Preorder Oddissey

Hey friends,

just decided to preorder Oddissey... but couldn't find an option to buy it for the standalone game... only Steam or Epic. I don't want to move my account to either of them, though.

Isn't it possible to preorder for standalone ED?

Thanks.

It being delayed? Information about it you see as contrary to what you want from it? The Beta test showing problems with it?

Simply buy it the day you intend to download it?
So no risk at all currently with Odyssey then... Delay is only a delay if one has pre-ordered against a set release date, surely?
If one isn't able to decide from the 'in-game footage' along with the current Dev Diary content then naturally they should wait - but if it already appeals, why worry?
Which Beta test? (There is an alpha we are all aware of - and I even paid for the opportunity to engage in it - in advance 😵) Has Frontier announced one?

As with all of us, we have our own prejudices (of which I have many, along with intolerences) so I guess it is the mission of some to ensure their prejudice on any matter is flagrantly diplayed as advice?

Sorry, you're not arguing in good faith. I won't answer that.

But let me turn the question around. What are the benefits of preordering now? If someone absolutely must have the Pioneer Suit (of which we know nothing about), preorder one day from release.
I guess the Alpha will sway some players - which is fine I suppose, even though I personally have problems with paying for a glorified (and most likely horribly buggy) 'demo' - but then I'm well aware I'm part of the problem having bought the Cobra 3 Raider pack for a second time at full-fat price earlier this week (for my alt, and yes it was worth it) so I'm trying to restrain myself making too much noise about that.

Another reason I'm not shelling out for the Alpha is I'm worried the state of it will dampen my enthusiasm for the finished product, and I have zero interest in working for FDev's QA department (presumably it does exist) not only for free, but by me paying them for the privilege. Add to that the fact that any progress made in the Alpha will be lost so I'd just be pottering about for a couple of hours and that's that (this is what happened in prior Betas). Nah.

I will however follow first impressions because I obviously can't wait to see more of what's included, and will 100% buy it on day one (or as you say, 1 day early to nab the suit skin), and not a day earlier as there really is no added benefit in doing so for the standard version at least.

I have pre-ordered. Not sure why people would want to argue over why you should or shouldnt pre order. If someone wants to pre-order thats their decision. If someone doesnt want to pre-order thats also their decision. Its my money to take the risk with, no one elses. (But then i have also put money into star citisen, again another risk but hey ho)

This.

Pre-ordering video games is one of the reasons why publishers can get away with releasing substandard bug-ridden products, and then patch them up "later". If publishers never earned a penny until their game was released, they'd be much more inclined to only release something when its ready, and not before.

If you preorder and end up with a product thats bug-ridden, broken, and not what you expected, you have no cause to complain imo.

i am not sure that follows.
If I was skint and had to put food on the table for my family, I would release a nearly finished product early, rather than waiting for the fully complete. Historically FFE seems like it was a good release, no show stopping bugs. FFE not so much, the publisher was on the verge of going under and needed the eddies, or so the story goes.

Only a slightyl less argumentative note, I blame the Internet!
You can always patch after release (aka game one patch) these days, so deadline can trump quality in pressing the launch button. Get the income fix later.

What, you don't like open-world, loot gathering, base building games that spend 5 years in early access before being canceled? 😅

But I'm afraid I'm going off-topic, this is not directly relevant to Odyssey per se.

Well, you could argue that the more people are fine with pre-ordering a digital product (i.e. stock shortages are no argument here) with barely any rewards over simply purchasing it at launch, the less likely it is for all of us to get better pre-order incentives in the future.
