PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

Sorry I don't want to die by pirate pilots with Anacondas and Pythons every minute or two...

And why would that happen?

I've been playing open since Gamma and I've met... let me see... one human pirate who challenged me. And even though he was in an Anaconda he wasn't a very good pilot as he died quite quickly.

Open isn't the grief-fest that some people are declaring so loudly. All the over humans I've seen have been friendly, a flash of the lights and maybe a wing-waggle to say Hello and that's it.

The only problem is people who can't let this poor dead horse rest in peace. (or pieces, considering how often it has been flogged...)

Just wondering, did anyone from FD ever issued an official response about this? It should have made the FAQ by now.

Uuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa should be the official response.

*EDIT* Just nevermind.

Uuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is the appropriate response.

LOL I was going to respond to your original post. I was definitely confused until I refreshed the page. :)

The thing is, maybe you or I and others agree with them, at least I would have preferred that everyone plays in the same sandbox, without a solo mode.

But that is irrelevant, they aren't going to change it. Sooo

Uuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is the appropriate response.

Perhaps some of you should read what the guy said.

Though he mentions the solo/open thing his main thrust is about having safe and unsafe areas.

This is something that surprised me through beta, that the starting systems were as or more dangerous than the outlying systems. Whether it splits the player-base I don't know but it's an issue worth discussing rather than going "urgh" at.

I should note that I didn't see the message before Yaffle mod-edited it.

The universe is pretty empty and so many playing solo is a huge part of that. Now I understand the reason for cthat but FD took the easy way out to protect the inexperienced . It would have been far better if core systems would be well guarded by police and military to make pirate attacks exceedingly rare there while making the frontier outer space indeed just that: A frontier region where anything goes.

In some online games, people stay for years in the safe areas and still have fun (and let's face it: in Elite it doesn't matter so far whether you're in Sol or in Zaonce: The graphics and game play mechanics are the same).

Safe areas and dangerous frontier areas should have incentives: Trading is safe in the core, while there are more minerals to mine (untouched ressources) and bounty to hunt in the frontier areas. Thus there is incentive to want to reach both areas.

So instead of a safe space for beginners and inexperienced , Frontier went the very lazy route to split the players apart as much as possible due the heavy instancing, seamless switching between open and multi, ban-lists and blocking. The effort to keep the players apart is way too much overdone and empties the game to ridiculous extends. I mean at best you have 5-6 players in Sol and Achernar at the same time. That's pretty laughable for the hearts of two "space empires".

Calculating how many different posts about open vs solo can be used to beat the same dead horse before they stop. Obviously INFINITE...:(

It wasn't an attempt to "PROTECT" the inexperienced...get it? It is a play style that the game offers in addition to the open universe.

How many times does it have to be said that if you force the players who currently play solo(because they choose and prefer to...get it?) in the open universe they will leave the game.

And personally I find the term "CAREBEAR" offensive.

The same reason why aquariums with 100 fish are more interesting to look at than with 1. Killing them is the least reason, really. If Frontier would add even some smallish social feature, like trading between players and cooperatoive mining, then the more people play the far more useful those features are gonna get.

But for this, FD needs to do something now, because if the culture in this game establishes to be "carebear solo only", then all hope for future progressions in these areas are lost.

"Gonks" can be disabled by massive police and military in core sectors (maybe even anti-interdiction devices in core-core areas around Sol and Achernar). See: There are lots of ways to achieve protection against gonks in an organical in-game manner. What Frontier did was taking the lazy way by adding pretty much a god-mode for traders (seamless solo/multi switching AND banlists?! AND heavy instancing?) It's like buying tons of candy at the supermarket to squelch the children instead of finding a better way to calm them.

I just like the word gonk for some reason lol

I agree, would be more interesting with more people to interact with. We need ways of interacting with them though.

I can only imagine the instances, open play, solo play are how they are to save money on servers. I'm sure a PvE open play and PvP open play would be a better way to do things. but that would mean 2 servers rather than 1.

That's simply the way ED is, you could potentially get interdicted by an Elite NPC Anaconda on your first SC jump if the gods of RNG are angry at you.
The concept of "starter areas" and level appropriate content simply does not exist. As my sig says, it's simply the way the game is.

so basically what it has come down to is, this should have been only multiplayer, or this should have been only single player, well this is going to go on forever.

it is kinda funny though, they didn't want the game to feel like you NEED to join a Clan and yet, thats what private groups already are.

so far i don't think this game knows where its going. blind fold initiated full power ahead.

Personally I'd like the thematic differences knowing I'll encounter more humans rather than AI. However, while it's all well and good your idea of protected systems, that still means there will be places they won't be able to go to without fear of being attacked by a player. That fear alone, even though it's vastly exagerated, means it makes business sense to give these players the freedom to play how they wish.

Not really. Frontier took the decision at the inception of the game to allow players to choose to play solo, in private groups with friends or in open. This freedom of choice is, I understand, bewildering to some who have come from games where progress is locked in to each game mode. Frontier dared to be different and over 25,000 backers chose to share the dream - now, over two years later, we have the game and the promise of future development.

Given the community reaction to the removal (whether temporary or permanent) of the offline mode, I just cannot see Frontier removing any of the three online modes that were promised from the very beginning of the Kickstarter.

The reason this issue gets so much attention hummmmmmm let me think for a second...... BECAUSE ITS IMPORTANT. and its true ED did make every possible attemp to separate the player base even tho they gave us 400 billion stars and 100,000 solar systems? what does that say to what they think of their fan base? lol let me say it for them.... "We At ED dont feel our customers are smart enough to be able to get away from all the griefing "that dosnt even happen" very often" . so here..have and easy way to play and enjoy the game. while we ruin what was to be an EVE killer sorta game.

ED had the possibility to put EVE online out of business but they messed that all up with current systems in place, i guess it will be the job of Star Citizen to kill EVE, hopfully they dont mess it up like ED did,

Im still enjoying ED atm and its fun for me, Jst saying is all.

Where did you get the information that FD "created solo to protect inexperienced and new players"? The game is vast: 400 million star systems. Even if FD was to remove solo, and add 10million players, you wouldn't notice unless they dumped them in a single star system. Outer space, especially as FD has designed ED, is vast.

The same 10 people making this thread over and over again doesnt mean its getting a lot of attention or that its important.

Thats Great, it sounds like you want to play a nice easy safe game. Perhaps Elite Dangerous is not for you, perhaps you should play something nice and safe like minecraft or Candy Crush instead.
