than ever.

Zemina Torval attempted to prepare another system near Archon Delaine in search of profitable trade routes. According to sources, an Aisling Duval Commander personally liberated 500 tons of slaves from Torval's territory and released 100 tons of bio-waste containers inside the station of Torval's headquarter. A commentator states that "I don't get it, if the Aisling Commander is trying to help the slaves, who does he think is going to clean up the bio-waste in the station?"

Witnesses also testify to Aisling Duval Commanders hunting down other Commanders pledged to Denton Patreus in anger of the Emperor's assassination. Officials from the Aisling Duval faction also expressed concerns that Patreus' Commanders are, while valuable and valiant allies, very aggressive and difficult to interact with, akin to warmongers.

Both Arissa Lavigny-Duval and Aisling Duval Commanders express that their leader should be heir to the Empire, some even suggest further effort is necessary in continuing Operation Davy Jones even in the period of mourning, and ignore Denton Patreus being the sole suspect to the assassination of the Emperor just to further the war efforts.

Rumors are spreading quickly among powers outside of the Empire, some even accusing the Empire for being corrupted and calling for a combined retaliation against the Empire for its recent tyrannical and ruthless discretion.

Title: ARC issues a call to arms
Description/Story:
The recently formed Alliance Rapid-reaction Corps, a group of combat pilots pledged to Edmund Mahon, today issued a statement to the Council of Admirals requesting greater support for independent pilots.

“The Alliance is in its strongest position yet but the higher we climb, the more of a target we are. Now more than ever we need clear communications and organisation between all affiliated groups, as well as a rank structure so we can integrate independent pilots into Alliance defence.”

When asked about the ARC a spokesperson stated, “ARC is small, new and independent but we’re happy to follow the lead of larger, more established organisations like the AEDC. This is what the Alliance is all about; diverse, unique systems working together for mutual benefit, and if we want that to continue we need more pilots willing to fight for the Alliance, in our own territory and beyond.”

TITLE : The last expedition for the Corsairs of the Empire?
DESCRIPTION : The sudden death of the Emperor Hengist Duval could jeopardize the Imperial protection previously enjoyed by the Corsairs of the Empire through their Letter of Marque. The Emperor's signature allowed the Corsairs to act on His behalf, with their unique methods, where the Imperial Fleet could not go for diplomatic reasons. Always acting at the edges of Law, the Corsairs now fear that the successor to the throne won't be as forgiving to their activities and therefore put an end to their organization, or worse hunt them. It is said that Arissa Lavigny-Duval isn't fond of pirates, privateers and smugglers working under the Imperial banner.
Currently operating from the Princess's territory, the Corsairs' commander, CMDR Jondo Kobran, is waiting for more information from his contacts in Achenar and Kamadhenu. Meanwhile, he had this to say to the press: "We believe that the word of the Emperor still means something. We are no angels, for sure, but we payed our debt. We took great risks for the wealth of the Empire. Some of us died in the shadow of forbidden and forgotten wars. I hope the Senate has a long memory. If it hasn't, we will."
There is an unusual level of activity at the Corsair's headquarters. Anonymous sources suggest it may be in preparation for the next expedition, or maybe exile.

Title: Security Tightened Around Princesses and Senators

Description:

With the Empire plunged into mourning, leading Imperial commanders across Powers have issued a statement calling for calm and affirming the ongoing offensive by Imperial fleets in the Pegasi Sector. Further, a directive ordering all commanders to co-operate with on-going investigations has been published across the Empire.

Cmdr Imperius II, pledged to Arissa Lavigny, stated: “We see no reason to stop our joint operations. On behalf of us all, I ask that all Imperials refrain from vigilante undermining of fellow Imperial Powers.”

Cool heads prevail for the time being, although heated debate has been sparked across the Empire, with theories running the gamut from Federal agents, Imperial contenders for the throne, right through to independent Powers and Thargoids all being floated as possible culprits.

In the wake of Chancellor Blaine’s statement issued this morning, however, personal protection forces in the Capital have been quickly and quietly but significantly strengthened around Princesses Aisling Duval and Arissa Lavigny-Duval and Senators Denton Patreus, and Zemina Torval. When questioned as to whether a further attack is feared, Cmdr “Starcloak” Eleshenar, of Senator Patreus’ office, stated only: “We are closing in on the perpetrator of this crime, and are taking steps accordingly." Earlier in the day, shortly after the Chancellor's statement, members from all four delegations were spotted attending a closed meeting in Capital.

From the Office of Alliance Statistics, Gateway

For immediate release

In the recent weeks there has been a massive increase in the number of deaths due to terrorism in or near Alliance territory. These are violent attacks that are clearly done in an effort to affect the political climate in these systems, which is why the Office of Alliance Statistics is using the term terrorism for these attacks.

It is currently unknown who the culprits are, but these are attacks that are specifically targetting innocent political bureaucrats from nearby systems carrying legislative records to their home, and the rest were local defence force pilots sent to investigate their distress calls. Careful analysis of the data has allowed us to weed out the deaths caused by accidents and regular criminal activity, leaving us with the following shocking statistics.

The per capita terrorism death rate between July 30th, 3301 and August 5th, 3301 is the absolute minimum, as it is based on the assumption that each ship destroyed had a crew of exactly one, and we've only counted ships whose black box data confirm the cause of destruction as weapons fire as well as a lack of any indicators of piracy or other ulterior motives such as jealous murder.

The independent system Quan Gurus: 82.19/100,000.

The Federation system Opala: 93.28/100,000.

The Federation system Cartoq: 256.99/100,000.

The independent system LTT 5964: 559.20/100,000.

The independent system Ithaca: 21,453/100,000

Last week these five systems combined saw more than 6,000 ships being destroyed due to terrorism.

The following Alliance systems were hit the hardest last week, and there are strong indications that the terrorism rate will increase significantly in all Alliance systems:

Holiacan: 52.50/100,000.

Bielonti: 30.69/100,000.

Namaka: 2.57/100,000.

Caraceni: 0.94/100,000

Zosi: 0.71/100,000

Last week these five Alliance systems combined saw more than 900 ships being destroyed due to terrorism.

Due to this rise in terrorism in and near Alliance territory, the Office of Alliance Statistics can no longer stand by and say nothing. It is time that Prime Minister Edmund Mahon starts supporting the rising calls for increased security in Alliance territory. There have been several calls to have the Alliance hire pilots from the Pilot's Federation to aid in fighting these terrorists.

Unanswered Pleas from Pegasi

Description:
The most wanted man in the galaxy, Archon Delaine remains at large in the Pegasi Sector. Beleaguered systems continue to fall to the "Pirate King.” Asymmetric tactics have limited the effectiveness of Imperial forces in the region, but the Imperial fleets have staunchly denied further advances into Imperial territory. Enigmatically, the Federation remains idle despite increased cries for help from besieged systems such as Ngam and HIP 108822.

"I just don’t get it,” marveled the Governor of the Liberals of Ngam. “President Hudson has been expanding the fleet since he took office. Nearly two-thirds of the people being exploited by the Kumo Crew are Federation citizens. Where are the Federation’s fleets?” The Governor’s shoulders dropped as he released an exasperated sigh. “We can’t do this alone. I’ve got over 2 billion citizens to look out for. If the Federation refuses to intervene, I’ll be forced to call upon the Empire for aid."

Title: Pegasi Conflict Escalates.

With the specific battles of Kakmbutan and Cuchua seemingly over for the time being, commanders from both sides have redirected their efforts. The planets of the Pegasi sector find themselves under siege, forcing the Kumo Crew to focus on those most engaged with the economics of the black market system. Profits run high while bodies begin to pile up.

Questions abound about who the offensive is really harming, and whether the implemented tactics of the Imperium are as effective as they claim. Transports that fly the flag of the Kumo Crew are regularly interdicted and destroyed by the Imperials; the economies of many systems suffering as billions of credits and millions of lives are affected.

Title: Tensions between Aisling Duval and Shapsugabus TV

Description:

Tensions between Aisling Duval and Shapsugabus TV peaked recently due to a comment made by one of the TV network's figures. CMDR zuark, who hosts “The Sugar Bus of Shapsugabus," said this week that Shapsugabus TV would pledge loyalty to Duval if she would personally appear on the Sugar Bus. "She has to sit in my co-pilot seat,” he said. “And she has to hold my hand."

This sparked a blitz from Duval's media team, prompting Shapsugabus TV's executives to release this statement:

"Normally we might distance ourselves from the comments of one game show host, but we stand by this one, Ms. Duval. Appear personally on the Sugar Bus Show, and Shapsugabus TV will pledge its resources to your cause. But you have to sit in the co-pilot seat, and you have to hold his hand."

Aisling Duval, who controls the Shapsugabus system, could not be reached for comment.

Title : Alioth Council comments on Children of Liberty.

Description :

In response to the recent uproar caused by the Children of Liberty, Vanh Pan, spokesman for the Alioth Council held a speech today in Alioth discussing the issue ;

"In times like this, people need to remember why the alliance was formed for in the first place.
Although we strongly support democracy and human rights, the alliance is first and foremost, a force to protect as many people as possible from the Federation and Empire. When we allow dictatorships, anarchists and other undemocratic leaderships, it is not because we support the government, but because we see the need of protecting the people it governs!

All systems have the right to remain independent - No matter if it is an anarchy or a theocracy.
This is the fundamental of the alliance, and it should remain like it."

He continued to speak on how the alliance is (and has) given significantly more military and economical aid to democratic goverments, and how they are starting new healthcare and generally socialistic programs in the next few years.

Prime Minister Edmund Mahon was not able to comment on this issue.

The exiled Imperial King Aruval of Codorain issued a statement denouncing the assassination on Russell Networks from his temporary palace in Komovoy and called on all Emperor's Grace warriors to return home to fight for the Empire and the fallen Emperor. King Aruval finished his interview with a swipe at his former school mate Admiral Brennus and Senator Patreus stating that "Patreus is not the Emperor and he never will be and his lap dog Brennus didn't advise the beloved Emperor too well now did he?". Both Senator Patreus and Admiral Brennus were unavailable for comment.

Title(feel free to edit): Adle's Armada Brings Sovereignty to Hel System After Two Month War.
Location: Global
Cmdr Name: S!LK

Body (edit as you feel fit):

Breaking news coming out of the Hel system today, a two month long battle over the future of the Hel system has ended today as the Federally aligned justice seeking militia group known as Adle's Armada defeats the arms dealer Grimnir Allvadderung known to be backed by the criminal organization known as the Cosmic State and is now in complete control of the system and its starport. The Armada had received intelligence of an illegal arms deal within the Hel sector between CEO Allvadderung and the leader of the Emperor's Grace, Vaarwen Mako Brennus that was taking food out of local residents' mouth and forcing them into slave labor in order to fill the massive orders of illegal weapons shipments.

Upon arrival, Adle's Armada was vastly outnumbered by several different criminal organizations as well as various Imperial groups looking to back the arms deal. In a last ditch effort to overpower the opposition, Armada leader Tyllerious Adle III struck a deal with a small Federal faction known as the "Labour of Caill Reddi" which at the time only held 1% influence in the system to aid them in supplies from the nearby system of Caill Reddi. The battle was waged over Hel and the neighboring system of Lie You Kou for several months, both sides losing ground and gaining it back within a few days. Eventually Adle's Armada ground forces were able to infiltrate Hel's starport, Jones Orbital and finished off all of CEO Allvadderung's remaining fighters. In true Federal fashion, a Democratic election lasting three days was put forth for all minor factions in Hel to vote on, resulting in an overwhelming success for the Labour of Caill Reddi. In commemoration for supporting the future and safety of Hel, plans are in progress to rename Jones Orbital to "Adle's Bastion" to remind all that there is some justice in this Galaxy. As for Grimnir Allvadderung, he is aboard the Armada's prison ship SSV Night Fury en route to Sol for questioning.

Adle's Armada has set up their new headquarters in the area surrounding Hel, backing the Labour of Caill Reddi and looks to expand its own form of Federal influence from there. "There is no room in Hel for criminals, only hard working citizens under a democratically elected government." says Tyllerious Adle III.

Title(feel free to edit): The Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Ice-Cool Trucker Bootlegger Challenge.
Location: Weyl Gateway, Alacarakmo
Cmdr Name: Raiko

Body (edit as you feel fit):
Every day is a party day at Weyl Gateway, but the annual barbeque of local mobsters Anthony "Fat Tony" Lonnegan and Enoch "Little Nuk" Lonnegan - "The Lonnegan brothers" - is famous throughout the Bubble.

The brothers won't settle for anything less than an almost unlimited supply of the best booze and drugs from around the galaxy, plus some nice meat to grill on Tony's barbie.

So for two weeks before the party they run The Bootlegger Challenge - A big festival for the most badass, ice-cool space-truckers and smugglers from across the galaxy. It's the biggest rare-goods hauling event of the year, to prepare for the party of the year. (In the Alacarakmo system at least).

The Main Event - The Bootlegger Challenge.

The rules are simple, take off from Weyl Gateway (Alacarakmo) and visit any eight stations from the 21 listed. Return to Weyl Gateway with a hold stuffed with rare-goods from the list, including at least one ton from each of the eight stations. Fastest ship back to Weyl Gateway wins the race.

Each class of ship has a minimum required delivery, ranging from 8 tons for the little fighters and couriers, up to 64 tons for the biggest ships. The minimum delivery is based on the size of internal-bay-2, with the exception of three classes (sidewinder, Eagle, Type-9). You can run with more if you want, but arriving with less means that your run doesn't count.

Best Trader League.

As well as race to get back to Weyl the fastest, there's a separate untimed award for the most profitable run. This event uses the same rules, but is scored by profit not by time. You can trade any goods enroute, but only at your eight chosen stations (plus Weyl Gateway), and you can only dock at each station once.

The Black Riband - Sponsored by Evil Juice.

There is nothing that Fat Tony and Little Nuk like to hear more than the sad tales of traders shot up by pirates or fined by the Feds. For this reason Little Nuk dreamed up The Black Riband - he likes to tell everyone that this trophy is to recognise "the best smuggler in the galaxy", but the reality is that Nuk is running sweep bets on how many pilots will be killed and what the biggest fine/insurance claim will be.

The holder of the Black Riband is the CMDR who makes a run out of Weyl Gateway and makes it back to make an 'minimum delivery' for their ship class the fastest with the hold full of the following items: Bast Snake Gin, Eranin Pearl Whiskey, Lavian Brandy, Leestian Evil Juice, Onion Head, Rusani Old Smokey, Tarach Spice and Wuthielo Ku Foth.

The "Mrs Lonnegan's Ultimate Spa Weekend Trophy"

There is nothing that Fat Tony's long suffering wife Carmela Lonnegan loves more than a nice relaxing Spa weekend, especially after a row with Tony. Her favourite pampering products are kind of hard to get hold of though - A glass of Centauri Mega Gin (and tonic) and an application of Motrona Experience Jelly, followed by sensual massage using V Herculis Body Rub, and last but not least a refreshing cup of Void Extract Coffee from Ehrlich Orbital.

So this year, to make Carmela happy and to shut up all those whining couriers and racers, Tony is offering the "Mrs Lonnegan's Ultimate Spa Weekend Trophy" to the fastest pilot to leave Weyl Gateway, fly to each of the four distant stations/outposts and return with a single ton of each product.

Title: The price for a better life
Location: Noco
Commander Name: Exil

Description:

Since their arrival in the system of Noco on the 19th of May 3301, the Dukes of Mikunn have been attempting to help the citizens in any way they could. Through their large networks and number of mercenary pilots, the Dukes had brought riches to the people of Noco who enjoyed weeks of economical boom. Approval ratings for the newcomers had been increasing daily as more and more shipments of goods were brought to the people, attacting unwanted attention from the local governing faction.

Despite their setbacks during the month of July when Duke systems were severely hit by pirate pilots flying Archon Delaine flags, the system of Noco had seen no increase in pirate activity. The only effect that the people of Noco had witnessed was a sudden drop in stocks for two days after which they began to increase at an astonishing rate.

Due to the high quality of life that the Dukes began to provide, many of Noco's inhabitants rallied against the ruling faction, demading that ownership of the system be handed to the Dukes. While the population had succeeded initially, what followed was an unprovoked assault by the Independed Noco Values Party against the Dukes of Mikunn.

Along side unprovoked attacks, the appearance of FNS Thanatos in orbit around Noco 7 only worsened the situation in the system. With casualties mounting on the civilian side due to the wrecklesness of the Independent Noco Values Party in their crusade and leaving the Dukes of Mikunn with no other choice on hand, war was officially declared between the two factions.

However, despite the best efforts of the Independent Noco Values Party to reclaim ownership from the Dukes of Mikunn, going as far as to call in assistance from federal battlecruisers, the war lasted no less than 24 hours. With the assistance of the Mercenaries of Mikunn who employed guerilla tactics against the battlecruiser FNS Thanatos, drawing its attention away from ships flying Duke banners, the standing army of the Independent Noco Values Party was soundly defeated.

The Dukes of Mikunn have promised the local population that they will work towards fixing the problems that the previous owners have left behind and thank them for the vote of confidence.
