Pleiades Colonization!

DISCLAIMER: I'm also okay with a single or a pair of stupid little outposts in Maia or Merope. I'd like something :p

Hello everybody, I've been mulling over the fact that all of the pretty nebulae in Alpha were removed for the sake of realism, because it really does bother me. Why are explorers the only people who get to see the sights?

I think that explorers have enough room to breathe with the entire galaxy simulated 1:1, so I think Human Space should be expanded towards the various Nebulae. The Pleiades Nebula is very beautiful, and the Maia system has mineable planetary rings and high metal content planets, so I think there should be a Community Goal to build a Coriolis station there, and perhaps outposts around the rest of the nebula, with enough options to allow the different types of players (Bounty Hunters, Pirates, Miners, Traders, Etc) to live there comfortably, without needing to get back to the main of human space.

The very first Community Goal after 1.1 considered to build a starport there, but it was New Yembo that was chosen. I propose that FD create a Community Goal to build an Alliance starport in the Maia system around either Maia A 1 or Maia A 4, with a bit of leniency towards the construction, so that the shipyard and outfitting will always have basic mining ships (Adder, Cobra, ASP, and maybe Diamondback :)) and mining lasers, both class 1 and 2.

Does anyone share my vision? I get excited just thinking about flying in the rings of a gas giant with a huge A-class star looming overhead, with pirates and miners flying throughout the rocks, and that black backdrop is no more! :D

Please, bump this post if you agree with me, and want to see this in the game. It's to get FD to notice :) I'd love if they responded.

Updates/Suggestions: If you want to add anything, let me know!

> An outpost or two along the way to the Pleiades for refueling, so small and medium ships don't need a fuel scoop.
> A High Tech station, because it would stink to have to return to human space for anything other than the best ships and upgrades. I guess that's determined by the CG contribution though. They never hit Tier 8 :(
> This "Pleiades Colonization Expedition" could form it's own miniature major power, or perhaps all of the stations aside from a few could share the same controlling faction.
> CMDR 777Driver: Later expansion to other nebulae. For example, criminal activity within the Coalsack, mining within the Orion, Tourism in the California and the Pleiades, etc.
> Perhaps some form of Unknown Artefact could be discovered around the Pleiades area? That would make for an interesting sequence of events.
> CMDR Firlit: Colonizer role, a subcategory of explorer, which looks for colonizable systems and pushes to colonize them.
> CMDR Sandmann: Create new rares in the Pleiades nebula stations, and/or new minable minerals/metals/other for miners heading to the area. (Did you mean other than Painite and Osmium?)
> CMDR Bam: Have a capital ship placed before an outpost/station is built, and allow that to be a place where materials for the outpost can be offloaded. This doesn't seem very good for traders, but miners in the area would have a blast!
> CMDR Defacto: Allow frontier systems to have a true hankering for technologically advanced equipment and goods, as they can't manufacture these things themselves. Also, change them so extraction economies, which would make up the majority of these frontier systems AFAIK, would sell their goods for very low prices, bringing traders to the area.

My Plan for PLEIADES SECTOR HR-W D1-79, or what I shall Washington:

IbyUigS.png

Here is my plan for Maia. I want Erimus to name the Stations and Planets/Stars (Aside from Maia itself). Please excuse the shoddy work, I used paint, I'm no good with Gimp :p

mxhHXUi.png

Hold on, I'll get to the trade route in a minute!

I don't have screenshots of other systems, and got no responses on my request (found above), so I will simply mention the other systems. Sterope II, which only contains a binary white star and what I remember may be a G or K star, could have an anarchist outpost built for the pirates, which I want to be named by Jezzah. If I do get any screenshots of the Pleiades stars, I can further divvy it up between the rest of you lot, and please, if you want a particular system, call dibs!

Now for the trade route. Since Maia will be a High Tech system, and Washington will have Agriculture and Extraction/Refinery, the route will be similar to the Atlantic Slave Trade, without the slaves, a triangle. The Agricultural economy will export foodstuffs to the Extraction/Refinery economy, the Extraction/Refinery economy will export minerals and metals to the High-Tech economy, and the High-Tech economy will export farming machinery to the Agriculture economy. If this makes enough profits, which I would it expect it to in a flourishing fledgling cluster, it will fill the role of producer alongside the miners in the interstellar food chain. Next would be the pirates, and upon that the bounty hunters, and all this leaves room for passenger missions, and perhaps long-distance smuggling, when it's fixed/implemented.

4/5/15 New update! The Merope system is absolutely ripe for expansion, possessing an HMCP and several pristine Metallic/Metal-Rich rings! The last planet isn't mapped because I am lazy! Celeano is also ripe for expansion, containing an asteroid belt and an HMCP with Metallic, Pristine rings. See the new systems here!: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142575&p=2186205

5/5/15 New update! I have mapped the Pleione system, and it seems mining opportunities are pretty good there, but not nearly as great as Merope. Check it out here!: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142575&p=2186205

615/6/15 Thread is brought back to life! With 1.3's Powerplay and mining updates, this could prove even more lucrative and engaging than before. I hope the devs seriously look at this!

Glad to see such quick responses. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what can happen within the Pleiades? Perhaps a smaller version of the Alliance could appear, and live away from the rest of the superpowers. Going to add that to the updates :)

EDIT: The Pleiades Union!

Only if it all goes to the Empire. :D

I'm personally hoping the devs don't allow a single imperial faction into the Pleiades, and disallow the sale of Imperial-style ships. In my own made-up world within Elite, I like to forget that Gutamaya/Saud Krueger ships exist, because when I see them, all I can imagine is hot-pink Lamborghinis with men shouting "I lean the other way!" sticking out the window, :D. My vision is a dark, evil galaxy, but if the devs want the Empire there, who am I to judge.

Currently it seems like ''in-lore'', even small forays into uncivilized space are huge projects that require enormous amounts of resources and investments, rapidly increasing with distance.
This is pretty ridicilous if you consider how a well-equipped ship can travel to the galactic core in a just a few (well, less than hundreds atleast) hours.

I think one thing has to give. Either, going into the unknown should actually be difficult, dangerous and resource intensive, or we should start seeing outposts further away from the populated region, maybe in the pleiades, the orion nebula, or even near the core itself.

The first thing is pretty hard to do, since people already have been to the core and beyond. It would seem strange if this suddenly became a lot more difficult than earlier. I think the second thing makes more sense, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw future colonization projects in the Pleiades and beyond.

And then, we also have some isolated far-away colonies already (Quince for example, and that one is centuries old), so it's not like this thing is impossible in the lore.

Just opened up my client to check Quince :p. Also, you mentioned outposts in the Pleiades, I hope to see at least one Coriolis, and for each starport a new CG could appear, perhaps?

EDIT: I'm going to Quince in a Travel-Fit Hauler :)

Years down the line, it would be pretty cool if certain areas had it's own feel, like leaving the city to head to certain towns or suburbs. Coalsack could become a hive of criminality, a dangerous but profitable place to get narcotics or other illicit goods.

California/Pleiades could be full of rich independent systems, all wanting high class goods and luxury passenger services back to the Capital homeworlds. Parts of Orion could be heavy mining and research areas.

Well human space should be expanding pretty quickly with the recent invention lorewise of the frameshift drive. Perhaps until now it was the calm before the storm..

Exactly. It seems crazy to me that some insane billionaire didn't get to doing this before 3301!

EDIT; Yeah, I forgot about that, JeffRyan.

My guess is that these parts are going to remain backwatery frontiers forever (well for the duration of this game). The world of E:D is pretty static.
However, I agree 100% with your suggestion, and I hope that things will be like that in the future, when we can interact in deeper ways with the environment (economical system, political simulation, events without dev intervention, etc.) and the environment has better ways to convey information and feelings to us (more varied station interiors, cities and starports on planet surfaces, more ''human-like'' NPC's, etc.).

In FE2, the frontier worlds were really anarchic, poor backwaters. I think this region (the edge of the populated ''sphere'') would maybe be a bit firefly-esque, with people mostly importing manufactured goods, and exporting raw materials as well as less legal goods. These systems would not necessarily be pirate-infested, but security would be very weak, so there's a lot of shady dealings going on.

Then there's the scientific outposts, which I think would mostly import supplies.

The Imperial-Federal border is pretty interesting. It's already got some character through events. I imagine that this region would also be pretty criminal, while security also is strong. Lots of smuggling going on between the Imperial, Federal and Independent worlds. There's always someone ready to pay for something illegal, everywhere. At the same time, this region would be heavily militarized, and the general feeling is pretty depressing. People living here would know that if war was ever to erupt, this region would probably be the one that was hit hardest. The memories of the many wars may have faded away a bit, but it's hard to ever forget the billions of lives lost in previous conflict. Lots of emigration to other sectors, but this also means that there's an unusual amount of unexploited opportunities in this region.

Alliance? Nay, Anarchy!
It could always fall to anarchy. :D

I think the colonization expeditions would be funded heavily enough by the superpowers as to remain moderately secure, but the frontier of the populated nebulae as well as the current bubble should be much more dangerous. Sorry if this reply is a bit , I'm listening to Darby o'Gill and it's hard to concentrate :p

Ah that would be so nice! It would be really cool if FD created some form of player-driven colonization. Maybe even add the role of "colonizer" to the explorers. They could search systems near occupied space, searching for areas ripe for colonization. It would have to be pretty tough to find and colonize a system, but it would a lot of depth (and a more tangible purpose) to explorers.
