∞ probes?

Slightly less than zero. FDev did their homework and made their call, supported by the special 17 and reinforced by popular opinion here on the forums and on the poll.

I believe it's inversely proportional to the number of posts asking for finite probes.

I have no opinion on the infiniteness of probes but I think it could be cool to show a little printing graphic. There are some concepts (holograms, printing, neural linking..) that I wish were a little more cohesive.

Isn't the point of beta to try out features?

We are still at the point where everyone's a self-professed expert on probes and how they should work, but nobody has actually tried the new exploration mechanic.

The question was whether FD would change probes to finite. They're not going to.

I skim planetary rings for fun too.

It's one of the few places you actually feel fast in supercruise... Lol

Yeah that's on the list of my many gripes with supercruise. Even with travelling at many times the speed of light it feels like a slow, boring walk down the street to your buddy Jeffrey's house.

"Hi Jeffrey."
"Hey man, what took you so long, you left like an hour ago."
"Yeah.... Sorry Jeffrey."

I don't really think you have any idea whether they will or not.

I'm not expecting them to sure, but given nobody's tried exploration at this time, we have no idea what may and may not work.

I'm keeping an open mind. I'll make my decisions as to what I do and don't like after having tried it, and given it's a beta I'd like to think Frontier will be listening to community feedback and be willing to switch some things out, I'm not going to pre-emptively say what that will or won't be.

I have an inkling what might be a problem for people (and it's not infinite/finite probes) but it's pointless bringing it up till weve played the thing.

I do. It's not going to happen. This is what will happen. We'll test out stuff in the beta, FD will spend a couple weeks fixing reported bugs and crashes. And then it'll go live.

Because a few people care either way, and trolls poke the poop every now and then.

Indeed, atm pages seem to be running at around 2 posts of content to 13 posts of spam.

I've reported posts but I think mods are asleep (or don't care), my understanding of moderation is to facilitate discussion.

Well said this elsewhere but..

This is a very big patch, there are a *lot* of unknowns here.

Taking just exploration, it's very important the mechanic has legs, as in it doesn't start to pee people off after 2 weeks, I think it's vital in fact.

For me if it does quickly become old and frustrate it's failed, given the significant gameplay changes, and the unknowns, I think Frontier have to be willing to rework or rethink features if need be based on feedback.

On Tuesday it simply cannot be, "here this is set in stone were are changing nothing", for the long term health of the game it just can't.

Hopefully Frontier see it this way too, we are not just testing for bugs, we are testing new gameplay mechanics.

People are allowed to be goofy in threads. The mods aren't catholic school nuns.

I didn't say that. But when the spam is so high, it's time mods step in, if you look back over the last few pages there's quite a bit of frustration from posters (not me), that they cannot talk about this topic without being constantly insulted.

Typically FD beta's are for bug testing, not design decisions.

If it gets too out of hand they'll just lock it. Then u can make another one and we'll start over again.
