Ships Pre-engineered modules. Can you help?

Hi all.

I’m hoping that one/some of you might be able to answer a couple of questions I have regarding the pre-engineered modules available at Tech Brokers.
Let’s go straight in:-

HUMAN
  • DSS v1. In what way is this better than a regularly G5 engineered DSS?
  • FSD v1. Looks like it’s still only the Class 5 that is available from Tech Brokers. Are there any plans to add other sizes? And, can you add Experiment Effects to it?
  • Meta alloy HRP. Is this better than a regular G5 engineered HRP for fighting Thargoids? And why?

GUARDIAN
  • Modified Gauss Cannon. Better than regular Gauss Cannon? Why / Why not?

I have had a look over a number of other threads and other internet pages and have some answers (I even tried in-game - what a ridiculous idea!!!) but as always it is never particularly clear.
I am trying to confirm the above so that I am 100% sure I know what I’m doing!

Thanks in advance

meta alloy HRP is useless. The resist is not worth the raw HP you get from a non-meta alloy one.

The DSS v1 has increased probe radius over a G5. I bought one and put it in my Dolphin to use on sightseeing missions. It's excellent, and 'six-probe' rated planets take just 2-3 probes to scan. It's not huge advantage over G5, but it's still moar.

The FSD v1 gives additional jump range through increased optimal mass. It also has fast boot. But some mistake that for faster spool-up time, when it actually means it powers up faster from being shut down, which is situationally useful. Many ships use a class 5 FSD. I bought five of these on discount straight after the CG. They do take experimentals, and depending on ship and build, might add 2-6 light years.

In my DBX this FSD was what was needed to cross the mystical 70-jump threshold. You can compare the optimal mass of the FSD to your best to see the difference. This tech broker FSD does run a little hotter.

Thanks. I’ve only ever used Coriolis, but that’s lacking all the pre-engineered goodies. Looks like I need to switch…

Cheers for that. Think I’ll swap out on my AspX and Phantom. The rest are good enough…

A gauss is like a regular rail and hammer.
Shotguns are like regular shotguns and a peacemaker.
For plasma I have no comparison.

The mat cost is high at the tech broker, but if you can afford it and want the top DSS this is it. It's easy to hit the efficiency bonus with this or a G5, even if the v1 means one less probe now and then. Many commanders go to all lengths to squeeze out every last drop of performance and in that sense it's a good choice, even if it in practical terms it won't make a significant difference over a fully engineered DSS. And of course it comes out of the box ready to roll.

I swapped the FSD in my DBX on Coriolis to see how much gain it had been, and that FSD added 6 light years jump range. I have these in the Orca, the DBX and two Krait IIs. One is unused awaiting mass manager.
