I can understand how this will work for the first Beta as there is no Beta yet. Going forward when Beta is live, how can they run two different versions of Beta along side each other unless they are on different servers? I would (guess) that Beta may be taken down for a few hours with access then limited to Alpha's to 'test' before being released to the masses. This would make more sense than running different versions of Beta for 2 weeks.

Please please please correct me if I have got this all wrong.

Apparently as we are already on May 19, perhaps that the alpha 4 and the pre-beta premium are the same thing?

Thats what I was saying, for the first Beta release it is already Alpha 4.x, but going forward if Alpha is to get Beta 1.1 two weeks before Beta regulars then you would have to run Beta 1.0 and Beta 1.1 along side each other or switch off Beta 1.0 for 2 weeks (restricting PB members from playing). I'm sure once we have Beta 1.1 ready to go, Beta 1.0 will be took offline and 1.1 will be given to Alpha backers for a few hours before being released to all.

As far as I'm aware alpha 4 IS prem beta, for reasons best not started up again.

It'll be interesting to see how it's all handled, because I rather suspect it wasn't terribly well thought through (possible understatement) before the announcement was made.

It's beginning to look an awful lot like SOMEONE is going to be miffed in all this.

If it's as Rog and others have said, and Alpha 4 is the pre-release of Premium Beta, (the likeliest scenario) then there can't realistically be a two week gap every time there's an upgrade. When Premium Beta 2 is ready to roll, it'll likely mean that Premium Beta backers will be locked out for a day or so while the Alphans play about with it before being opened back up again. If that's the case, then I can imagine that quite a few people who were "sold" Alpha access during the last month being rather peeved.

Conversely, if FD want to ensure that those people stay onside, and they shut down Prem Beta 1.0 for a fortnight while the Alphans are playing with Prem Beta 2.0, and Premium Beta users are relegated back to the current single player combat missions, then there'll be an even bigger kerfuffle.

It's like the old saying though - it's impossible to please everybody, and yet remarkably easy to honk everyone off. ;)

I don't see why they can't have two separate master servers running in parallel, one for the beta, and one for the latest (maybe even nightly) build before it gets released into the beta channel.

Sorry, could you point me to the "weeks" thing? I know it has been floating around, but I could not find it anywhere. Neither on the store page for Alpha, nor on the Store page for Premium Beta nor on the kickstarter page.

I decided to buy into Premium Beta while Alpha was still in stock. I would have bought Alpha if there had been any info, that, even after Premium Beta started, premium beta 'buyers' will get it significantly later than those who bought alpha. ;)

I was under the assumption the only 2 week waiting was from Alpha to the first PB release ....everything after that both AB and PB got it at the same time

Does it really matter that much if the Alphas get some possible Betas 2 weeks in advance? Its a big universe and in the scheme of things 2 weeks is peanuts ;)
PS I am a premium beta guy

Would'nt bother me either .....the Alpha guys have done a crackin job so far to get rid of the issues previously and I know ill be too busy when the first Beta drops to be crying in my cockpit because the AB's have a little extra 2 weeks before . At the end of the day they can iron out the issues so I can play a more stable build .

Yea, well, the point is that I'd like to get a little more involved and not be in situations like "That bug has been reported 8 days ago in closed alpha forums" or "that design decision has been discussed right after alpha backers got the new beta build two weeks before you"

If I just wanted to play for fun alone I might just have preordered the release version. ;)

Actually no. I should have bought alpha had I wished to get involved in the alpha phase.

When I had the money to buy one or the other I didn't think it would be worth the difference anymore, since from May the 30th I'd get the same with premium beta. There was nothing on the store page indicating something else.

much appreciated , thinks all Alphas would agree.
the game is awesome , but don't expect a game with out bugs.
beta testing is chapter two.
where you guys get to write reports , welcome to the club.
