PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

OH God, not again.

Yes, the majority of ED players know the discontented minority are raging against something they can't change. I get it 5x5, message recieved and understood, you are coming in loud and clear, we hear you, your smoke signals have been seen, your cave paintings have been discovered, the time capsule is found, your pigeon just arrived.....enough, just enough.

Never heard of the game befor a month or two ago, never seen that crap on kickstarter, and imo not putting everyone in more than one "world" is stupid, and boring and well a bad business decision.

Now there's the problem, didn't do any research, didn't read the forums, just buy the game. Decide there are bits you don't like so shout for it to be changed.

This stuff was all agreed between FD and the kickstarters who paid to be part of the DDF, they ain't gonna change it now.

How many people are actually playing solo vs Open play? Do we have numbers for this?

Be interesting to see numbers, I play group pretty much exclusively and even with only 2000 commanders in it I normally see a few each session, without even trying to find them.

Your argument about an empty universe doesn't apply to me. I play in Mobius's Private PVE group.

Someone recommended a PVP group, go make one of those and all the PVP folks can join there. Since there are apparently thousands of you the universe will be populated with other folks wanting PVP.

Then why not just have an OPEN PvE mode and OPEN PvP mode instead? If so many people want PvE, why didn't FD make it? Plus this would help the PvPers come together than the counter-intuitive Grouping system which could end up creating many small groups instead of just one giant PvP universes like they really want.

I thought you were a multiplayer game dev?

Hes whatever the current argument calls for. Isnt the internet fun?

Right now, Im the pope and I absolve you all of your sin of abusing this poor, poor, dead horse, provided you leave him the heck alone from here on out.

I think the people that talk about choice are pretty much spot on, however the pirates would always choose to play with players, and the traders will always choose to play with nobody. The reasons for this are pretty broad but some are also pretty simple.

Players are the only group that consistently carry high value cargo, I've only seen a trader drop palladium once (only 5) and never seen anything above 3k/tonne since. Some of the traders make 3k/tonne just selling the stuff, you also have to incredibly slowly, scoop each individual piece into your hold, then go black market it for half of what it was originally worth.

Economics aside that basically means the only way for a pirate to make any sort of money currently is to take it off a trader, which means his "choice" is directly influenced by what the traders choose. This knocks on to the bounty hunters, who never have a considerable bounty to hunt because there aren't any pirates.

I'd also like to point out this isn't the traders fault, and half of these problems are caused by game mechanics not anybody involved either, I mean bounty wiping is moronic as is the idea that smuggled goods are half value.

Tl:dr Your choice affects their choice, traders gain by playing solo, bounty hunters and pirates lose out by playing solo.

Elite dangerouse is a great game for what it is just saying it would make for much interesting game play if there was no "offline, i dont want to be shot at" mentality of ppl or option for that at all.

Sounds like a good action for FD to take but having Private groups means someone is responsible for the group. Like the PVE group I am in if you violate the charter you are kicked out by the group owner. If FD wants to put someone in charge of the groups like this it should work.

For now just do what the PVE folks did and come to a concensus on a group. We've got almost 2000 folks in ours.

You might be new here, this debate has been hashed and rehashed over months. The uuughh and other comments you mention are just a result of being fed up with beating this same dead horse again, and again, and again, and again, and the failure of reason and logic to penetrate the skulls of the pew pewers.

Except it's not that debate. People have taken one look at the OP and decided it is.

The guy said that it's empty because of solo, sure. And I think it was a poor opening because it caused the knee-jerk reaction. But what it was really about was how to structure the game/galaxy in such a way that less people decide to play solo. Whether you agree with his ideas or not is your choice but it's not the old 'open and solo should be separate' debate that most people seem to think it is.

First time I've used the "ignore user" feature on this site. The amount of whine coming through daily is astounding.....I'm starting to get turned off the forums....

Piece of advice for those that don't like the game - don't post if you have nothing constructive to say - if you do, drop your post on the gameplay suggestions forum. If you don't, simple. Reach for the ctrl panel, programs and features, elite:dangerous>uninstall and be happy once more.

But no, you won't. Either trolling or addicted to being a muppet.

Adios Boringnick.

Such an irritating topic that gets repeated constantly by people who didn't do any research into what this game is. There is no point in forcing people to play in a universe that they don't want to. They won't help you, they won't be a challenge, they won't add anything except an extra hollow square occationally when super cruising. There are so many solar systems just in inhabited space, that it's entirely possible to fly for hours without seeing anyone. It's the same way in EVE and in it everyone plays in the same universe. The only thing that forcing people into online will do is alienate the people who want to play solo.
I used to think that making people choose one or the other or just having online was the best idea but then I realized that this game isn't a competition, other players don't interfere with your "progress" any more than npcs do, there are no corporations or player factions, etc. It's basically a single player game where random people happen to be real sometimes.
