I think that being able to carry extra ammo in an internal slot would be very useful.an auto loader component that can feed extra purchased ammo to cannons, miniguns and rockets.

If you made an autoloader that could cut open ammunition drums, in a safely enclosed cargo hold, and then feed that ammunition to your weapons in hard vacuum outside, without nasty things happening to your ship?

All the weapons hard points are sealed within the shi[ until firing. It is not inconceivable for a component to access the weapon while it is behind the sealed hardpoint door. Submarines load torpedoes from within and then fire them out into the water don't they? Not much of a stretch for an auto loader to feed a closed hard point.
