People clamor for roleplay until it is given to them.

This is the story of the forum crymunity in a nutshell.

'CODE arent really pirates, theyre using weak RP to justify ganking from their parents basement.'
'Imperial players attacking Feds at a CG arent doing this for RP. They're taking a break from drowning kittens in real life to do serious business damage to my e-spaceship.'
'Powerplayers arent really interested in powerplay. Theyre using it as an excuse to justify their 'exploitation' of the mechanic to grief innocent children pledged to rival powers like real life terrorists.'

In ad nausem

Anyone visiting a busy system/station/point of interest/CG/engineer/thing should always be fight or flight ready. Its fine to blow people up in open and large numbers of targets always draws the PK'ers in.

Given there's currently an FDEV confirmed bug where low wake can't be mass locked by other players escaping unscathed is the easiest its ever been.

Youve not won anything, as it seems to have no impact on the expedition at large or its mission. If theres a RP reason for attacking explorers, it hasnt been made clear by anyone. Null's bit about postponing the "heat death of the universe" is pretty weak.

Whats the actual point to it other than frustrating people who'd rather not deal with it?

I'm planning to get shot down. Lots of times if things go well.

I'm planning on not getting shot down, a lot of times, if things go well.

I'd be a bit surprised if they followed the expedition *all the way* frankly.

Most won't, but some certainly will. Just like the core participants.

But eventually combat ships have to repair and rearm, and the nearest place to do that will be an increasingly long trek, especially for a combat-fitted ship.

Synthesis, AFMUs, and repair limpets essentially negate the need to dock and the average durability of the opposition will likely decline faster than the combat capabilities of those intent on shooting them down.

Just a quick question...

Do you still win if they all go to PGs or Solo?
Do you still win if they quit the game and tell all their friends not to buy?

I really have no idea.

We win no matter what they do.

If they all go to PG or Solo, we shoot each other and still have fun.

Easy-peasy.

Yes, I'm sure that's where all the self-pity here on the forum is coming from.

Considering you guys are supposed to be the "get hard bois"-squad, all we ever see from you is whining.

New flash: When the dev's are god handing local security to higher levels at the waypoint, it's not because I or any other PvPer is "whining". It's the opposite. Our efforts our resounding painfully throughout the echo chamber that is Fleetcomm, and the pitiful cry's of it's organizers are being heard (and acted upon) all the way to Frontiers main office.

Haha, sure, whatever you say.

Technically, we are *not* parasites, but simple predators taking advantage of an easy meal.

In "reality" you're nothing close to a predator, but you are free to "role play" and imagine you're anything you want to be.

In reality: You're simply a gamer in an open world game who has decided to attack other gamers not looking for a fight and minding their own business.

That's it.

You're not a predator.

You're not a hero.

But you are doing something most people consider dumb and rude.

Conversely, I'm sure a minority consider it to be awesome, just like some people consider spawn camping in an FPS awesome.

To each his own.

Feel free to choose darkness and fade into the abyss with the rest of it.

I choose light.

We're just part of the eco system, Ziggy. Nature isn't always pretty, but it is what it is. If it were not for predators, the prey animals would over run the planet and eat all of the vegetation. In fact, you guys should be thanking us. If you've ever seen a lion or a polar bear on the hunt, you know how powerful predators can be. Life may well have been troubled by these killer species since its very beginning, over 3.5 billion years ago, and they have wrought untold death and destruction. As a result they get a bad press: even the word "predator" stems from the Latin term to rob or plunder. Small wonder that, when people imagine paradise, it normally doesn't have any predators in it.

But this reputation misses something important: out of predatory destruction, constructive things can emerge. Predators may have played a big role in many of the biggest leaps forward in the history of life, from the origin of animals to the evolution of skeletons. Predation may even have helped shape the evolution of humanity itself, driving us to become ever more intelligent. Now, with that in mind, please enjoy the following video that aptly describes the relationship between explorers and PvPers:

Agreed, 100%.

There's a very relevant term; "trophic cascade".

So the last four years of constant salt about solo, clogging, logging, group, block, forum moderation and developer bias was you having fun then ?.

I always thought PK'ers were some of whiniest people in the forum. Which is quite an achievement with all the serial whingers, ragequitters and grindlords hanging around bleating.

Those powerful predators kill for only one reason: for survive. What about you? They're animals. Same question.
