There is some scary stuff I keep hearing from other explorers: bad binary jumps, neutron star issues, blowing up in your parking space due to starting the game in an object. Today, something new and terrifying:
I was in witch space and mid-jump I "crashed". I got a screen saying I had lost a server connection and <poof!> I was out of the game.
Now with all the horror stories of explorers losing all there data from various game malfunctions (and plain stupidity), I was immediately devastated. That's it. My beautiful Asp is a cloud of dust. Really, what else could happen when you come to a complete stop in hyperspace?
Apparently (and thankfully) nothing. I restarted the game and was just floating between stars...which was kinda cool...except for the heart pounding OMG NOOOOOO! moment.
Sounding the fog horn yielded nothing. I was not within a couple Ly of any star.
And no screen shots (of the incident). Sorry you'll just have to take my word. I thought 8500Ly of exploring were gone, so I had other thoughts beside screen caps. After it was over I did take some nice shots floating in REALL Deep space:
