I could support the OP (maybe) if interstellar autopilot is;

A really really heavy module or
Is a Core Internal module that replaces (and reduces) FSD range or
Is a specialist Thruster module that reduces maneuverability or
Uses material or
Has a heavy signature similar to carrying a valuable cargo or
Raises the Elite ranking of potential NPC interdictions or .....

Why? It is a few lines of code. Now what is the mass of a thousand lines of code - you silly sausage.

I hate to shatter your bubble, but this going to be asked for again and again until it is finally implemented... As for when, only Frontier can answer that question.

Personally, I'd like to see a full autopilot implemented that can fuel scoop and dock at a station. I know that is not a popular choice, but it's mine. Your still making the executive decisions, your still at risk from interdiction, jumping into a binary that cooks your ship, etc etc, but it would take some of the tedium out of exploration. Sorry but pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button, scooping, pressing the jump button...

Is just not good game play!

That's not exploration, it just travelling. There is a difference.

Why .. because (a) this sausage shouldn't play itself (or you'll go blind) and (b) for the advantage of automated flight there's one suggestion, my first, for a drawback?

LOL, that would actually require people to be in front of a screen- which is what they want to avoid with that apparatus anyway! :D

Uses material (?) because .. x-rays from stars, at arrival point, 'tends to degrade' the silicon in the chip, wot steers the ship .. so without a constant supply of fresh silicon, your AFK a/pilot gets progressively more likely to crash you into the star?? I like it! You evil genius you are!.

Yes! It would give me more time to read my book. Its a pain to have to look up, change direction and then go. Surely you'd have such a thing in the future. And if it gets more people into this game all the better. Plus you don't have to use it.

I voted yes, but it must have serious downsides, maybe it only uses economical route hence doing your travel slower, or maybe the autopilot need more time between jumps (let's say 3-5 mins).

As I think of it maybe it only jumps to systems that you have data, that "buy system data" option becomes more relevant, this system data becaming old and you must rebuy when it expires, as the systems is more distant from the bubble this time is smaller, so you get all data to go from sol to beagle point, but the data is only valid for 1 - 3 days for far systems.

Few autopilot advantages for me, all game related. Reading Wanted, watching Obsidian Ant videos, buying new Elite stuff, chatting with my fellow Cmdrs, preparing tea. On very serious note, the social think would benefit a lot from autopilot. And well, the excitement of being attacked while not in control sounds very appealing to me.

On top of that at some point, when we will be able to walk inside the ship do we really have be in pilot chair for it to travel?

There is an autopilot ingame already. Its called getting to the star you plotted a course to.

Thought this was sarcastic at first, realized unfortunately it's not.
Go read your book and concentrate on it totally instead of trying to split your attention.

The Nos thankfully have won this.
Please no more over-simplification of an already simple game.

Well, I disagree, the game need to be FUN and challenging. Now it's not.

The NPC are easy, the overall flight navigation are simply not even close to what it could be.
It's funny when you ask flight simmers they agree with the need of a autopilot as they understand why. However
I firmly believe we will see it, one way or the other, by crewmen like navigators.

If not there are 3rd party tools we can use, but it would be sad to use out of game tools as this is not how it should be.

Wow 19 pages and 400 votes in a very short time.
This subject is always emotive and seems to be the same arguments back and forth. If FD want to make an autopilot they will. And you can chose to not add one to your ship. However I would rather they concentrate on coding more needed stuff first.

I think that's the point where multi crew comes in.

One of them behind the wheel, one behind the pewmachine, and me faffing about with scanners, jacuzi or whatever screenshot ability we'll have by then.

Is just not good game play!

You forgot Honk, check the system map for interesting planets Dedicated exploration goes:
Press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, fly to distant ELW only to find it's a High Metal Content, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, get really bored and scan a gas giant for Ammonia based life, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map, press the jump button, scoop, honk, check system map....

But those steps only apply once you get out of the explored bubble...

I can really see how having an autopilot handle some of the jumping would totally ruin the gaming experience (#sarcasm)

Its very simple to do, around a weekend including pizza and beer, its already possible today with a 3rd party app.

One day when i can get up out of that seat and stratch my aching legs, i will probably need to ''engage auto pilot'' so the ships carrys on its course to the station or what have you walst i deal with the slave riot that has broken out in my cargo hold.

if the flying across the vast space doesn't appeal to you, well- there's plenty other games out there.

I don't necessarily agree with auto-pilot... but they really need to do something about jumponium.

It is a dull thing to do time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time after time...

What we need, really need is more interstellar 'warp' travel type of mechanic. My ship has a jump range of 24ly x 7 jumps worth of fuel, therefore one should expect to be able to make leaps of 168ly (for example). Then refuel, and do another 168 then fuel then do a 168.

I'm not really interested in shortening the time it takes to jump aka x time per ly, just reduce the finger blisters.

Not really interested in autopilot, just for the love of god, jumponium torture is just:
