PS4 HOTAS Compatibility Index

Just stating a thread here to list all the HOTAS setups that people have that are compatible with Elite Dangerous. I have the Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 which is officially supported (I *think* from day one, but don't quote me, if anyone does have a quote please chime in (Frontier guys?)). As people confirm after launch what they have working I will add them to this list.

1. Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4

I have the Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X V.4 which I will test on launch day. It's old, but it's nice, and it takes up less room than a full blow HOTAS. If anyone knows this stick not to work, feel free to comment, and provide a tissue for my tears..

PC player here so apologies if it doesn't work out on the day.
I've got a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas 4 as my old T-Flight X gave up the ghost on too many buttons and I needed a replacement that very day.
Major differences from the X to the 4 are 1) it's blue instead of red, 2) the PC/PS3 mode switch is gone, and 3) buttons 10,11,12 are labelled differently.
In every other way that it operates, it is identical.

The big difference for a PC player is that you need to install driver software simply to get it working, where the older X operated from when you first plugged it in.
I imagine that the stick operation on PS4 will simply be plug and play. While I've got the sticks and buttons mapped in ED to control my ship in flight, in an SRV and for the camera suite, I don't have it set up to operate the galaxy map.

I think it is safe to say that the PS4 version of the T-Flight HOTAS is going to work on day 1 out of the box with ED.

[edit] Something I forgot to add is that you can use button combinations to effectively multiply the number of buttons on the stick in ED. I use button 7 as a "shift".
3 set to switch fire group, 7+3 to target next hostile.
4 set to target ahead, 7+4 to target next system in plotted route.
9 set to Boost, 7+9 to activate FSD.
I have button 8 set to activate GUI mode while holding it down, and use the hat switch to switch to menus on left, comms, down and right. Left go of 8 and it reverts to forward view.

12 and hat up to toggle headlights.
12 and hat down to toggle landing gear.
12 and hat left to toggle cargo scoop.
12 and hat right to launch heatsink.

Can't quote tonight but as mentioned above if you're trying the hotas t flight 4 on pc or Mac? You need to dl the latest drivers off the thrustmaster website!

OOlite didn't work for me until I'd dl'd

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but I think we should add "Keyboard" to the list. We know the keyboard works for sending text, etc, but we don't know if it works like on PC for actually controlling the ship. Any keyboard that works with PS4 (I just use a PC USB keyboard) should work the same in ED.

Out of curiosity, you folks playing on PC with HOTAS, do you find the keyboard useful, or do you find it easier just to do everything with the HOTAS and ignore the keyboard except for texting?

I thought it was proven to have less deadzone? Likewise I'm sure I read on a Warthunder forum someone testing and finding similar improvements.

I've got the "4" and find it OK in ED, throttle looseness and lack of buttons would be my main issues.

Yes I read this somewhere. A guy pulled apart both and measured the electrical signals from the board. The 4 was improved over the X.

I resurrected an old thread on HOTAS with some questions, a few of which I think you can answer. Any info you can provide (over on that thread) will be greatly appreciated.

I bought one of these thrustmaster t-flight things, plugged it into the cigarette lighter in my pickup truck, and a thargoid in a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner tried to run me off the road.

I use the keyboard all the time. My main use is jumping; either the J button which automagically chooses the correct version to enter depending on what you have targeted, or the numberpad's / button for when I want to supercruise rather than try to jump (which is needed when your jump target is hidden behind a planet). I also find changing pip allocation and firegroup switching easiest on the keyboard. It's why I bought a keyboard for the PS4 really.

It's my understanding that a key board on ps4 is for text only.

I certainly don't have an issue with that being true, but I'll continue to hope for more functionality :)

If only FD would let us know on all these controller/hotas/keyboard questions. I can't believe they don't already know themselves.

They have but in their own minimalist way which leads to people make wild speculations. I predict;

1) Support for only the HOTAS 4 and DS4 obviously
2) Keyboard support only for chat, no in game functions

These are the known answers.

They do know and most of these questions have been answered:

Controllers available are - the standard PS4 controller (possibly any aftermarket supported version too - much the same as any PS4 game), although the galaxy map is specifically tied to the swipe pad so oyu might want to bear that in mind of you buy an after market alternative that does not have that feature.
The Thrustmaster 4 (possibly new stick in development it Thrustmaster! Exciting news but nothing to announce for launch)
ANY usb keyboard FOR TEXT ENTRY ONLY.

job done.

PC discussion while nice - are invalid.

So, I've played the T flight horas X on Warthunder a long time ago, and when I checked the hat switch didn't work on it. Can someone check on War Thunder for full compatibility? I know it's a bit wonky, but as long as it registers everything we can go from there.

I have the Flight Stick X (a simplified version of what you have) that I'm holding onto until ED releases, just in case. Just because something works in War Thunder doesn't mean it will work in ED. The officially supported HOTAS actually gets a number of bad reviews because so few games support it (thankfully ED is supposed to be one of them). As for the X series.... We'll know in two weeks!

I played Warthunder last night - hat works fine.

Hat in War Thunder works fine.

If you do buy one, then the T.Flight HOTAS4 is meant to work with the following titles:

- Elite: Dangerous
- War Thunder
- EVE: Valkyrie
- Race the sun
- Starblood Arena
- Ace Combat 7

So not just for Elite if you're worried.
