Putting bounty on real player who have killed you

It would be nice, if you could put a bounty with your in game money on other players who killed you. The amount would be of the players choosing. If I like to have this person killed for 500 million it should be possible.

Some people like me are traders. What do we have? Money. What can we get quite fast? Money.

Most time it is possible to flee, but sometimes when you fly quite long distances and you have to go to the door because somebody is there and you come back and you are dead, it can be frustrating. Yes I could quit the game but be honest if you have to fly 400k lightyears, would you go offline or would you just put in supercruise?

It would be fair to get the people back with the thing you are good at. When you are a trader you are good at getting money. If you are a fighter you are good at combat. It is unfair to tell a trader to fight against a "professional" fighter.

The best thing, it is a winwinwin scenario. You give people money who like to fight and they fight people who also like to fight and the trader gamer can lessen his frustration a little with money.

A winwinwin scenario indeed - especially for the friends of those who you put that 500 million bounty on.

500 million is quite much yes... but you could also implement, that the person has to lose that much money until the point that he can only get his ship back... with this it would not be so good ;)

More than that, I would love to have a "mercenary/bounty hunter" interstellar board for us to request another player's punishment. The kind where, having enough money, I could hire five or six elite mercs in a wing to hunt down some guy and put him in jail for a week. (Note that it's not a simple kill, but a lengthy punishment)
Requisites would be the number of times killed by that specific guy.
The added jewel would be having a pursuit camera to watch and record his demise.

Say you put a 500 million bounty on CMDR Doofus. Is that money removed from your account immediately or only after CMDR Doofus gets shot down? Does the money go straight into the account of the bounty hunter or does it arrive as a voucher which has to be claimed at a station? If an NPC kills CMDR Doofus, does that remove the bounty you put on their head?

After CMDR Doofus is shot down and their bounty is cleared, can you put ANOTHER bounty on their head?

Can you only put a bounty on the last person to have killed you or can you do this to anyone who has ever killed you at any point in time?

How is this different from, or better than, just allowing credit transfers between CMDRs?

As long as the punishment is done by NPC's, I don't think the mechanics could be exploited.
Bounties would be active after the CMDR's ship destruction, and payable at any station with the specific factor (merc/bounty hunter service)
Maybe even allow multiple kills, with xx credits for kill against the same player for a week. (Ganking a ganker? XD)
And, if you didn't pay your bounty requests, the mercs would come after you for sweet revenge.

All that would do is gift credits to the Gankers. As soon as you put a 500 million bounty on them, they would get one of their gang to blow them up for the bounty, then they'd come after you again for another 500 mil. If you want to get real revenge, get yourself a Sidewinder with enhanced drives engineered to level 5. Add an FSD interdictor then go an get them. Keep interdicting them continuously and run away each time until they cry. The only thing they can do is block you, then you're free from them.

How the gameplay is implemented is not up to me and I have not thought to every detail of course.
I would say the money is taken from your account immediately and the bounty is valid for e.g. 1 month. If the person is not killed, the bounty will be removed and you get your money back. If an NPC killed the Player the money is also gone.
You could put bounty on a person e.g. that killed you until a week ago (enough time to get money if you don't have money... especially for newbies interesting).

If you want to play an outlaw it is totally fine. You can kill as many Players as you want. But there has to be a possibility for a non fighter to get you back. Like in real live, when you kill someone you will be punished if they catch you and they will search for you.

If you go into a station the station tells other player where you are. Maybe with a little delay depending on your overall bounty.

But of course you have to think it through if you want to implement it in the game. But I think it will be much fairer and less frustrating for non fighters. The playerkiller wants to have fights with real people, so he will get it. Yes most search for easy targets, but especially in this case it should be possible to outlaw this person.

It is a possibility to lower the frustration level for non combat players and in the same time get people who like to fight against unknown players against each other.

Against credit transfers you have to put measurements of course. Maybe limit the maximum bounty depending on the ship and its costs which was destroyed. Maybe a factor of 2 at max would be ok if you also count the cargo value. So it would be a little annoying to transfer money especially because you will lose quite some credits with every transfer.

for piracy (not destroying you) and only snatching your stuff, you don't need to put a bounty on them or maybe only at max a 1:1 bounty of the stolen goods...

To me it would be like this:
  • you got killed by a player (condition #1)
  • you visit interstellar bounty contract
  • you type in CMDRs name, pick reason, set amount of Cr as a bounty
  • upon confirming the contract set amount of Cr is taken from you
Your involvement is now done.

  • game creates a Bounty for given CMDR, for stated amount of Cr
  • other CMDR kills bounty target, get bounty token
  • he then goes to bounty interstellar contract to redeem it
  • he gets the Credits, minus handling fee (let's say 15%)
Exploit.
I want to help friendly CMDR with money transfer. I arrange wing mate and let him kill me. Then I set high bounty. My friendly CMDR then takes the bounty and kills wing mate as he doesn't fight back, sitting in a Sidewinder. Friendly CMDR gets heaps of Credits.

Player set bounties are cool but this system would be exploited beyond recognition the moment it is implemented.

If you also implement, that the Playerkiller loses money as large as the bounty until he can only get his ship back, maybe with a minus of 10% so that he cannot get his actual combat ship back as it was and has to do money work before...

I agree that traders should be able to use their money to protect themselves. But cmdr bounties as awesome as it would be , just begs for exploitation.
Player driven economy where they could trade with each other would be necessary to empower traders.
I think to make this sort of thing work you'd have to sort out the code, the instancing, and go open only and burn solo and of modes. Which is unlikely

The answer to that are hireable mercenaries. And if you pay real big you could get up to 3 Elite NPC escorts in lean mean G5 engineered fighting machines. That would elevate an attempt to gank you to wing assassination level of difficulty or even higher. Still wouldn't prevent a ganking ship with high alpha damage to make a beeline towards you and getting the kill in before either running or getting destryoed.

What if the gankers hire 3 Elite NPCs too?

I suppose one way would be to limit the ability of someone to place a bounty so it could only applied at the rebuy screen and only on the player who killed you. I'm sure this still leaves some big gaps to make this completely workable though.

Maybe also add that you couldn't exceed a certain multipler of your ship value to stop people letting themselves get killed over and over again in a Sidewinder.

True enough, but that at least singificantly increases the gank costs. There's never a total solution to be had. I just stated a more feasible and less exploitable way for traders to use their money to protect themselves.

Would be abused in seconds. Brand-new seconds old commanders with a billion credits in their bank rolls to buy fleets of Anacondas all for shooting a shieldless sidewinder with a billion credit bounty.

And then comes the endless wave of spammy credit-selling scum, along with a non-stop barrage of “I was hacked” threads and stolen accounts. No thanks.

Let’s not float Elite in the same toilet water as so many other games.

Agreed, so cap the bounty at 499mil, done.
