here it is, post 232 in this thread. hope this helps.

Yeah I kept a copy of the post. My problem is that I can't even install the Client launcher at all. So even though its saved to my D HDD, and I give myself full admin rights I still can't see to sort it out. I am wondering if my firewall/Antivirus or something is playing around, but I don't see anything going on with that to tell me it is stopping installation. And I don't like turning off the protection whilst on the net.

So I am stuck, the error message seems to be do with something not being allowed to write a file somewhere, but this has never happened with any other game.

I posted in your other thread that this error can be caused if your anti-vuirus is blocking the install.

Thanks Michael, it was causing a problem is so far as installation was concerned but I am also still getting the following going on when I select the launcher to log in:

On the launcher I get the following
Exception reported requesting current news:
The remote name could not be resolved: 'api.orerve.net'

Then when I click on login, and put in my email and password, from the store site, I get the "Unexepected response from the server: Service unavailable."

So still not much further along, its worth noting that turning off antivirus during installation is one way to solve the problem of installing the launcher, not trying to get it to connect and download the actual game is the next issue to resolve.

Sounds like the launcher isn't getting a connection, is your firewall or Windows Defender blocking it?

I have made sure that the firewall has allowed all items in the Launcher folder to be allowed access to and from the internet. But still the same error.

Strange, something is blocking access somewhere, maybe the DNS isn't being resolved correctly. Anyway I'll have to leave it to the support guys. I assume you've raised a ticket?

Yes mate, but thanks all the same. I've just about got to the limit of what I know I can do. After this I'd need someone to show/tell me what to do.

But thanks all the same

Hi Michael!

Nice to see you are answering a lot of questions on the forum today. :)

There is this one question you seem to have "missed" though...

Here is a small hint...

My gut tells me that if you lost your internet for a week, then it was fixed that it wasn't quite fixed properly. Sounds like something is playing up either with service provider or in your attempts to get the net working after it went down you inadvertently tweaked system settings that have caused protocol problems.

Have you got a 2nd PC, even a rubbish one that you could try the install on and see if that will connect to login, don't matter if capable of playing the game just clears up wether its an ISP or local machine problem.

Actually we moved house and went with a new provider, so that is the reason for the internet being unavailable. Although I wouldn't know how to resolve a DNS problem.

You could try:

Click Start >> Run
Type: CMD and hit enter. You should get a command prompt.
Type: ipconfig /flushdns and press return.
Type: ping api.orerve.net and press return.

This is what I get:
Code:
Pinging api.orerve.net [176.34.190.161] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 176.34.190.161:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

It should be able to resolve the address, although I get no reply back from it.

I find that I can find an active server (even though I don't have access)

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

But ping is denied, which is not unusual for a firewall.

Hey Rog

thanks for the reply. I did what you suggested and this is the response that I got back after flushing DNS like you suggest I pinged and got:

Pinging api.orerve.net [176.34.190.161] with 32 bytes of data:

Wow great news, been messing about with my firewall and somehow have managed to get it sorted and finally the launcher is able to download the client for Premium Beta.

We'll wait and see if it will run ok, but at least it looks like we cleared another hurdle. Hope so anyway.

Thanks all will keep you posted.

Glad you got it sorted! :)

Well further to downloading the install client I had no more problems running through the first scenario.

But here is what I've discovered, playing with keyboard and mouse is hard. Wow its so clumsy, anyone know a good tutorial video and what the optimum keyboard bindings/settings are. I'm all over the place, I was so bad in the second scenario I got killed and just could not get about face once the 'greenhorn' got behind me to defend myself.

Tips for keyboard and mouse most appreciated.

I'm no expert, but what helps is to reduce your speed to about 50% when trying to get behind an enemy. I've bound the 'C' key to this and it helps. There are other tricks that players uses such as turning off the flight assist at certain times - haven't gotten the hang of that yet.

Also practice in the 1st scenario where no-one is shooting at you.

Good idea, when I get a chance I need to go back through some of those early youtube videos that show how to set things up. And also just found the thread with the list of keyboard commands, that are useful to learn with.

I do have an xbox controller, but haven't plugged it in to see if it will work. On one game I used it it didn't seem to want to work, but since installing premium beta, I now realise it might be a firewall/antivirus issue that was upsetting installation.

Anyway thanks for the suggestion, now its just a question of can I get away with stumping up for Alpha.

Ab

So to clarify, if I was to purchase the Premium Beta I would get to download the single player client now and this also includes the season pass?

I just want to make sure I haven't misread anything is all. Really looking forward to playing a decent space sim and I want to try this for myself rather than having to watch YouTube videos. I would have bought the Alpha but that baby was so far out of my price range. The wife may have kittens about this one as well mind. Lol.
