Title: Apalar bid attracts the criminal element.

Date and time: Immediate release.

Cmdr Name: Mikalus

In recent community efforts such as those centered around the plague outbreak, the Kumo Crew have been conspicuously absent from causing trouble, leaving criminal activity to be led by other notorious criminals such as The Code. With the new attention on Apalar rumor has it that Archon is now watchful of the Imperial forces there.

One pirate said: “There’s plunder aplenty to be had. Do not expect the Crew to turn a blind eye to these efforts so close to our own borders.”

Curiously, there is news that commanders pledged to the Empire are also heavily involved with stealing cargo from trade ships in the system. It is foreseeable that Apalar’s request for aid may in fact have the opposite affect, drawing all the players of the criminal underworld into its own sphere of influence.

TITLE: Galactic Bar Crawl: A Competition of Exploration
DESCRIPTION:

The Galactic Bar Crawl is a competition of Exploration. Unlike races where winners are defined by time, this ongoing event assigns a score to each participant based on their exploration activities while navigating the route. Scores are calculated using 4 different methods. In order of increasing difficulty they are:

  • Scout (difficult)
    • Exploration Profit / Systems Visited
  • Prospect (challenging)
    • Level 2 Detailed Scans / Exploration Profit
  • Explore (demanding)
    • Exploration Profit / Level 3 Detailed Scans
  • Survey (impossible)
    • Total Detailed Scans / Systems Visited

The route for this competition takes you from Human controlled space, to a black hole at the near end of the galaxy's central bar, to Sagittarius A*, to another black hole at the far end of the galactic bar, and then back to human space.

To participate, please read the official forums thread, found here.

Title: Pirate POWs Pack Prisons

Description:
The Pegasi Pirate War that stemmed from the United Imperial Offensive has stressed the logistical prowess of the Empire. Supplies, ships, and personnel must be transported up to hundreds of light years from their origins to the Pegasi Sector. Provisioning the Imperial fleet over such distances is a monumental task unto itself. Additionally, the steady stream of prisoners of war extradited to Imperial space must be provisioned, guarded, and accommodated. Many prisoners await judgement by the Pilot’s Federation for their crimes against Intergalactic laws, while many others face additional judgement in Imperial courts.

With the many thousands of prisoners now in custody, accommodation is becoming an issue. Prisoners are currently being held in hundreds of locations, creating additional logistical problems. Sources within Empire have indicated that the search for a suitable penal station, capable of holding all the prisoners, has commenced.

Title: I.P.C Pledges To Protect Traders

Description:
As the traffic in Apalar increases so does pirating activity, in conjunction to the Pegasi Pirate War the Independent Pilots Consortium has launched an operation to protect traders and support bounty hunting activities in the Apalar System. As the Pegasi Pirate War rages, on many Commanders from the Independent Pilots Consortium or I.P.C have flocked to the area in support of safe and free trade amongst star systems. Cooperation between Imperial Commanders and I.P.C pilots is welcome and several pirates have been destroyed over the past few days as well as the needed supplies getting to Svavarsson Terminal. CMDR Starkiller_ of I.P.C High Command had this to say on the matter:

‘We do not support piracy in any way and will do our utmost to put an end to the activities of criminals in the Apalar System and ensure safe delivery of industrial materials.’

Title: Pilots React to Leaked Recordings (Galnet)

Following the scandal involving the recordings of Princess Aisling Duval’s alleged remarks, reaction across the Empire has been mixed. Though many in the Imperial Navy have been incensed by the remarks, the response from loyalists in the Pilot’s Federation has been far more muted.

One political analyst loyal to Princess Lavigny-Duval declined to comment at length, but did remark:

“Rubbish. A transparent attempt by enemies of the Empire to divide us during an unprecedented time of cooperation and solidarity.”
One Aisling supporter we interviewed was also skeptical:

“There is no evidence whatsoever that these are genuine statements instead of pointless rumors to undermine the Empire's unity. I’m worried that somebody seems to be targeting our heads of state, so let’s guard our princesses well.”

This general sentiment seems common among pilots loyal to Princess Aisling Duval and to Princess Lavigny-Duval, with many expressing shock and disbelief that the Princess would say such crass and ill-advised remarks.

Title: Piracy in Kamadhenu (Galnet or local to Kamadhenu)

With all attention being given to the Pegasi sector, it seems that systems much closer to home are being ignored. Traders have reported a massive increase in the number of interdiction attempts in the Kamadhenu system, particularly near Shajn Market Station. “It’s ridiculous” one trader notes, “at this point, I just get ready to shake off an interdiction every time I approach the station!”

The problem seems to stem from an unusually large number of Federation and Alliance privateers active in-system in addition to deep incursions by the Kumo Crew. The lack of military response in the heart of Lavigny-Duval’s space has not gone unnoticed, and many traders are revising their routes to avoid the system entirely in response.

Representatives from the Imperial Navy could not be reached for comment.

A New Champion of SPQR Rises

Date/Time:

Is Not Date/Time Sensitive. At one's convenience.

Title:

A Champion of SPQR Rises, Anyone Else?

Description:

After announcing the new SPQR Champion, CMDR Mongo Sensi has made a proposition for other leaders to name their Champion for the purpose of friendly conditioned duels between Champions for the sake of sport and possibly settlement of minor disputes.
  • Start with random challenges between groups as exhibition duels.
  • If popularity increases, a Grand Tournament can be held.
  • Exhibition duels and tournaments can be held in the honor of Power Leaders. (Zachary Hudson, Denton Patreus etc.)
  • Results of duels can be announced on the Galnet for the entertainment and record keeping of others.

Body:

After the triumphant combat campaign that doubled as a contest between members of SPQR, CMDR Mongo Sensi announces the victor and new Champion of SPQR, CMDR Ouch That Hurts.
Now, the leader of SPQR goes further with this:

"Is there any leader willing to do the same?
Is there any other organization within this galaxy willing to choose THEIR OWN champion.

Let these Champions represent their fellow CMDRs in a friendly duel.
Let the victor return safely to their people where they will be showered with honor, glory, and riches.
Let the victor's name be echoed past the dark corners of space, where might the Thargoids waken from their slumber.

Don't forget to respect the fallen champion as they showed honor in participating in the fight.
Don't forget the fallen must return to their people too, so that they can train harder and one day have their revenge!

May these Champion Fights be for sport.
May these Champion Fights settle minor disputes rather than a costly war.

The combatants must follow a designated set of restrictions in order for the fight to be a true test of skill and wit.
Not of wealth.

The combatants can't be the leaders of the represented organization.
As it is part of our duties as leaders to train our members.

Exhibition Champion Fights can arise at random. This will eventually help standings.
After some time and with increased popularity, may a Grand Tournament of Champions be held."

Date/Time Requested - Before Sunday 23rd August if possible
(Note - slightly over, but if final sentence removed word-counts at 150 words)

Title - Parks Project Turns Green

Controversy is rarely far from the Unknown Artefacts and those investigating them - and it now extends to the 'creative differences' of the film industry.

Director Harris Parks is locked in dispute with media juggernaut Larval Studios following reshoots of a forthcoming film based upon the rogue scientists of the Canonn.

Outraged that studio chiefs ordered his espionage thriller edited into a heist caper, Parks is quoted as being: "simply apoplectic, darling. They even changed the name. It should be The Berthac File, taken directly from acquired research. I had ex-Navy cryptographers decoding that, gleaning insights into their methods and intentions. Instead we get another frivolous comedy. What calibre of sociopolitical commentary can audiences expect from something called The Timocanian Job?"

Following the post-wrap inclusion of comedian Benny Hillocks, Parks - twice winner of the prestigious Palm D'Arlesque - has filed a suit to remove his name from the credits.

As for the Canonn themselves, rumours reach GalNet of a substantial increase in their operations - while official sources remain unwilling to comment.

For immediate release.

Following the revelation of Imperial Princess Aisling Duval's propaganda floods, the OAS has been inundated with demands that we retract these claims, as well as claims that Alliance Prime Minister Edmund Mahon is responsible for similar levels of propaganda. With this in mind we sent our intrepid interns on a hunt in Gateway's space docks, and the results are rather surprising.

Questioning dock workers and going through shipping manifests for ships leaving Gateway revealed no propaganda materials. The most scandalous thing found were seven tonnes of inflatable dolls headed for an independent prison colony, as the shipment had been labelled "Luxury Items". Gateway may not have anything to hide, but clearly there is plenty to be embarrassed about.

Since overt tactics didn't yield any interesting results, our interns then decided to use less savoury tactics to obtain information. While the OAS does not condone such actions, we feel obligated to report on the findings. The Prime Minister's office filed a court injunction to prevent the publication of these findings, but this was rejected immediately, as the judges felt the information was noteworthy and in no way damaging to the security of the Alliance. At the same time the interns were fined 1,000 credits each for breach of dock security and customs tags.

Last week a total of 281,591 cannisters labelled "Alliance Legislative Records" were delivered to Gateway. The interns broke open 947 of these, and the results are nothing short of confusing.

Of 947 cannisters, every single one of them was filled to the brim with red tape. Not figurative red tape, actual red tape. Up until this point in time, the OAS was of the opinion that the legislative bodies of the systems working with Prime Minister Mahon were simply hyper active and eager to rubber stamp any and all kinds of legislation they came across, as this was the only way to explain the amount of "records" being delivered to Gateway on a weekly bases.

Now, however, we are forced to reevaluate our previous conclusions. It seems that Mahon's "bureaucrats" have actually been busying themselves with keeping people free from being bogged down and caught up in red tape all across Mahon's sphere of influence. This would also explain why these people are happy to support Mahon - they are being liberated, sometimes literally, from red tape.

The red tape has since been confiscated by Mahon "bureaucrats", dressed in various levels of containment gear, which has lead some people to suspect that the red tape may actually be a biological menace rather than man-made.

The OAS would like to make clear, that Prime Minister Edmund Mahon's office has refused to comment on this press release.

Title: Operation Zero Tolerance a Success

Date: Whenever possible

(Local or Galnet)

Description:
As Apalar receives its final deliveries from its traders, the Independent Pilots Consortium draws Operation Zero Tolerance to a close. The I.P.C managed to keep the amount of pirates in the area to a minimum so safe passage could be made through the system and to the starport. Many Commanders were glad of the presence of a bounty hunting force including a Pranav Antal aid convoy delivering the needed materials to the system. Commanders of the Consortium hope to see the Apalar System boom and thrive after its economic upgrade. I.P.C Commanders would like to wishes any and all commanders a safe trip as they move out of Apalar Labours space.

In a highly unusual move, senior Kumo commanders have issued a brief transmission promising safe passage to Utopian vessels operating in Apalar:

"Leave alone those who work for the Simguru, they have left us be and thus have not earned any ire from our Crew."

Traditionally seen as diametrically opposed enemies, Utopia and the Kumo Crew have recently enjoyed a de-escalation of hostilities as Archon Delaine faces the unified onslaught of the Imperial powers.

Utopian officials have expressed cautious optimism: “This recent move shows striving for peace is universal, and the gesture by the Kumo Crew to allow safe passage for Utopian trade vessels is welcomed. Although we do not condone piracy in any form, this courtesy will be noted in future diplomacy”.

Article:

Last night reporters travelled with the first Utopian convoy to Apalar. Forming over HIP 116213, the convoy crossed Kumo space without incident after a surprise declaration promising safe passage. Soon after, ships entered systems held by president Zachary Hudson, the convoy being inspected many times by Federal security. The group then continued onto the crowded system of Apalar. With galactic powers vying for dominance and the threat of piracy, traders were uneasy. Patrolling mercenaries provided a visible deterrent, the most notable being from the veteran Independent Pilots Consortium. After docking at Svavarsson Terminal, it became clear Apalar had become the focus of galactic powerplay. Regional tensions were high as Apalar stood at a crossroads between a bright future and oblivion. Utopian News Network can report the trade mission was a complete success, and all pilots returned safely to Utopian space.

A bit more info on our selection process

I gather that some of you would like to know a bit more about how we decide which of your submissions to re-post on GalNet. Here’s a bit more info about the process:

- We look for submissions that don’t overlap with, or contradict, our own storylines. We usually have a number of stories running simultaneously, and each of them tends to play out over a number of weeks or months. If a submission contradicts – or predicts – something we’re planning to do in the future, we can’t post it on GalNet.
- We look for submissions that are well written. Don’t worry – it doesn’t have to be a literary masterpiece! But the less editing a piece requires, the more likely it is to be posted on GalNet.
- We look for submissions that are of an appropriate length, and that tell a specific story.

It’s always a good idea to provide a location for your story in the form of a system name, because even if we feel a story isn’t right for the global GalNet page, we might publish it in the local news for the relevant system.

Finally, we always include the name of the commander who submitted the story because it makes it easier to distinguish player-submitted stories from Frontier’s own stories.

I hope that helps!

Title : The White Templars

The order of the White Templar's working from Baal under the banner of A Lavigny-Duval have been working quietly for many years guiding the progress of mankind behind the scenes, it has been decided that they must now become more vocal in their endeavours, so the greater community can see what can be achieved when all pull together as a coercive group. Over the last two weeks they have been working with other groups to end the pirate scourge that has been spreading across our galaxy. This has been achieved by undermining the systems belonging to the dreaded leadership of Archon Delaine. The White Templar's in communication with the Imperial High Command have been taking part in the offensive known as 'The Pegasis Pirate War', they have jumped in to the pirate systems in wings of three and four and laid waste to all ships flying as the Kumo crew and all who support them. Flying under the banner of the Empire and our Lady A Lavigny-Duval they have been instrumental in reducing the pirate threat in many systems and will continue to do so while they feel the good of mankind is under threat. Long live the Empire, Long rein our lady A Lavigny-Duval.

Title: Imperial Citizenry Pays Tribute to Late Emperor

Description:

Far beyond the outpourings of grief at the Hall of Martyrs, Imperial citizens across the Empire have been paying tribute to the late Emperor. Many local system authorities have announced the renaming of landmarks and buildings in his honour, and a few have commissioned architects and artists to create brand new memorials in local capitals. The grandest of these designs is being commissioned by the Facece Empire Party on Topaz, featuring a modernist sculpture of the late Emperor sat atop a triumphal arch in the capital's main square. "This minimalist sculpture will represent the spirit of the late Emperor, and all those who went before him, as caretaker watching over the people," according to the statement released by the Facece Empire Party.

Pilots bars have recently become more akin to literary salons of late, as commanders attempt to unravel the mystery behind Brendan Paul Darius' motives, and determine the existence of a possible mastermind behind the shocking assassination.

Perhaps the greatest tributes of all have come in from the ordinary Imperial citizenry, report the Office of Imperial Statistics. In the days since the Emperor's death, the OIS reports an upsurge of 16% in newborn males being named "Hengist", reflecting the populace's great affection for their late head of state.
