I own Steam but had the Elite Launcher open. I clicked on update in the Elite launcher and watched it slow to a crawl as everyone else started downloading. It said 2+ hours.

I closed the Elite Launcher. I re-clicked on the icon to open the game in Steam again. Steam gave me the option to Update. This update took < 5 minutes. My guess is that Steam has more servers and therfore faster bandwidth to push out the updates.

1.5Gb in Steam. After it d/l and you have the launcher open, it will sync the files.

Have updated. Launched, preparing shaders for a while. Now at the main menu and cannot connect to edServer: unknown error.

Same here.... they must have opened the update server before the game server has gone live maybe?

when i launch it just says "blah blah update new laucher,download now
hit yes, it downloads and installs then when i launch new launcher it says theres a new launcher...

ive uninstalled game, rebooted....same thing just asks to download new launcher

Maybe? Mine doesn't even say sever error now its just blank in the bottom corner.

I got the 1.5GB update through Steam in about 5 mins or so.
Came down at 5MB/s

Although now I'm stuck in the menu as no server is up yet, I guess it will be shortly.
Will reacquaint myself with the controls after not playing for a couple months in the mean time.

Why do you have to shut down the services..

Let us play locally in our computers. the data may be lost i dont care!
