Title: Sagittarius A* - The New Vacation Spot Of The Galaxy

For many the hustle and bustle which is the sea of humanity from Lave to Mikunn is something to be escaped. Commanders select the exotic sight of Sagitrarius A* to relax, take a break and open up a canister of beer.

Language is no barrier as pilots turn to translators when welcoming visitors from afar. As with any destination, fuel can sometimes be a problem, but friendlies like Commander Metta have it all figured out. "I store Fuel Rat limpets for deep space rescue and provide beer, liquor and rares to explorers that celebrate making it to the core."
An epic community of likeminded individuals at the center of the galaxy is a far cry from the intense politics of the superpowers.

It's a journey not to be undertaken lightly and often takes 2 weeks or more. But perhaps you want a rest from the constant wars, bounties and trading. Sagittarius A* might just be the perfect vacation spot.

Title: Faulcon DeLacy Announces New Cobra Design
Location: Galnet

In celebration of over two hundred years in service, Faulcon DeLacy have announced that production has begun on a limited number of special Cobras. Dubbed the Cobra Mk IV, it features cutting edge technology in a classic profile.

Speaking at a press event, project manager Bradford Nelson of Faulcon DeLacy enthused about the new design. “The Cobra is quite possibly the most iconic ship in space. It’s practically synonymous with the image of commanders from the Pilot’s Federation, and nearly every pilot of note has flown in one at some point during their careers. Asking our engineers to improve on this design felt like asking somebody to improve on the Mona Lisa, but they did it, and I couldn't be any more proud of the result.”

The company stresses however that this will be an incredibly limited production run. The opportunity to purchase a Cobra Mk IV will be determined on a first-come first-served basis, and pilots are advised to make their interest known as soon as possible.

Title: Interstellar Press Announces New Acquisitions
Location: not local, please publish to Galnet if possible.

Description:

Interstellar Press, arguably the galaxy’s fastest-growing publishing conglomerate, has disclosed details on its latest round of acquisitions.

Speaking at a press conference on New Caledonia in Alkaid, an I.P. spokesperson outlined takeovers that add to the multimedia juggernaut’s portfolio.

I.P. now holds controlling stakes in news distribution channels throughout space. Included on the list are stalwarts of news from all major superpowers – the Federation’s Times of Mars, the Empire’s Capitol Herald, the Alliance’s Alioth Guardian - and a plethora of other entities associated with special interests groups - including this very publication.

Despite strong assurances that the independence of subsidiaries is to be respected, news of Interstellar Press’s sudden expansion unsettled some observers. Speaking at the University of He Bo, acclaimed sociologist Dr Jean Minns explained, “Such a concentration of media ownership isn't necessarily a good thing for galactic journalism,” she continued, “It remains to be seen if I.P.’s Board can be trusted to manage news outlets at arm’s length, giving them the freedom they and their readers deserve.”

Others welcomed the announcement, “I get frustrated accessing news over GalNet in my ship – reading stories from inhabited space is a lifeline to me, but standards seem to vary between outlets hosted over the service.” said one deep-space explorer, “Maybe I.P. will hold editors to higher standards? Perhaps I’ve been out exploring for too long, but poor grammar really bothers me.”

In a separate statement Interstellar Press announced a number of openings for freelance contributors – interested parties are encouraged to contact the Interstellar Press Office for assignments.

Title: Federation Continues Debate on War
Location: Preferably Galnet but Sol or any other major Federation hub would work.

Dissent is growing within Federation congress over the situation in the Pegasi sector. Though many view the Pegasi Pirate War as a chance to let the Empire waste their resources, a growing contingent have grown frustrated with the Federation’s lack of response.

"Tolerating such rampant lawlessness in our sphere of influence makes us look increasingly less. If we don’t react with a show of force, it’s an open invitation for every would-be warlord to subjugate Federation space.” Congressman McRand argued in congress today.

“Involving ourselves in the same war as the Empire is just asking for a security and diplomatic nightmare. Frankly, I trust these Empire pilots barely more than Archon Delaine.” responded Congresswoman Faye.

Debate continues in Congress over taking a more active stance in the war. At last count, over 140 Federation systems and 89 billion citizens were under Kumo Crew control.

Title: Winters Stays Cool After Public Slur

Description:

Following Felicia Winters' appearance on Federation evening politics show HARD Talk, in which the Shadow President left the show's host Lance Brassempton speechless after deconstructing his argument to further scrap Federal citizen welfare, the notorious conservative commentator took to social media in what many are calling a poorly judged display of a sore loser. Mr. Brassempton made several remarks about the Shadow President that are unpublishable, but was received with such opprobrium that he has since deleted them.

An aide from Felicia Winters' office stated: "What Mr. Brassempton is actually saying is that what he really wants the Shadow President to shut is her mouth. It's unbelievable, in this day and age, that a public commentator should cast slurs upon her character, instead of engaging with her politics. This sort of discriminatory behaviour is unacceptable."

Mr. Brassempton was seen entering a meeting with network bosses this morning looking tense and pale. Meanwhile, Shadow President Winters appeared calm and unruffled as she attended the graduation of students at Taylor Colony University, of which she is an alumna, giving a brief speech of well-wishing to the new graduates.

Alas, I "must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Commander Starcloak again."

I gather that some of you would like to know a bit more about how we decide which of your submissions to re-post on GalNet. Here’s a bit more info about the process:

- We look for submissions that don’t overlap with, or contradict, our own storylines. We usually have a number of stories running simultaneously, and each of them tends to play out over a number of weeks or months. If a submission contradicts – or predicts – something we’re planning to do in the future, we can’t post it on GalNet.
- We look for submissions that are well written. Don’t worry – it doesn’t have to be a literary masterpiece! But the less editing a piece requires, the more likely it is to be posted on GalNet.
- We look for submissions that are of an appropriate length, and that tell a specific story.

It’s always a good idea to provide a location for your story in the form of a system name, because even if we feel a story isn’t right for the global GalNet page, we might publish it in the local news for the relevant system.

Finally, we always include the name of the commander who submitted the story because it makes it easier to distinguish player-submitted stories from Frontier’s own stories.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for putting out the pieces with a byline! That's something that needed doing since this started!

I gotta say, if this article is published, it'll really rub me the wrong way. I must ask, how would you feel if I had that same article published, but with the following revisions?

Title: Refugee Crisis at He Xians

As part of a new series of features investigating the plight of those less fortunate souls in the galaxy, Sentient Life Magazine's roaming reporter brings us this harrowing story from the war-torn Pegasi Sector:

Leaving the cargo dock at Kraft Port I ran into a small brown haired girl, crouching in a corner and hugging her knees, shoulders shaking. I leant down and asked her what was wrong.

Sorrowful brown eyes look up at me. Her father had died, she said, when an Imperial wing attacked his ship. A Kumo Crew strike ship Commander, he was also a loyal Imperial citizen, well rewarded for his service to Archon Delaine.

Pa loved the Emperor, she told me, so why did the Duval wing kill him? 200 light years they travelled for this, to liberate fellow Imperial citizens.

‘It didn’t do my Pa any good.’ she said. ‘We are better off with the Kumo Crew, they rewarded Pa for his work and we had a good life. He would still be alive now if it wasn’t for the war.”

I sighed and pushed some credits into her hand, wishing her well. The station was inundated with refugees running, searching for somewhere safe. ‘You can’t fight a flood,’ I thought, ‘but at least this child will eat today.’

Title: Garrison Supplies Found in Criminal Hands

Description:
Numerous civil wars have raged between criminal groups and system governments throughout Senator Lavigny-Duval’s jurisdiction during the past month. Corrupt governments and cartels have been overthrown in many instances. The most noted of these conflicts pitted Kamadhenu Netcoms Corporation against the Gold Drug Empire. Investigations into the civil wars have discovered disturbing connections. Many confiscated weapons and munitions bear serial numbers of garrison supplies allocated to systems in the Narakapani region.

Senator Lavigny-Duval has dispatched teams of Inquisitors to Narakapani to investigate. Findings are still pending, but all evidence currently points to internal corruption in the Narakapani region.

Commander Name:
Corrigendum | Lavigny's Legion

Special note:
This is the introductory article to a series of articles we hope will lead into a community goal. The details of the CG are still being worked on, but should be ready in a few weeks. I'd be happy to discuss this series of articles/the CG concept with the FD Design/Plot team via PM if desired.

Title: Democracy Threatened in Old Worlds

Allegations have surfaced from sources close to the Prime Minister’s office that unnamed organizations within the Pilots Federation are deliberately undermining democratic factions in the Old Worlds. These groups are allegedly scheming to push corporate governments into power to strengthen trade agreements with Alioth.

The Lave system appears to be the latest victim of these concerted efforts. With support from independent pilots, the incorporated Lave Fortune Organization has become the most influential faction in the system. If they are successful, Lave would become the third system in the cluster, after Leesti and Reorte, to have its democratic government overthrown by a corporation.

The rise of the Alliance as a galactic power has brought prosperity to the Old Worlds, but commentators fear that its basic principles are being sacrificed by Edmund Mahon to protect trade interests. The Prime Minister’s office has yet to respond officially to these allegations.

Children of Liberty offer prescription for Empire's future

- Description

The group known as the 'Children of Liberty' has released another public statement today, this time addressing what it sees as the "crossroads" the Empire finds itself at in the wake of the assassination of Emperor Hengist Duval.

"Everyone can see that the Empire is at a crossroads, but it is not just a question of who will lead the Empire - It is a question of whether that leader will actually be answerable to their people. The Empire was founded on the principles of representative democracy, one where senators duly elected by the people carried out the peoples' will. Marlin Duval would be ashamed of how her noble vision has been twisted and corrupted by her brother and his progeny."

The statement went on to lament that none of the current claimants seem very qualified to help "restore liberty and honor" to the Empire, although the statement does claim that "ironically enough, Aisling Duval embraces the most democratic methods, and goals, of all the claimants. Perhaps if she embraced the goal of returning the Empire to its democratic roots, the lovers of freedom in this galaxy would have someone they could actually support."

Title: Illegal Tournament to Honour the Emperor
Time: As soon as possible please! (before Saturday)

A word has reached our anonymous reporter Rhea Ayase, that the underground Fight Club will be held in honour of the late Emperor Hengist Duval. She mentioned "Sadly I was unable to find out any further information, as only very few know where and when will this highly explosive entertainment take place. I was unable to reach the officials of the XYZ Black Fleet, who are rumoured to be behind it."

Spokesperson from the eXplorers of Year Zero commented on the involvement of their fleet: "We do not bother ourselves with illegal tournaments."

Admiral Brice, who is in charge of the Imperial Fleet stationed in the rumoured area, had this to say: "Imperial Citizens can remain calm. The security forces will not tolerate any illegal activities.

...if possible, i would rather have it without the CMDR Name at the end :)

Title: Hudson Orders Private Contractors to Pegasi Sector

Since the initiation of the Pegasi Pirate War (formerly known as Operation Davy Jones) the Federation has been criticized by its own citizens and the Empire for taking a hands-off approach to dealing with the Kumo Crew.

Many Federation-aligned systems lie within Kumo Crew-occupied space, a fact that is not lost on Federal leadership. Reluctant to issue any public statements or proclamations regarding the Kumo Crew, President Hudson has reportedly ordered private military contractors to those systems in order to act in a defensive role.

When pressed for clarification, a spokesman for the President was quoted as saying: “From a moral standpoint, the Kumo Crew’s involvement in human trafficking, slavery, and piracy is abhorrent. However, President Hudson is reluctant to commit the Federal Navy to deal with the Kumo Crew, citing his predecessor’s overuse of force to achieve her ends at the cost of thousands of innocent lives. The private security forces being deployed to those systems are to act as a deterrent to both Kumo Crew and Imperial forces. They report directly to the governors of those systems.”

The spokesman went on, adding: “The Empire, which is notorious for its own brand of slavery, has repeatedly attempted to goad us into supporting their attempt to drive out the “wrong” kind of slavery. To the Federation, there is no distinction. Joining what has effectively become a moral crusade on the part of the Empire would be construed as an endorsement of their actions and their institution.”

Meanwhile, defense analysts have speculated that a recent uptick in reports of FEDSOD activity in systems aligned to Senator Zemina Torval could be a sign that the Federation is attempting to cut the cancer out at its source. It is believed that by neutralizing the systems under her control, it will deprive the Kumo Crew of their main source of readily-available income.

Title: In Other News.........

Location: any non GalNet outlet

Accusations of bias rocked the world of journalism today when several media outlets accused GalNet of selling out.

Journalists slammed senior GalNet editors, accusing them of endorsing pro-Empire stories in return for Imperial favours, all the time ignoring other galactic events.

Del Malik, based in Alioth, released this explosive statement:
“The galactic public need balanced coverage, not this one sided propaganda machine! If you believed all you saw on GalNet, you would think the whole galaxy belonged to the Empire and everything revolved around Capitol”.

Speaking poolside in a luxury villa on Eotienses, one anonymous GalNet editor fired back:
“I vehemently deny any bias in GalNet. We are a quality news outlet that has built its reputation on rigorous, balanced reporting with a strong moral ethic”.

What about the villa and Imperial slaves?

“It is mere coincidence and good fortune that I took possession of this villa, along with stress consultants Clonia and Chania. These beautiful and highly skilled individuals have become a delightful part of my busy life and are in no way related to any editorial decisions made by GalNet".
