As much as I am really disappointed that this Adder looks nothing like the original or the concepts we saw many moons ago I'm not that bothered about renaming it. It looks more like the Haulers more aggressive brother than anything else to me.

Might be an Adder mk III though?

That would be fine with me, other things have been "redesigned" to look nothing like the originals in real life (RIP Nice looking Mitsubishi Colt). I think MK. numbers need to be much more visible in game in general, but especially in this case where the two designs are so radically different.

Given the disparate opinions, perhaps Frontier should rename it the Divider. Then, with the Multipla already spoken for, we would only need a Subtracter for the full set :D

If we don't rename it, it precludes the inclusion of the "correct" adder at a later point. I really want the ship we saw in that concept art to be added at some point, I thought it was lovely.

Just make a new ship called Adder Classic :D And we can have the old design and new both. But yeah I voted to change name and bring back the real adder

Looks fine to me and good representation of the new styles of ships. While it may look not as close to the Adder of old it will fit in with what the adder of old did. I'm a total old school elite player only playing the original so I don’t know if you could pilot the adder in the later games.

Coming from the original I just think all the ships look amazing and real time has been taken with them. They have character and not just been rushed into the game. Can’t wait to see the useable ship count climb and climb to the thirty mark.

Elite has reinvented the very genre it created being the original Space combat 3D game.

This is not a thread about the visual appeal of the Adder, either before, or in, elite dangerous, only about how the disparity in aesthetics between the two versions relates to the name.

What we have now for the Adder just doesn't feel like a combat vessel to me. As another poster said, when I saw one in space it just looked like a Hauler (I actually thought it was maybe a placeholder). If they want to keep this ship design so they aren't wasting effort, call it the Hauler Mark II or something. Maybe make it a hauler for transporting passengers?

The Adder needs to be more angular than this. I just can't see a pirate piloting one of these...

Thanks to its stalk-like mirrors, mammoth glasshouse and the crazy way its bonnet met the windscreen, the Multipla looked like it had been designed by a four-year old.

The original concept art was much cooler, and more akin to the original design (i.e. more boxy)!

That about sums up my thoughts as well. I would have loved to see something like in the concept art, but what was ultimately implemented just looks a tad too "bubbly", even IF this seems to be ZP's style (however, look to the Hauler for how to feature curves whilst maintaining an overall angular shape - I'd actually say the concept art was already perfect and fitting for ZP).

That being said, unless we do get an actual Adder later on, what's the point of a different name? Should Elite really have no Adder at all, even if what we got looks a little weird? Personally, I just don't "get" what having a different name would improve.
I could see the description featuring an MK-suffix like the Viper does, though. That would be the best compromise here, surely - easy to implement, retains the name, whilst still saying that it's not the original design.

It is a fine ship but not the Adder! The concept adder was much better. I would suggest calling the current one Adder Mk2. This would leave the door ajar for the original Adder even if that door were never pushed open...

Well, for what it's worth, I say it should be named as something else... maybe an Adder Mk2 at the very least if not just another version of the Hauler as some suggested. The original Adder, the concept for it in Elite Dangerous and the final result do not match even remotely in any way.

My perspective is that for people like myself, who know the adder from previous games, this one will be a little irritation. Each time I see one, a part of my brain will think "that's not an adder, I don't care what it says".

Changing the name removes that little niggle, and people who are not familiar with the old games won't really care either way, as they don't know the ship, or name.

The way I see it, because it looks different to the adder, calling it an adder makes the game a little worse for people who do know the adder, and no difference for people who don't.
Calling it something else is the same for people who don't know the adder, and also not bad for people who do know it.

It's not win-win, but it's win-neutral to change the name.

If anyone out there is voting no can they please explain why? What does it harm? Why do you want it to be the adder, when it looks so different to the older adder. So we have any adder, even if it's not true to the original?
