Population stats: Dodec orbiting a water world vs Tier 3 surface port.

I have a choice to make: place a second Dodec station around a Water World or build a large Tier 3 surface port. All my other stats are maxed out, so I only care about the population.
Is there any statistical data about Tier 3 surface ports regarding this stat?

The orbital T3 ports are significantly better than all current T3 surface ports in terms of population boost, as the surface ports cannot be placed on WW/ELWs which have the big population boosts. So until we can build on WW/ELWs (and possibly ammonia worlds), orbital T3s are the way to go for max population.

An example is Hale Hub, a T3 surface port I built almost half a year back. The system has passed 200 million population, but a T3 around a waterworld would pass that within a week or so.

Nice one, thanks.
I'm working on a huge project, 2 earth worlds and 2 water worlds in the same system.
Since there are 109 slots all together, I could do wonders there, as in 7 large Tier 3 ports.
I'm thinking of placing all 7 around those ELW and WW.
Wow - that's a very rare system! I agree, those ELWs and WWs deserve all the T3s you can give them. :)

Nice grab. How far from the bubble is this system? If you're willing to share the name or a Raven Colonial link I'd love to see this progress!

I got a Dodec on day one and placed it at a WW and already have 300 million, when the BGS tics tonight/this morning I expect about 360-365 million.

My little system has a single WW and seeing it at 300 million populations so quickly will motivate me to one day go out and find a system like yours or with 1 ELW and 2 WWs. When I do finally get a system like that it will be my masterpiece that I will build out over a year or so.

It's Prua Dryoae OC-T c20-6, only 2124LY from Sol.
I want my Tier 3 stations to have as many skins as possible (military, tourist, high tech, agri).
So, based on this wish, this is what this system might look at some point in the future, but it's only the first step:
step 1.png

After reaching that point, I do plan to demolish a few good assets, mostly tier 2 Ody settlements , and build instead T1 surface ports. That will give me the chance to add 2, maybe 3 extra Tier 2 stations (Coriolis), one of them will be a refinery. Yes, I'm leaving the refinery for the end, but it's the only way to maximize the amount of T3 and t2 stations.
I cannot put that into ravencolonial yet though.

This is a huge project, it's going to take a few good months.
In the end, I might end up with one of the most populous systems in the galaxy.

I dropped a Dodec around a Water World in my primary system and I've gone from 36 Million to a little under 400 Million in about five days. It's still growing, and my system's primary economy changed from High Tech/Refinery to Tourism/Agriculture pretty quickly as a result.

7 T3 orbitals will indeed take a while, but a system like that will be among the best in the galaxy for population and a bunch of other things. Go for it!

The first is just done - a large Tier 3 Orbis starport called Lynn City.

When the Dodecs will become free for all, then I'll place the other 6, but meanwhile I'll build the rest of the system.
It's going to take a while, I have to use carriers, since the closest source for colonization mats is almost 400LY away, in Spiral Planetary Sector DL-Y d14 (also built by me).

Apology's if its been posted before but does anyone know the population stats for a Dodec orbiting just a standard body such as an ice world?

No, it wasn't posted yet.
One of my first systems, done over 6 months ago, has 182 million population. No ELW or WW.
It has an Orbis (around a rocky), but it also has 4 x Coriolis station, and 8 outposts, plus 3 surface ports (tier 1).
Those surface ports are also very good for population, after a year they could reach 48 millions each.
So just the Orbis around an rocky it's going to be under 200 million at peak (after a year), maybe.
A Dodec is ~ 1.6 better than an Orbis for population, so, I don't know, maybe it will grow over 200 million, but not over 300.

Can you show a picture of the system (Prua Dryoae OC-T c20-6) as it is now, plus the population?
I went on Inara and it has loads of tier 3 stuff!

Since the Operations Update, the population has frozen in the galaxy, maybe next weekly tick will fix it, otherwise the system should have been close to 10 billion by now.

11 large ports:
  • One Orbis (T3 primary port - built before the age of dodecs)
  • Six Dodecs (T3)
  • One Asteroid Base (T2)
  • Three Coriolis Ports (T2)
43 small orbital outposts (T1)
21 surface starports (T1 with large landing pads)
30 Odyssey settlements
3 Refinery hubs and 2 orbital installations

One of the Starports (Dukaj City) - being owned by an anarchy faction, has all the ships in the game for sale, and all the modules for outfitting. It's just like Jameson Memorial from Shinrarta Dezhra, without the AX modules and weapons, obviously.
Another starport, Arnason City, is a refinery, has everything needed for colonization.

And yes, every large starport is named ".... City", every small orbital outpost is ".....Town", every ground port is "......Landing", and so on.

Amazing, all in one system. I've probably done a similar number (I'd have to do a census) but that's spread over 20 systems.

Thanks for sharing that, it's really impressive!
I've started a system with a twinned earth like and water world so was looking for hints to boost population. I currently have a Dodec round the ELW, a Coriolis round the WW and various orbitals and surface stations built to supply refinery and hi tech stuff. Also have a large Agri ground base (Essential)
I have 1 orbital slot next to the Dodec (ELW) Which I was going to put a medical stn and 2 slots beside the WW to put 2 other orbitals that give high standard of living like government and I think hi tech. Basically to boost to the max the potential population.
Any suggestions welcome

As you all know, the first 15 days after a port is finished the population grows very fast, up to 20% of the max value. In 3 months it will be at ~50%. The population of that port will reach 100% in about a year from its building date.
As far as I can tell even a second port around the same ELW/WW can also greatly boost the population, but I would wait at least 15 days after finishing the first port. I can't give you exact numbers, but after building the second Dodec around the same ELW, in the first 15 days my population increased with more than 370 million as it would have otherwise. I estimate that the second Dodec around that ELW will reach a total pop. of ~2 billion, so maybe close to half of what the first Dodec would reach.

So, to maximize the population levels, built as many as possible High Tier stations around ELWs and WWs. Also the surface ports (Tier 1 with large pads) that only require about 36k tonnes of hauling - are great for population levels, they can add each about 48 million when they reach maturity.
