Please advise me on what ship I should take on DW3, if/when it happens

Why not both? Carrier is only limited to 40 ships per person, not the total number, so players can bring an explorer, a miner, a jack of all trades etc. So the correct answer is, why not both?
That's my thought too.

I'm on a shakedown cruise in a newly built Mandalay atm, and it's too good to leave behind quite frankly.

My trusty Adder carried me to Sag A and Colonia for the first time however, so she'll definitely be coming along too (some build decisions there, boost speed is so weight sensitive).

I also love my Fripper, but she'd need a complete rework to make the distances. (Thinking about that one. )

Also kind of assuming a mining ship might be needed (or at least polite). Even if there's no mining content, the expedition carriers will need Tritium I imagine.

Well, I've nearly managed to wear it all off, but we need to do tests, does paint wear faster in SCO or regular SC? I haven't seen any studies of that subject yet!
Well it certainly encourages us to head out to the distant bodies and we're able to do so more often in a given time. So I'm certainly seeing silver appear faster than I did prior to SCO.

Since current info states that we'll have carriers on the trip, it almost won't matter - I'd say any ship can be outfitted, even without engineering and Guardians, to catch up with a carrier.
For me, currently (as I hope FD will release a couple more ships during the next year) the top contenders are:
  • CMV as all-round runabout because SCO
  • two or three sideys for close by groundwork and shenanigans
  • perhaps one somewhat more serious close range combat ship, but that'll depend on where I get with engineers and guardians during the next year. My first CMDR is currently buckyballing back to the CG (after I was absent from the game for a few months - 86 jumps to go, but unfortunately in a DBX). Once I drop explo and bio, I'll transfer the cash to my carrier (different CMDR) and do a reset, starting back again and, this time, intending to pick up that ground mission stuff.

I really enjoyed watching Anaconda's fall from the sky on DW2 on that high G planet with the tourist beacon, think it was called "the view"

Probably one of my standouts from DW2

I vote the Anaconda

Basically I’m down to 2 options at this point:

1) My Anaconda “Intrepid”. I’m leaning heavily towards taking this ship because I took her on DW2 and there’s all the nostalgia - this alone might make the decision in the end. She’s been all over the galaxy and she’s fully loaded. 2x AFMUs (yes I know 1 is sufficient but I have room), c4 corrosion resistant cargo rack, SRV, repair limpet, heat sinks, fuel transfer limpet, research limpet, shield, detailed surface scanner, and a collector limpet which is not expected to be needed. 82+ LY jump range.

2) Mandalay. Things in favor of this ship are running cooler (but Intrepid doesn’t normally have heat problems), superior SCO performance, better cockpit view, much better SC maneuverability, slightly better jump range (but this doesn’t matter much to me).

What say you?
Cobra Mk5 or my trusty old Python for me

But seriously whatever you like flying best, im nearly at Beagle (yet again) in the Mando, its an amazing explorer, possibly too good, borderline boring.
