- Title: Thrill Seekers In Sol Aim For Massive Hangtime
-Description:
Spirits -and altitudes- were high yesterday in Sol, where we caught up with three Commanders on the heights of Iapetus. Take a look down from atop Mt. Brian-Cohen and its not difficult to see why these self-described "Ridgerunners" choose to take the leap.

"It's a transcendental experience," says M. Inkhura, whose everyday occupation is that of Systems Defense in Dvorsi.

"Theres no war up here, mate." adds W. Sagan, "The only politics on Mt. B-C are the Politics of Plunge!"

"Remember your repair supplies, blokes," cautions CMDR Deadfight. "Bring extra SRVs, cause you're going to lose a few on the mountain! If you want to get the most hangtime, find the sheerest cliff face on the range and point down when thrusting to power away from the side of the mountain. The goal is to make it to the bottom. Extra points for surviving the leap!"

The Commanders' final words on the matter were a scream in unison as they made their next jump away from Mt. Brian-Cohen and straight into our hearts:

"HANGTIME!"

This thread really needs a way to indicate if an article has been rejected for publication rather than having to wait a while and then guess that it's being ignored.

Ian, Michael, or anyone else who may be lurking out there...

I realize this isn't the thread for feature requests (I'll go open one in the appropriate place and link to it here when I get a chance), but for visibility purposes I'm writing it here.

All I want for Christmas is access to the "GalNet archives."

I've noticed the in-game GalNet feed was aggressively truncated a few weeks ago. I am also fearful that the Community Site will be purged with the new year, leaving us to use third-party resources to access old articles as we have with the 3300 articles. I feel it would constitute a great loss to the community to lose access to the stories of the last year from the official GalNet archives.

If it's too late to save the in-game articles (though I really hope there may be a means to pull up old articles in-game in the future), please don't trash the web-based articles. I'd very much like to see the 3300 articles available via the official Community Site was well.

To help make this possible, I'd be willing to collect the articles from 3300 via third-party sites and provide the transcripts for the Community Site (if the originals are no longer available). Perhaps separate pages on the Community Site could be created for each year, which would be accessible via a "3300," "3301," or "3302" button above the months and days of the currently selected year?

EDIT:

I was a good boy and opened up that suggestion thread.

Title: Lugh re-joins the Federation
Date: As soon as possible
Location: GalNet if possible (otherwise Lugh, Nanomam, Rhea, Sol)

Celebration is already underway at Hartsfield Market in the Lugh system, where the Lugh for Equality faction re-gained control over the system of Lugh. As Lugh for for Equality always was in favor of Lugh being a member of the Federation, it came to no surprise, that in the first session of the newly elected Lugh Parliament, an overwhelming majority voted to join the Federation and according treaties were signed quickly by the representatives of Lugh for Equality and federal president Zachary Hudson.
The system of Lugh came to questionable fame in March 3301, when a corporation, the Crimnson State Group did a rebellion and paid independent CMDRs a fortune to fight against the Federal authorities. Ex-president Halsey ordered Farragut battlecruisers to Lugh as a response and a great war for supremacy began, where eventually Crimson State Group was able to hack the systems at Hartsfield Market and therefore gaining control over the system. The Federation withdrew and Crimson State Group won the battle. Eventually Crimson State Group was overthrown by the Dominion of Lugh, who installed a dictatorship in the Lugh system.
Due to the decreasing amount of freedom and the increasing poverty in the system, many people decided to openly declare their support for federal-alligned factions in the system, which eventually led to civil war. While there are still a few skrimishes between the Federal Security Service and the last supportes of the Dominion of Lugh, Hartsfield Market is considered safe due to high presence of Federal Security Ships.
While representatives of Lugh are unable to comment as they are busy celebrating their victory, Zachary Hudson had the following to say: "Today is a great day for democracy and for the Federation. The citizens of Lugh showed us that people can free themselves from the chains of dictatorship and stand up for democracy and freedom. This should be a signal to all the people enslaved in dictatorships elsewhere, that you are able to change the conditions you live in and therefore change the universe, even if it's just a tiny bit. You can either continue to live under the chains of slavery or support your local federal faction in a fight for freedom and wealth. Rise up against dictatorships! Rise up against slavery! Rise up now!"

Title: Federal System Burns, Governor Killed

Description:

Governor Neil Chong, of the Social VVO 19 for Equality party, has been confirmed as amongst the dead in what has been described as a brutal attack on Meade Port by forces suspected to be with Archon Delaine’s Kumo Crew.

Witnesses described how a Federal Corvette, flying the colours of Captain Oliver Jackson, arrived at Meade Port to collect a ransom of the governor’s children. The following day Governor Chong’s office released a statement that Captain Jackson had been brought to trial on charges of piracy, kidnapping, and murder. The trial was brought to an abrupt halt by the arrival of three heavily armed Anacondas followed by power failures across Meade Port, during which the prisoner absconded and 55 were killed in the fighting that ensued. A new viral recording was released shortly afterwards which appears to confirm the identity of Kumo lieutenant ‘Blackjack’:

“Chong was traitorous scum! I thought there was still a chance for reconciliation with the Federation, with an old Navy buddy as envoy. Turns out he was the one betrayed me all those years ago. My wife figured it out and he shot her dead! Let VVO 19 burn. Let them all burn!”

Title: Mal-effects of Unknown Artefacts continue to spread, first organic subjects confirmed in Varati.

After weeks of speculation on the link between sales of Unknown Artefacts and the malfunctions at several space ports throughout the galaxy, the Voice of Varati has now learnt of the first confirmed case of organic malfunctions linked to the UAs.

A brief perusal of the historical document: "UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn" reveals the true horror of the situation. Previously renowned and respected members of the scientific, technical and linguistic communities have been reduced to communicating in silly, child-like sentences. In the place of forensic investigation and data-based extrapolation, we now have but talk of cookies, scones, pop-culture and pants-related accidents.

Some would say the link with the UAs is anecdotal, but The Voice has learned from sources close to The Canonn that all those effected have had long-term, first-hand exposure to the UAs.

It's understood the only scientific paper published by The Canonn in the last 6 months has been "Since the Average Human Being has Half a [lady-part] and half a [man thing], Where are those people?" - which has met with widespread scorn and derision from the scientific community, along with record ratings for the Fox Holovision Network.

When pressed for comment on these disturbing changes, and the link with the UAs, a spokesperson for The Canonn had this to say: "Wibble".

The Voice will continue to monitor and report on this worrying trend.

TITLE: Reynhardt Intellisys Reports Record Profits

DESCRIPTION:
In a recent Q&A session in Zaonce, Franz Reynhardt, CEO of Reynhardt Intellisys, was queried in regards to the performance of his company during a time of economic strain throughout much of civilized space.

“It comes as no surprise to me that the Alliance’s economic outlook is so favorable during this time of strife for many major corporations, including Sirius. Regulations within the Alliance are highly favorable for business, and Reynhardt Intellisys has been highly favored indeed.”

“During the second quarter of 3301, Reynhardt Intellisys posted an operating loss of approximately 5,000,000,000,000 credits within our wholly-owned subsidiary, Utopixx Entertainment.”

Franz paused momentarily and continued, “I am pleased to announce that Utopixx Entertainment has turned record profits since that time, bringing in over 11,000,000,000,000 credits, primarily derived from the sale of CQC sims and equipment.”

Franz's remarks were cut short by thunderous applause. Reynhardt Intellisys stocks were sent soaring with the news.

- Title : Void's Brink : Gazing into the Abyss

- Description :
The First Great Expedition and the Institute of Galactic Exploration and Research today announced a joint project that will literally push them over the edge.

The FGE name is forever linked with Sagittarius A* thanks to 'the 34th century's Neil Armstrong' Cmdr Zulu Romeo, who was the first human to reach the galactic core.

Now Cmdr Marlon Blake continues that FGE tradition with the discovery of an Earth-like World he's dubbed "Void's Brink" in Chanoa QK-C d14-0 at the tip of the Perseus Arm.

An FGE-IGER Consortium spokesman said: "Exploration is humanity's destiny. We look to the horizon, pushing beyond it in our quest for knowledge. Planet Void's Brink is the galaxy's horizon. And what lies beyond? The observatory we establish at Void's Brink will study the void and hopefully answer that question."

It's a bold venture, and GalNet hopes the FGE-IGER Consortium remembers the words of ancient philosopher Nietzsche: 'Take care when you gaze into the abyss, for the abyss gazes also into you'.
