Wish I could join you guys. I've signed up for the standard beta already, but the site still wants me to pay £100.00. Ticket submitted, hope they get back to me soon. :(

As far as I know the discount is applied at checkout stage. When you first add it to your basket, it's £100 as you say - but once you login and go to checkout it subtracts what you've already paid.

I pledged in the Kickstarter though so can't say for absolute certain.

At first it was giving me the discount, but I had to reset my paypal password. After getting my new pass, I found that my basket was empty again. So now, when I add the premium beta, it no longer gives the discount.

Somehow I've mucked something up by screwing around with paypal.

Try clearing your cookies, cache, restart the browser and give it another go.

That discount is valid only once, so as soon you go to checkout-bought the premium or not for some reason-you lose the discount.

Same happened to me, just contact them trough support ticket, Ashley will hook you up for coupon with the same value as your original discount.

Still the same. I've tried with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Does anyone who paid in the kickstarter remember when their payment was made? I could check my bank statement and make sure that I've actually paid for the standard beta.

My account shows that I've ordered the standard beta and the order is 'processing pre-order'. According to the support FAQ, that means that the payment has gone through and was invoiced. So all should be good.

Ah, that's it then. Thanks for the help all.

Hi, I have some questions about Elite: Dangerous and I don't know if this is the right thread to post them, but here goes:

1) In the Beta we will able to buy things like docking computers, galactitc map atualizations and - for bigger ships like the Lakon Type-9 or the Anaconda - point defense weaponry?

2) there is a prevision for when (or if) we will able to customize our ships? I would love to able to baptize my ship "Eureka Maru" or "Serenity" and put on it a painting like those used in bombers during the WWII era. :p

Most likely, during a later point in beta. A PB'er could probably give a more concrete answer.

It's planned, yes, but, AFAIK, Frontier have been mum about when exactly.

In the current test version you can (eventually) buy the bigger ships and different weaponry. There is no docking computer yet and the galactic map doesn't even yet have the system map implemented at the moment.

The "Premium Beta" is really a test harness using modules from the game in development so far to create a mini-taster of the real game so as to test specific modules. At the moment it's ramping up the number of users and a first iteration of trading, hyperspace and supercruise. There is a bit of a game loop in there but it's rudimentary currently. As development goes on more things will be added or changed.

No. At the moment everyone gets a standard model. Remember, this is still relatively early in the development cycle and only the barest minimum has been implemented.

Oh, then how fast are new updates available for the premium beta?? What can we expect?? I'm already in there a make my first steps inside ;) many changed since my C64 Elite :) and some things looks better and have a better resolution....

If it's anything like the alpha stage it's highly variable and depends upon what Frontier need to test.

Usually there are a number of quick iterations after first release to fix highly critical bugs and then a delay of a few weeks while the developers digest the bug reports and work on delivering the next set of modules to test.

Seeing as "Beta 1.00" is effectively "Alpha 4.04", which has gone through the initial fixing stage the next release could be anything between two and six weeks away. The more normal is around a month between major updates going on past history. However, for this stage they may increase the update rate with more incremental additions to the test harness "game".

By the looks of things and the work yet to be done, looks like we'll be in beta for a while, so I'm settling for waiting for any thing from 3 to 5 weeks for the beta 1.1 etc?does any body else still think ED will not be ready in time for the 30th Anniversary of the the original?

Personally I'm loving it :D, I need as much time as possible to hone my combat skills and up my trading knowledge, just wish I stopped losing credits so easily!

The phases of alpha were about 2 months apart, but 3-5 weeks may well be about right. They've had 3 weeks since alpha 4 was released, but we have no idea what is planned for the next release yet, or how far down the line it is. Similarly with all the other features that don't make the next cut. All we know is that there is a lot still to add.

September 14th is a good deadline, but it's impossible to say at this point if they will make it or not. We don't even know if they're even aiming for that.

The current state of the game is definitely what I would call an alpha. There are very major chunks of functionality still missing, apart from the usual lot of random crashes and glitches.

So unless FD want to really rush it, which I sincerely hope they don't, September sounds like a good target for "Standard Beta" to me.

FWIW, in my view this whole thing with the "alpha, beta, gamma" phases is increasingly showing to be confusing with incrementally-released games.

To be honest I have to say I am a little disappointed what Beta means with ED. In effect the real testing is going on with the Alpha team. With the next Beta being the last bug fixed Alpha - is there any real benefit to the developers of the Beta since that code set has already been bug fixed to a large degree? Also any bugs reported by Beta are likely to have been already reported by Alpha weeks before.

Sounds confusing I know, because it is confusing.

Traditionally, a code set moves from Alpha to Beta as it becomes more feature complete. Here in effect Beta is pretty meaningless at this stage as we all look on and drool at the feature set Alpha have for the next month or more then receive more out of date code which is largely redundant now.

Sorry but to be blunt Beta is a paid for demo basically, Alpha is where the testing is at and names should reflect that. Maybe FD find it hard to close Alpha because of the money committed by those good people, whilst meanwhile wanting money in from beta too. Cake and eat it?

Disappointment for me is knowing that there is not a fix around the corner for the crippling graphics bug I have on my 780 and also the entirely too limited four system gank-fest. I know basically it's four to six weeks before we see any of these fixed, I highly doubt FD will bug fix two sets of code, especially when the one in Beta is way out of date. Overall it does lesson the urge to log in at this point.

Just my ten-penneth not flaming or anything - great game and happy to be here (wherever that is). Maybe I am missing the obvious but can anyone give a sound reason why there is still and Alpha at the same time as Beta?

AFAIK Premium Beta and Alpha are now the same thing.

That is to say, as of May 30th Alpha effectively ceased to exist and everyone is now a "beta" tester.

There is no separate Alpha and Beta Stream, from now on "alpha" and "beta" testers will get the same updates at the same time.

It might be easier to think of "premium beta" as Alpha 5, where extra testers were added to those already testing.

Quite. There will not be a separate alpha version until FD release stuff for the next major enhancement (planetary landings, etc). That is probably at least a year away.

So the current Alpha build is exactly the same as the Beta build? Then I was incorrect in my assumption and apologise for my whining.
