I meant every word. And I am not the only one who thinks so. This has been an ongoing criticism for a long time so I am a bit bemused you think its insulting nonsense.
They only communicate when they want to or when its to nip something in the bud that they could have quite easily avoided.
This has nothing to do with their secrets and protecting shareholders and investors - its about simple stuff like, "hey guys SDK update is still not quite ready for Powerplay release, sorry to have to make you keep waiting but we will keep you posted when Oculus get back to us!"
We get none of that.
Michael making it part of his dev update was clearly triggered by all the frustration vented in this VR forum along with all our bug reports. Its blatantly obvious and I am not about to pat them on the back for their fantastic VR news update which we had to shout loudly for and had we not done so there would have probably been continued silence on the matter.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure its all down to a ban on DEVS being allowed to comment on the forums. They probably have to get approval before they can post - signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters.
Did you even read what I wrote? You have to understand that they have zero obligation to tell us
anything. And (literally) 99% of companies take full advantage of that fact. These guys are extremely transparent. And just because x amount of people have been thinking it for y amount of time doesn't mean that it's right. Just adds to the insulting nonsense by xy
You act like it's the easiest thing in the world for them to keep us completely updated on every little thing they are working on. But then you go on to say yourself that it's actually extremely hard - it's not because they are lazy or don't care. I HIGHLY doubt Michael said what he said in response to our whining. I seriously bet he would have said it anyway, but you can take your cynical approach if you want. No proof either way. And FYI, it's not only DEVS who are constrained. Everyone in the company has to answer to compliance and shareholders ok? Even Michael. Even Braben.
And stop ignoring the fact that it's NOT because of some arbitrary reasons that they don't tell us everything. There are real legal reasons. And even if not, they are EXTREMELY busy.
I really wish you could comprehend what they do. I've played many games and I'm telling you, they are literally light years ahead. A lot of games get maybe a small patch every 3 months, usually delayed by two weeks. It contains maybe 10 or 15 changes and fixes, 5 of which are actually broken and don't get addressed until the next big patch 3 months later. These guys produce a massive update every 2-3 months, which contains literally hundreds and hundreds of changes. They then release patches every week or so addressing most of the key issues. They are a relatively small team, with a limited budget (backing is long over and there are no subscription fees), and they are doing miracles with an extremely complex and hard to balance game
So please stop this negativity and speculation about how and the reasons as to why they are failing to communicate certain things.
I'm sorry, but it's really hard to see such negativity towards someone you have a lot of gratitude and respect for. Maybe this is your only online/developing game experience so you have nothing to base it on, but if you knew just how much we get, in terms of communication and actual content, you'd know how I feel.
