Power play? No, thank you!

I'd like to make a statement about power play in general, and I believe I'm not only speaking for our very large squadron, but for all other independent squadrons who refuse to serve the superpowers. Tomorrow, we’re getting an update that will bring PP 2.0. It already didn’t make sense before. Imagine owning 50 systems, and you constantly have players coming in who support, say, the Federation. Your systems are under the control of your independent faction. Yet, to keep control over these systems, you often have to fight off factions that are being pushed against you. As a result, many of our people are hostile to the Federation. Ok, fine. But what’s odd is that when you arrive at your own starport, air traffic control threatens to shoot you down. And why? Because PP takes priority over BGS. Do you know how annoying it is to be treated like a terrorist at your own home stations? We’re not interested in PP at all, yet we’re being dragged into this charade. Alright, now there's going to be an update, and I’m concerned that all starports will be plastered like a Christmas tree with banners from the superpower clowns. If that’s the case, I strongly protest and request at least some filter to turn off this charade, at least when it comes to starport cosmetics. It honestly frustrates me that Fdev ignores BGS players and independent squadrons.

Oh no! Anyway...

You arent exempt from opposition just for being independent. Im federal and we get independent people messing with our bgs all the time. Thats what the system is for. If you want to sniff plants on your peaceful isolated piece of paradise maybe try planet coaster?

isn't your squadron way off in colonia where you don't have to deal with it?

If there's one thing that I hope for in the new colonisation system is that it's system founders have some protection against BGS flag planters. I literally don't care if powerplayers want to move in but I sure as hell don't want some uppity PMF barging in and declaring they "own" the place.
I shall return to Colonia when system building gets in game, then build at least 1 new Anarchy system.
Should be interesting, and yes, would be great to not have flag planters getting their undies in a tangle because there is a system they don't 'own' :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like the sort of question that will hopefully be answered in a later stream. Do these newly colonised systems have their own de novo minor factions, or do they get pulled from whatever already inhabited system is nearest?

You don't own 50 systems, you have forced your hand to control them...

I hope that PP 2 stomps all over your little kingdom...

But then, didn't you used to claim you were the rightful rulers of Colonia? Look where that got you...

I own just one, with my Player Faction on it.

Kept it for 7-8 years (from the time ED started to give systems to players), we made a beginners mistake to expand, and that's when it became a second job.

Now I'm careful to stop before the expansion and enjoy caring for the system. It's manageable if it's only one.
And quite a nice gameplay.

As others have pointed out, being attacked by the PP po-po is only a risk for those who pledge themselves to a Power.

I don't know if PP2.0 still uses the "government ethos" system which was apparently such a source of friction between minor faction supporters and Power Players. Hopefully that's one of the changes that's being made. @Rubbernuke ?

There is no ethos alignment required in PP2.

The only consideration is that any effects from PP2 play will be for the governing faction, both good and bad.

The big advantage for "None of the Above" supporters in Powerplay 2 compared with Powerplay 1 appears to be that it will be far easier to kick a Power out of your space. You'll still need to pledge a flag of convenience to do so, but that's also more straightforward and has fewer consequences for dropping it again or switching it as needed.

Powerplay 1:
- undermine a huge number of Power systems until the Power turmoils
- keep undermining them and hope that they can't recover their economy and your preferred system is one they happen to drop
- repeat over several weeks or months until they finally let go
- continually oppose prepare/expansions because a single success puts them back and you have to start over

Powerplay 2:
- undermine any Fortified or Stronghold systems within 30 LY of your system until they drop to Exploited. Can in theory be done in 1-2 weeks of highly targeted attacks, especially at this early stage when a lot of Powers will have a lot of very poorly-defended systems and sparsely-placed Controls.
- job done, and it'll be tough for them to get back in because you can just stomp the attempt to make a new Fortified system if they try.

So long as your Powerplay 2 pledge is a safely distant one which can't expand to the systems itself, you don't risk them moving in afterwards either if you "overdo" it.

The only consideration is that any effects from PP2 play will be for the governing faction, both good and bad.
Secondary jurisdictions from other-faction-owned stations will attract their own PP2 noise, of course.
