Powerplay 2.0 deep dive - Frontier Live 27th March

Exactly and look how many folks were interested in that

O7
No lobby, no bots, no real connection to the rest of the game, no meaningful rewards,...

There were many reasons, it's not just "people don't like PvP". In the beginning people really liked the idea to be able to have some PvP without having to risk your actual ship. Back in the day, rebuy was something to consider.

Waste of time, CQC failed because not enough players have any interest at all in PvP, no point destroying PP going down that route.
The idea is to get more folks interested in PP, making into a side game like CQC wont solve that.
CQC and other gameplay loops are things that could have a niche following within the elite community if it was just a bit less broken and more convenient or if the players had more control - private CQC servers/matches etc (reasonably whatever is easy to develop here) are things that can let multiplayer games like that eventually be successful thanks to the community even if the devs abandon it.

The lack of interest in PvP gave Fdev no incentive to sort out the issues in CQC, whatever way you dress it up the majority of players don't come to ED for PvP.
And if people did come to Elite for the PvP they would be dissapointed because CQC is bad making it a chicken and egg problem.

Modules should be moved to Tech Brokers and be available only in the systems influenced by the Power originally of that module. Would be cool to have even more of them actually, especially for weapons, to have them in different sizes.

EDIT
Mostly to make the same with Prismatics, which are available in every size.
A huge cytoscrambler? Yes please!

A huge retributor could just mangage cooking a frozen ready meal.....

PvP should be a tool for Powerplay to make it even more enjoyable and we all know what is the only way to "force" the PvP factor. (But I am afraid to even talk about it).

Oh and by PvP I don't mean duels or aiming for the kill: PvP is even just disrupting other players' actions, making them slower or far less effective. PvP kills should not count. And as for the usual stuff like: different time regions etc well... what we should aim is that PEOPLE can match and play together or against each other, not some people in particular.
We should aim for more: more players, more fun, more variability. But the only way to make the game successfull is that players need to see other players in game, that is the only real perception by a customer for a successful and alive game.

I think you're absolutely right, and Frontier may even have said as much regarding CQC if I remember rightly at some point - along the lines of "we'll put more time into fixing it if more people use it".

But which came first, the chicken or the egg? Is PvP niche in Elite because the playerbase by complete coincidence happens to dislike it, or because the game does a poor job of supporting it?

CQC is another feature that absolutely needs a total rework, for example the possibility to use YOUR ships and being able to create combat rooms with peculiar characteristics (type of ships, engineering, even ban some type of modules and/or modifications etc), then find a way to elaborate a "ranking system" and statistics to let you know how really good you are. And yes, without losing credits doing so if you are killed. People would have tons of fun imho. But I am afraid we'd go too much OT talking about CQC in here.

Yep i can see that, im just trying to do what we are all doing here, get more folks interested in PP but locking it behind an Open only area or worse a separate mode will not achieve that goal.
PP needs to be inclusive for everyone in every mode on an equal footing, whether you think that's fair or not, bottom line is we need MORE folks playing PP.
If the numbers don't increase or if Fdev make silly changes that exclude some people (by choice) and it flops there will be no incentive to allocate staff resources to it in the future.

I see plenty of other players in the game - so it must be successful!

You mean a MMO, naturally... I don't see any other players in Skyrim or Fallout 4, both of which are alive and successful

I meant in Open of course, which is the first impact of most players after they are out of the starter systems. :p

Of course in a MMO. It's easy: I buy a new MMO -> don't find anybody online -> game is old, must be dead -> gimme my money back! :D

Last nights stream at the start of the ED portion of the livestream. Arthur was like "see Rubbernuke, DO YOU SEE WE DID SOMETHING? STOP STALKING US"*

*he said this in nice FD language though
WOOO I totally lost that! Was watching the stream with some italian friends and we were talking above it that time! Ahahah
Keep stalking them please. Apparently it only takes them 8-9 years for you to make them work on something! Ahahah

This, and mainly because flying unengineered Sidewinders in a "where is the powerup" type nonsense is not even remotely as entertaining as actual wingfights in rings.

Not only that. Some of those modules are a must have, while most of the others are utterly useless. Prismatic shields, for example, are more useful and valuable than all other PP modules combined.

The epic mining lances vs prismatic shields battle would be hilarious.
It's very simple. Shields are the only module that is not a weapon.
If different powers would give different modules, energy, engines, etc. then everything would not be so clear.
