Problems With the xbox controller

So, i´m not sure this fits here well, but since The oculus comes with this gamepad, maybe someone can help me.

Until i broke it i was using without problems a Logitech Wireless game pad with ED, just as an aditional Joystick when i want to navigate in the Galaxy map, going through menus when docked... etc, for all the rest i have my Hotas.

But now, i´m forced to use the Xbox controller included with my oculus... and this piece of crap shuts off when is not been used for some minutes, no matters how hard i press the Xbox button.. it won´t connect until i restart Windows.

this makes completely unuseful the gamepad for me... any help?

Mine is shutting up frequently as well (usually right after switching it on, and when that happens, it happens continuously). I believe it might be either a battery problem somehow, or something's wrong with the bluetooth connection to the dongle. Using a USB cable helps here when it starts to freak out.

I've found that when mine does this it's either a) it is paired with my son's Xbox in the next room or b) the batteries are low. It's a real PITA sometimes to force it to pair with the wireless adapter and yet other times it works straight away. Using the device setup in Oculus Home has been useful because it's easy to see straight away when it's connected.

I've never trusted Wireless Controllers, according to Oculus Home Devices screen mine had two bits of battery (about 50%) on it when playing War Thunder the controls suddenly went mad mid flight, I quit in rage and fired up Elite only to find the same, changing batteries fixed it. Thankfully I've got a wired controller so tossed the wireless in the cupboard never to see daylight again! As handy as it is to be wireless it's a PITA with AA batteries.

Beh, i tell you i had the f710 gamepad and never had a single problem, but this one from microsoft is just garbage, wish oculus were more picky about what to include in the package.

Will try to sell mine to any Xbox user and go for another Logitech

Thanks for your answers

OK, one update (literally) on this:

When using Windows 10, there seems to be known firmware issue with the controller, causing the auto-switch-off problems

- Open the Windows store and search for "Xbox accessories"
- Download, install
- Connect controller via usb cable
- Start app, it will claim an update is required. Do the update.
- Hope the problem's gone.

Sorry, it isn't gone, posted too early. :(

I always use mine plugged in to the USB hub permanently. It always works and it's not an issue to be "tied" to the desk since the Rift already does that. I would recommend you give it a shot and forget about that wireless crap/battery discharge, etc., distraction. The USB cable is supplied with the unit I think.

I checked the box but all I've got is a Female to Male USB cable that doesn't connect directly to the controller, my wired controller has a 2m long wire anyway so I barely notice it, plus I'll save on batteries!

I'm pretty sure it's not a battery issue by now. Just replaced by fresh batteries and still disconnects. USB is the only reliable way. I now think the receiver is very sensitive to electro smog from the pc where is plugged in. As soon as I find the usb enhancement cable that was delivered with the rift, I'm gonna try to have the receiver away from my pc.

Yes, that's what i finally did, but had to buy the cable.

About the energy option, tried with no success, controller turns off anyway, however, this happens too in other games and if i turn on the gamepad it connects again, but while playing ED, no way.

I don't know if someone use Xbox ELITE controller same as me, but i've problem with it and VR

for example, the RS... if i set it on vertical thruster... works only for down :|

I copy my ED pc control settings to VR, but doesn't works
I reset the RS to control in VR, but half works

i can't go up with it, for example.

I don't know why

I thought that this had solved the problem for me. It seemed like it did until I rebooted....

Also tried removing the driver reinstalling after a reboot. Again seemed to work until I had restarted.

So yes it's broke... [mad]

I think it's built into the wireless units to disconnect if unused to save battery. But good luck anyway.

Why using a separate controller for menu's and galaxy map when you have a Hotas?

found the solution. at least for me

before reactivate the pad, close oculus home
after reactivate the pad
after reopen oculus home

with this my pad stay connected.
