PSA: Open is carnage and I expect them to follow us all the way

Just a little heads up, I have been playing open at WP2 and keeping an eye on the traffic and there are wings of gankers having a great time terrorising explorers. Personally I can avoid/handle the trouble but I feel sorry for the multitudes who will suffer.
No doubt these guys are in it for the long haul and will go all the way for 'the lulz'.

Act accordingly, be prepared and don't come crying when you are faced with the rebuy.

Probably an urban myth, like most tales of "Open being so awful!" tend to be. Perhaps a small grain of truth blown way out of proportion. I'm sure Open is just fine, as long as you keep your wits about you.

Open is not awful, I usually only play open and like you say trouble is easily avoided, I am more thinking of the thousands of players who will not be prepared and suggesting that people should be aware and prepared.

I am guessing most people exploration ships will not survive a barrage from the heavily engineered, wanted, Corvette and Cutter wings I have seen patrolling.
Be prepared.

I think (hope?) people realize by now that flying in open presents it's own unique "opportunities" and understand what they are agreeing to when they click on it.

With the new comms box showing all system chat no matter what mode you are in I can testify that there was much ado about this yesterday evening with several well-known "culprits" on the scene.

(EDSM today shows 56 ships destroyed within 24 hours in the system.)

I normally put the system chat into its own tab to de-clutter the main box from all the edgelord posturing that goes on in there.

I do too. Unfortunately, it's buggy when it comes to the DSS screen. That mode changes the setting temporarily, and screws up the list and such. Comms is very buggy. Need fix!

As always there are parasites latching on to the awesomeness, this time the awesomeness is Distant Worlds. Other times the awesomeness is Fuel Rats. We're seeing awesomeness envy.

We're just part of the eco system, Ziggy. Nature isn't always pretty, but it is what it is. If it were not for predators, the prey animals would over run the planet and eat all of the vegetation. In fact, you guys should be thanking us. If you've ever seen a lion or a polar bear on the hunt, you know how powerful predators can be. Life may well have been troubled by these killer species since its very beginning, over 3.5 billion years ago, and they have wrought untold death and destruction. As a result they get a bad press: even the word "predator" stems from the Latin term to rob or plunder. Small wonder that, when people imagine paradise, it normally doesn't have any predators in it.

But this reputation misses something important: out of predatory destruction, constructive things can emerge. Predators may have played a big role in many of the biggest leaps forward in the history of life, from the origin of animals to the evolution of skeletons. Predation may even have helped shape the evolution of humanity itself, driving us to become ever more intelligent. Now, with that in mind, please enjoy the following video that aptly describes the relationship between explorers and PvPers:

The Bounties post in the News section of the Asteroid base is a good way to see who the top 'emergent play' people are - seems they're doing pretty well.

System Chat was down (for me) last few hours - I only noticed at the end of my mining session, I'd assumed they were on a rest break, but no - system / squadron chat was down :)

It's been confirmed that we're only going to the CG and no further.

I guess we just don't have the "explorer gene" after all.:(

This whole thing is something else.

Jase and Vin get thrown out of a chatbox, and they've been butthurt ever since. The same players who mock people who get upset at losing a pixel spaceship have been trolling the forums and gwanking explorers out of a hissy fit because the organisers showed the kind of foresight they themselves were demanding.

The irony is delicious and is available in bucketloads :) It's a joy to watch.

With the language and tone of your posts and others in this thread, Im considering purchasing shares in the Grief India Company's Salt mines out at WP2.

Hopefully the dividends should mature (unlike 'the victims') and result in enough payout for an extra floor on my house.

Have you been attending the Zarek Null Posting School? :D

True, parasites are a part of nature. You're leeching on to DWE2. DWE2 doesn't need you, you need DWE2. You are DWE2's side show. DWE2 is the main attraction.

Technically, we are *not* parasites, but simple predators taking advantage of an easy meal.

DW2 is just the tool we are using to maneuver our prey into position for the takedown.

With no watchdogs or shepherds to protect them, sheep gonna be sheep.

People clamor for roleplay until it is given to them.

Then they just don't want to participate.

We're gonna RP as bad guys.

They're gonna go play a different game entirely.

We win.

Go ahead. I'd love to see you go 5,000 LYs for that. In fact, I dare you! :)

"I'm off at some organisers, so I'll shoot some players who had nothing to do with it" is such a display of maturity is it?

And the tone you need to put to my posts is a mocking one at this ridiculous situation.
