Title: Calls for Imperial Slavers Association to investigate Kappa Fornacis Black Market Slave trade

Description:
Calls for Imperial Slavers Association to investigate Kappa Fornacis, after evidence has surfaced that Imperial Slaves are being trafficked to outside the Jurisdiction of the Empire

When the East India Company's take over of the Kappa Fornacis system, the institution of Imperial Slavery came with them, and apart from the normal teething problems with any change of regime, there have been no notable problems until the Drug Empire of Xelabara recently issued a request for Onion Head.

Onion Head is the main cash crop of the Kappa Fornacis system and its trade is legal within the Empire; the problem however, is unscrupulous Pilots whom have also been buying up the Contracts of Imperial slaves on Harvest port, and rather than delivering them to Imperial Colonies where they can work off their debt, the unfortunate Imperial Citizens find themselves sold at the Drug Empire of Xelabara's Black-markets.

Imperial Slavers Association issued the following reminder:

“The sale of Imperial Slaves outside of the borders of Imperial space is strictly prohibited by order of the Senate. Any members of the ISA found engaging in such activity will be removed from the guild and reported to the appropriate authorities.”

Can I ask if there is anything I could improve in my news here or is it just a rule not to include player faction related news?

There are no restrictions on submitting stories about player factions.

Unfortunately we don’t have time to give detailed feedback on writers’ submissions. Exceptions are sometimes made when a submission requires only a small change in order to be suitable for publication (and when the revision is unambiguous in nature), but we’re not able to engage in potentially lengthy discussions about specific stories. The best advice I can give is to refer to the submission guidelines at the top of this thread.

Honestly, detailed feedback would be unnecessary. A two to four word rejoinder in a PM might go a long way however to help authors reshape future submissions into something more useable:
Too Long
Too Short
Too Silly
Lacks Detail
Breaks Canon
Coarse Language
Conflicts with Storylines
Fudge Popsicle
Bad Spelling
Split Infinitive

Something like that would be helpful indeed, especially for people like me to whom English language is a foreign one :)

If I could offer some feedback, I'd suggest specifying what Aba Hal Jek is the leader of, to give readers some context. This is something real-life news stories always do, even in the case of well-known figures (‘Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’; ‘Prime Minister David Cameron’, etc.), so it’s a good practice to adopt when writing for GalNet. I mention it only because otherwise the article is good, and perfectly suitable for publication.

Ha ha! The minute I submitted it I thought 'I forgot to mention the goverments name!'

Thanks for reminding me! I'll add it and resubmit it. I'll also summarize your points and put them as feedback/ guidance on the Interstellar Press.

Am sincerely hoping that this will fit with the whole station malfunction story, since you guys so cunningly referenced us yesterday - hence we'd like Global ;)

Title: CIRG Sends Scientists to Bond Hub
Location: Everywhere! :)
Description:

Lisha Paratet, Editor of the Voice of Varati, reports on news of an election success for the Canonn Interstellar Research Group at Bond Hub, Varati.

Mere hours after the CIRG defeated Labour of Varati in the election, I find myself in a hive of activity. More than fifty CIRG scientists have arrived from Thompson Dock, accompanied by tonnes of equipment which is, as I speak, being assembled and installed in makeshift labs.

Prof. D Luffy, lead scientist for the team, explained what they were doing:

“First, we thank the residents of Bond for calling this election, voting for us, and then allowing us to continue our work on the Unknown Artefacts here. We pledged to investigate the station malfunctions that have dominated the news over the past few weeks and, since Bond is affected too, we now have a unique opportunity to put it right at the heart of our research.

Right now, our teams are starting to monitor the station issues side by side with UAs brought straight from the Merope shell, so we can determine the exact nature of the UAs' involvement in these malfunctions.

Already, our preliminary observations are hinting at a potential link, but we need conclusive proof before we can move on.”

When asked how long it would take, he shrugged, then said:

"All I can say is that our engineers tell us that the station might need to follow Weyn Dock in shutting down all but essential services - this would significantly hamper our efforts, so we are working as fast as we possibly can.”

We will continue to monitor the situation, and will bring you news as it happens.

Title: Glorious Leader Slain In Treacherous Attack

Description:

HR 17 Conservatives were in mourning today as its Glorious Leader, Aba Hal Jek, was assassinated aboard Schrodinger City. Eye witnesses say his personal transport exploded on take-off.

Later, thousands of citizens threw flowers onto the docking pad where he was so brutally killed in a spontaneous outpouring of collective grief.

In the absence of a clear successor, Magistrate Prime Seb Malin will become Supreme Leader of the HR 17 Conservative Party. The Magistrate Prime narrowly missed being killed in the same explosion after he was delayed handing out food parcels to needy children. In his first state speech, Supreme Leader warned against our hidden enemies:

"We must be vigilant in these times of upheaval. Our beloved Leader was almost certainly cut down by Utopian Agitators intent on destroying our Party as a prelude to another invasion. Therefore, I have reluctantly taken control of the military, and all citizens must submit to random searches and interviews by the state police so we can find these vermin."

A state funeral for our fallen is scheduled in a week’s time.

Health and long life to our dear Supreme Leader, and glory to HR 17 Conservatives!

Commander Gan

@Ian Dingwall - please note - if you guys are looking at publishing the CIRG one - I've changed the first mention of CIRG to 'Canonn Interstellar Research Group'

The first mention was originally expanded out like that, but I then removed that lead-in paragraph, and forgot to change the first 'CIRG'

Anyway - keep up the great work! :)

Title: Civilised Justice

Description:

An audio interview with one of Archon Delaine’s Kumo Crew, rumoured to be a top lieutenant, is going viral across civilised space. In the recording the anonymous pirate, who identifies himself only by the moniker ‘Blackjack’, reveals why he joined the Kumo Crew.

“Yeah, I was a Lieutenant Commander in the Federal Navy. There was a slave ring operating out of the neighbouring system, someone was coming in and grabbing our people. I was assigned to work with the governor, investigate, and come up with a plan to shut it down. Then the Post Commander tells me to stop digging around, that if I just let it go we can all make some credits. I reported him to the Rear Admiral of the battle group. Turns out he was in on it. Dishonourable discharge, blacklisted from finding honest work; this is how the Federation treats an officer of integrity. This is what they call civilised justice.”

Federal Navy commentators have rubbished the recording as a hoax, but public clamour may prompt an internal investigation.

Galactic Circumnavigation

On May 1st 3301, an Asp Explorer named 'Skyprowler', and piloted by CMDR Katejina, left its berth at the Smethells 56 star system and began one of the most ambitious exploration adventures so far recorded - to circumnavigate the Milky Way Galaxy.

During this epic journey CMDR Katejina traveled through some of the furthest reaches of the galaxy, including the distant Aphelion regions and a visit to Sagittarius A*. The intrepid commander cataloged data on almost 16,000 star systems, traveled in access of 400,000 Light Years around the outer galactic arms, and set a record for one of the longest duration missions to date, standing at 201 consecutive days.

Katejina returned to Frontier borders last week amid congratulations from the exploration community. Her record achievements have been cataloged and will act as an inspiration for all future adventurers who follow in her footsteps.

Title: Snakes on an Orca

Last night the film “Snakes on an Orca” was previewed by lead critics, and members of the cast and crew. In this film snakes are released on an unsuspecting crew to kill a key witness in an upcoming piracy case. According to the director, John Braben, the movie was intended to not only be a comedy but a serious insight to the growing threat of piracy and the Kumo Crew in the galaxy. CMDR Rappy, whom is best known for his pranks involving interdicting people in a sidewinder, Has stated that this film was

Diamond Dispatch: Frogs Foil Federal Flotilla

Gakiutl Gold Electronics and Co will have to find a new place to peddle their wares after a crippling defeat at the hands of Diamond Frogs, the enigmatic mercenary upstarts from 63 G. Capricorni. In an official introduction to the area, Diamond Frogs spokesperson Kermit Laphroaig said "these are some nice offices, you know what? We'll take them." After being informed that the offices were in fact already rented to Gakiutl Gold Electronics & Co., intense fighting ensued.

Routed by highly trained and highly paid Diamond Frog ships ranging from Clippers to Haulers, Gakiutl Gold requested help from the Federal Navy, who dispatched the FNS Damocles, Trander, Medusa, Neptune, and Thanatos to assist in the fighting. It is unknown whether Gakiutl Gold Electronics & Co. will have to pay for or provide replacements for the innumerable heat transfer relays that were destroyed on these ships, but it is anticipated to be reflected in their quarterly statements.

The Federal Navy and Gakiutl Gold fleets thoroughly routed, Diamond Frogs influence in Gakiutl has now soared to new heights, overtaking even the controlling Gakiutl Partnership.

Headline:
Record Number of Crashes in Eravate highlight need for Insurance.

Body:

A series of accidents over the weekend in the Eravate systems is once again highlighting why pilots should not fly without the cost of insurance. On Saturday local authorities at the responded to a record number of Sidewinder crashes at the Cleve Hub.

“It happens more often than people think,” explained Captain Marc Rios. “We get these young pilots, flush with credits, eager to load up their ships with the latest hardware. Then they proceed to fly their Sidewinders into the side of the station. When we arrive to peel them off the wall, they are usually fine. Unfortunately when they realize that they don’t have the credits to rebuy their ship, they just crumple into the fetal position. We had to send a quite a few of them to the station’s Psych Ward over the weekend. Kind of felt sorry for the poor :):):):):):):)s.”

When reached for comment a spokesman for the Insurance Underwriters Association (IUA) stated, “We are in the business of facilitating interstellar trade. However, risk is part of the equation and we expect policy holders to have the common sense not to fly without the necessary credits.”
