Problem: Caustic Tissue Sample keeps disappearing from cargo

So now it's the fourth time in a row, that I collected the caustic sample from the caustic emitters in the Titans caustic cloud. I waited until the research limpet was safe on board and the last time now I immediatly confirmed I had it in my hold - and there it was. I sped out of the caustic cloud and cleansed my ship of that caustic goo with a combination of decontamination limpet and heat and was glad to be out of the cloud with 30% hull left. Now I check back into my cargo hold. No caustic tissue sample. Again!

I have caustic resistance cargo rack and also 5D Module Reinforcement. So that's not the problem.

My cargo hatch had some module damage. But not less then 60%. My assumptiun is, that this is the most likely reason I lost my sample. But all my limpet drones where still there, only the sample was missing. And this happened the 4th time in a row. Not likely that it's always a damaged cargo hatch, is it?

Any one else experienceing this?

Also the first time I tried, I managed to get 2 samples in my hold, but got too greedy and exploded my ship on the third attempt.

So that's that. I am clueless what I am doing wrong, or if this is some kind of bug.

Edit:
Next I try to get the caustic goo off only with deco-limpet, so the heat won't damage my internals additionally... maybe that will help. But I am afraid the limpet is doing the job too slow. Really, this drives me nuts. If that's not working, I'll try to get some more Module Reinforcement. But then I am out of ideas.

Edit edit:
I am not even sure if the cargo hatch is an interal or external part of my ship??? But since AFMU can repair it, I guess its internal, right?

I'd record yourself and watch it back to see if you can spot what is happening - I suspect it might be the overheat. You should see the eject being notified top right I think and maybe the sample on the radar. think I might have lost the odd sample, but not 4 in a row.

FC are handy for dumping the samples at between runs as it's easy to lose your ship (until you have a caustic sink)

Thanks for the reply. I am flying a Krait MK2 and yes I will monitor closely what's happening. The timeslot to safely flee the deathcloud after the research limpet has boarded is really thin for me . I just tried to get out of the deathcloud withou the overheating mechanic and failed once again. Ah, this' really a challange.

Sounds like you need more HRP / Hull engineering - care to share your build? Krait should be fine.
I stick very close to the AXI recommended build. Mine is here:

EDSY KRAIT

I don't think there is very much room for optimization. But you're welcome to have a look.

Issues with the build I know:
  • The military grade armor is only engineered grade 4
  • one of the two grad 5 HRPs has layered plating instead of deep plating
  • The AFMU is only 3B, should be 3A

But imho these are only minor issues. But well, maybe I underestimate some effects.

That build looks fine to me. As you know you should mainly be taking hull damage from corrosive - and I don't think that can affect the cargo hatch (overheating will). With that much hull you should be able to get out of the caustic ok. Decon limpets are pretty fast to remove corrosion - as long as you aren't still in the cloud - I tend to keep firing them as I exit.

Even when I've had a hatch blow I've been lucky and just lost limpets, losing a sample 4 times is either unlucky or maybe fdev have broken it recently, might have to collect some more.

good luck!

With recording on, I finally managed to get out of the cloud and keep my sample

Seems that overheating my ship on purpose wasn't the right thing to do. Also I really need to stay as close to the rim of the cloud as possible. One inch to far inside and I can't handle that caustic damage anymore.

Thank's for the heads up Factabulous! I'll keep trying.

Edit: I also just right now learnd that I can cancel a repair limpet by deactivating the module, so I can decontaminate faster. Before I just didn't notice, that the decon-limpet was not working, becouse the repair limpets were still active. Always new things to learn...

Yeah, repair limpets blocking decon is a pain. Especially annoying when an NPC decides to 'help' you by repairing you, and you really want to decontaminate 😬 I hear that ECM will explode nearby limpets if you have that, not tried that myself.
