After little thinking, bought Premium Beta. I´m sure this will be worth it (and hopefuly my little part will help development). :)

Send her round my house. No, not what you're thinking...

She can chat to my wife while you and I are trying to find Thargoids. Or avoid Thargoids. Or avoid pirates. Or be pirates. Or hunt pirates.

What is it they say about boys never growing up? :)

I'm just ****** to hell that I paid 75 pounds as a backer and I can't upgrade to premium beta in any way.. I have to buy the full 150 pounds to get into premium!

Don't know whether to be gutted or chuffed.

1 week till holiday's. soopa, away from work for a whole week, out walking with my girls and chillaxing. That's soopa.

however, away from the gaming rig, and my beta access is released at the end of next week, on the day I head away. I'm going to miss a whole week of pew pew lazoring Psykokow.

(sorry was that an aim at griefing? nah, it's only kow lol)

Did you email frontier about it?

Yeah I did and they couldn't help its just a downside of the conversion of the systems. My actual value is 50 even though I paid 75. If I had backed 100 I'd have been eligible. I can't just pay the difference and upgrade. Sigh .. I want in so bad but I can't afford it right now. I mean I can but I can't justify it over stuff like fixing our lawn mower or diapers :)

I'm going to shed tears as I watch the live streams

Welcome Kris, I think there will be a lot of new cmdr joining on PB :D
Yeah. I have said it before that in my opinion Premium Beta will be one of biggest tests (so far) for how build and servers handle the playerbase. I´m sure players number increase at least tenfold or even more on 30th May.

I think smart development decisions from Frontier. Widen the game, and availability, all step by step. Hopefuly all the Premium Beta players will make it easier for Beta players, like Alpha players are making now for Premium Beta players.

I backed the game the second I saw it appear on KS, having played the original as a kid on my Electron and then future versions on the Amiga/PC, and checked the frontier site occasionally over the years hoping for news on Elite 4, so I am very much looking forward to this game. However, I do play a wide range of games (and plenty which I buy and never seem to get round to playing :/), so I tend not to go for special editions etc, and so I just got the base game for release.

However, after watching progress and chatting to a few of the guys streaming on Twitch lately, I am really getting tempted to upgrade to the Premium Beta, since if there was ever a game I wouldn't mind throwing a few extra quid to help support it, it's this one :)

Sorry for the opening spiel, it's my first post after lurking here for a while, but I just wanted to clear something up after reading this thread, and that is the suggestion (maybe i've misread) that Beta users will continue to see updates 2 weeks after Alpha users. I can't say that this makes much sense to me, since if you are in the beta then it is there for you to test things, and I can't see much benefit in testing something when there is already a new build out in other testers hands, and you don't know if the things you are testing are changed or not.

I noticed a couple of people say they wouldn't be bothered by waiting the 2 weeks each time, but after watching people play it in Twitch, I know I wouldn't be too thrilled about waiting that time while watching all the new stuff to try out from other people, after being excited about seeing what the latest set of updates are.

I can't imagine that there will be the delay, mainly due to the testing aspect, but can anyone clear this one up for me? :)

2 weeks wait is the interval between Alpha 4 and the start of Premium Beta.

After that, the builds will also be available for alpha testers first but the wait for premium beta testers will be usually few hours, unless there are some serious stability issues that prevent playing.

I disagree greatly.

It makes a lot of sense. When Frontier adds new stuff, or makes changes to build, its smart to release it first to much smaller group of Alpha backers where it is easier to contain any issues. Easier to catch issues/bugs. What they are aiming is to eliminate as much bugs/problems as possible before they release it for wider audience (in current case Premium Beta).

Disagree also that Premium Beta don´t have any "benefit of testing". Opposite of that. With Premium Beta game opens to much greater audience than before. More new hardware and variables. There will be bugs, and problems etc etc. What Premium Beta players will do is make the game ready for even wider release - normal Beta. And when normal Beta arrives, players will make it ready for Gamma and commercial release. Step by step.

I don't know if my other post is due to show up, but after re-reading the OP, it does seem to suggest that it will be a 2 week gap.

Yes, that all makes sense if you compare the Alpha (stage), to Beta1 and then Beta2 etc, but not when you compare groups of people within the same testing phase, which is what I was referring to.

If what fireFly1000 suggested is true (it's only a few hours between), then that sounds reasonable enough to spot major issues that need hotfixing, but 2 weeks just seems far far too long. Even if the updates came a month apart, thats half the time you are spending testing on an out of date build.

edit: seems like my other post got lost in the void, but I basically said that after checking the original post, it does seem to suggest that there will be a 2 week gap going forwards between alpha and beta people (people, not dev stage) for updates. That, or the OP is worded badly, or I fail at reading comprehension. ;)

Want to make sure I understand this.

Once the beta phase starts, all new builds will be available to Alpha backers FIRST, for two weeks, before the beta backers are able to try it? So it's a fragmented beta process? Trying to understand if this is the case and if so what is the point.

Well it was the earlier comments in this thread that piqued my curiosity, and then reading these snippets from the OP :

Alpha contributors get early access to future builds and a lifetime benefit of discounted in-game ship insurance.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have played such an important role in Alpha testing, and I’m very happy that we will continue to benefit from their valuable input as they test Beta builds approximately 2 weeks in advance of release.

The term 'Beta builds' suggests to me that they mean ongoing updates throughout the beta phases. So, I was hoping for clarification on this point.

That is correct, although the time difference will depend on the build. When we prepare a new beta phase it will be tested in alpha first, fixes made as needed and then released into beta. The purpose is to make development and support for the phases easier for the team.

Hi Michael,

Will there be a new build specifically for the Premium Beta, or is the intention that the current Alpha 4 build (currently at 4.03) will be the PB build and the floodgates will simply be opened on the 30th?
